Is it possible to have more than 6 party members?

As the post title suggests, is it possible to have more than 6 party members? I'm reaching the stage where I don't want to choose one NPC at the expense of another!

I'm playing through BG1 using BGT at the moment.

I assume you're referring to BG2, and the answer, as I've read quite often around the different forums, is no, you cannot have more than 6 party members, it's hard coded into the game.

Don't hesitate to use the "search" function, I'm sure it could've turned up your answer in a jiffy. ^_^

Yes, it is hard coded limited to 6. Hard coded like the maximum of 100 songs, the limited number of kits, the maximum number of selectable spell and being unable to add more animations to the game. :whistling:

I hate to think of all the things that would break if the party size were expanded past 6. Scripts that would no longer work, cutscene area transitions with a party member or two left behind. It's a can of worms.

Well, the maximum number of kits and songlist(song list twice, second is the Taimon's) has already been broken as is the creature animations... maximum displayed spell, display size. A lot has gone around lately.

The reason why the party member has not been is the inner workings of a lot of things, like scripts that only check and work for 6 party members, xp distribution... but you can have a member that doesn't have those, and it can still level up etc.

One of the reasons nobody sees those is that they have been done just recently, and so some of those have been in works for years, so for example the Kits can't be all installed without editing the setup-*.tp2 files etc. While the creature animation list and mod is not complete yet so long it could be installed within BWS so every monster would have proper animation, as there is still a lot of work to be done to verify all the data.

It is complete as far as megamod animations are concerned - check the latest version here (uploaded yesterday).

You can sort of have more than 6 party members via scripting (check mods like Haiass). They don't appear in the hardcoded display that shows only 6 characters, but they follow you around, fight for you, can talk to you if you like - thus for all practical purposes are additional NPCs in your party.

Yes, I know that all the Hard Coded examples that I gave have been over come. :wacko: My point is that they were thought as being something unworkable!
