After killing Cirion and co I went to speak to Aran again to enlist his help. However, I get the dialogue from the end of chapter 3 instead and end up back in Brynnlaw. I'm not sure if this due to Fade because I'm running several games in various stages of completion and it's become heavily modded. So, do I need to speak to Aran again at any point regarding Fade or can I just forget about him for the rest of the game?

Okay, figured out why it was crashing: I'd forgotten to run it in compatibility mode as it really dislikes Windows 7
