Well, hehe, the end has come, it CTDs in the final.. end boss Ascension fight, once combat starts it crashes reliably, with "standard" options selected. I set everything but video and logging to zero. Now it reliably crashes even earlier during opening dialog, then the.. end boss is making his or hers animation pushing the party away and the log file sadly doesnt say much too. Works ok w/o tobex.

It was a unique feature of earlier Tobex versions. Not present in vanilla bg2. I thought you "fixed" vanilla bg2, so people can now select one HLA multiple times if they advance multiple levels at once. Im not sure how to qualify its absence now.

No, earlier TobEx versions were 'bugged', so the fact that it works like vanilla BG2 means that I fixed the bug.

Alas, I cannot reproduce this one. I will need the Windows error log from Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Event Viewer

Also, did you ever post your WeiDU.log?

ok following. I have narrowed it down a bit. The "early" crash happens then Apply Effect Item fix=1. "TheBoss" casts a spell, makes a 360-turn and game crashes. Dialog choices 1,1,1 (or any number really), then it happens.


The combat crash doesnt happen immediately, only after something happens. In fact, i can avoid it entirely by repeatedly hitting the spacebar, pause/unpause for a couple of rounds. Might be some cache overflow or something.


Enabling the two beta settings, gave me a nice 6MB log xD, and a "combat" crash with a Assertion failure message, idk if its relevant but i attach it.


Event Viewer doesnt have anything of value. The last todays entries (all 5 of them) are like 3 hours old, bluecolored, and all from the starting time.

I wonder whether something in Ascension is conflicting with TobEx here, since I can't reproduce it no matter how many times I kill Melissan (with Ctrl-R cheating, of course...).

In Event Viewer, you would need to go to the Windows Logs->Application (or similar) section and filter the log to show only Error. Anyway, depending on the where it crashes, it might not actually help me at all.

For the Assertion Failed error, guess what? Disable Use Animation Percentages for Throwing Weapons. Oh, did I say that earlier? I bet it's Jan again. But I don't think that is actually the problem you are having above.

The 'Externalise Animation Walking Sounds' component seems to be working only with the default animations and not those added with Infinity Animations mod. Is this intended? Can it be changed?

Well, that is because you will need a mod to extend AniWkSnd.2da to include the anim id of all your new animations. The TobEx AniWkSnd.2da only includes animations of vanilla ToB. Take a look at TobEx_ini.txt to determine how you the 2DA works.

So let's say you want 0x500E BUGBEAR to walk using terrain sounds.
APPEND ~aniwksnd.2da~ ~0x500E BUGBEAR TERRAIN *~ UNLESS ~0x500E~

OK, you want dragon sounds for it instead.
APPEND ~aniwksnd.2da~ ~0x500E BUGBEAR WAL_09 4~ UNLESS ~0x500E~

No you don't like that. You want your own custom sound (a group of 6, BUGBEA, BUGBEAa, BUGBEAb, BUGBEAc, BUGBEAd, BUGBEAe) instead.
APPEND ~aniwksnd.2da~ ~0x500E BUGBEAR BUGBEA 6~ UNLESS ~0x500E~

I already knew that and done that, but no matter what I type there I always end up with the dragon sounds. I'm trying to make it work for my pack mule mini-mod.

It would be fantastic if any of the TobEx functionality could be ported to Mac OS X (but I know it would have to be implemented in a way other than patching the .exe, as there's no .exe on the Mac side). Just sayin' ;)

I think that GemRB is near the point where it is recreationally playable, and it implements (or will implement) all ToBEx additions. If you can't wait, ditch that Fisher Price overpaid paperweight and get a real PC.

It just wouldn't work. What I've implemented is platform-specific (doh!). It is not even a standalone program. I don't have a Mac, and I don't know how to program for one. Sorry.

It just wouldn't work. What I've implemented is platform-specific (doh!). It is not even a standalone program. I don't have a Mac, and I don't know how to program for one. Sorry.


I wouldn't call it programming per se...and I don't see that modding involves any real programming. My suspicion is that we can't modify the app itself in any way...although there's the case of "Baldur's Gate II Level 1," which then suggests to me that some sort of similar method to making that work (it does work, btw) might be the answer.

I know that I once installed TobEx in my main BGII installation, just for the scrollable kit lists, and that component functioned as it should, but I've since been unable to duplicate that success.

Anyway, perhaps it's just a pipe dream...

You could acquire a Windows version of bgmain.exe, install ToBEx on top of it, and run it via whatever port of Wine is available on Macs. Other than that, it could be or not be possible to disassemble the Mac version of BGII and use whatever tools are needed to install the ToBEx stuff on it (either by finding an equivalent of detours.dll and compiling ToBEx against that, or by adding lots of space to the bottom of the standard executable and adding ToBEx's machine code there). Definetively not something for somebody who is not familiar with the details of BSD/OSX programming, ASM and other similar topics.

Har dee har :) If there's one thing I consider a drawback to my machine, it's that it doesn't have an Intel processor. Wow, stating that still feels wrong to me. Hard to adjust my thinking to consider that Intel is no longer the enemy ;) Still, Mac is a viable platform, and the #1 choice for audio and visual professionals. As for GemRB, I doubt I'd be able to use it, based on what I've seen about it, but I'll read over it again.

Wine doesn't run on pre-Intel Macs.
