Were they out of names? Ideas? Or is the setting of Mass Effect closer to Ferelden than we thought?

P.S. In Russian we call God Maker(Создатель) - including prayers and classic literature, such as Griboedov's famous play, and it's probably true for quite a few other languages.

I can't say I'm shocked or surprised, though. I mean, like WeeR said, what else are you going to call the higher power, right?

Hmm, this might not so be so much a general observation as a discovery of an oversight - apparantly the PC can "sense" darkspawn before they actually are made Grey Wardens with some soundsets. Quite easy to see how this got overlooked, the inconsistency is subject to the engine's design after all.
Of course, it could also be the said PC I witnessedSpoilerwas channeling Alistair. Whichever works.
What? Link! Now, slave! Now!
Er, what I mean to say is...
I have never gotten anything of that sort during my 4 playthroughs, that is, sensing the darkspawn. To me it seems to be an non-implemented storyline 'ability'. o_o

That's odd... I've done two and a half (the third was interrupted by the release of DAO) playthroughs of Mass Effect, and I don't remember a scene in which they speak of the Maker... When is this, do you remember? I think I must've totally missed it.
I can't say I'm shocked or surprised, though. I mean, like WeeR said, what else are you going to call the higher power, right?
I want to say it was on
Well, as for a name, in FR they had a ton of names for their higher powers...I'm a bit surprised they stuck with "Maker" when they were trying to create this whole original setting. Of course, it's possible that ME was written after DA was and it was ME that actually ripped it off. Too many employees in the breakroom talking about the same thing I suppose.
Well, this is not the only thing that DA: O and ME share imo ;-)
I heard rumors they were made by the same company....I don't know though...probably just talk.

Time out everybody. They are doing cross-advertising between DA and ME2 in the form of shared DLC items, so it's semi-obvious that they'll drop in hints of world continuity between the two to make it lore-relevant.
It's funny how your thoughts were that they *wanted* to make it lore relevant. Here I thought they were just dumb and their writers didn't bother to cross reference.

By the time your character, Alistair, or anybody else sense darkspawn, everybody else in the party can see them, too. You or Alistair will say something like "Darkspawn!" right before the combat auto-pause. If you pick one of the soundsets, forget which one, your character will say "My Warden senses are tingling."I have never gotten anything of that sort during my 4 playthroughs, that is, sensing the darkspawn. To me it seems to be an non-implemented storyline 'ability'. o_o
I think it's just a reason that Alistair got sent with you to the Korcari Wilds. And the reason for your dreams, too, of course.

I believe it's either the "wise" or the "experienced" soundset. Not sure though. If you pick one of the soundsets, forget which one, your character will say "My Warden senses are tingling."

Oh, right, I don't use autopause, for me the start of combat is usually a mess of this and that and fireballs going off. x]
And, eh, that sounds terribly lame, I was always a little disappointed that it (the 'warden sense') hadn't been implemented, and now that I find that it was, well, I'm no happier. xP

Zar, just a little bit after the 4th minute you'll hear quite clearly the sensing, though, it was actually quite obvious where the muddy fellows were hiding. What? Link! Now, slave! Now!
I agree that overall the whole "sensing" business is indeed a little irrelevant, you either see them as Berelinde pointed out, or alternatively the game puts you immediately in combat mode - a nice yellow circle included in case the weapons weren't shiny enough.
Now if they had decided to use it as a sort of evolving ability, passive or active, that's where becoming a Warden would be a little more interesting in terms of gameplay - might even make for less of those miss weak genlock minion 50 times over, sure it's not Icewind Dale 2 bad but...

... On the other hand, by that point in the game, the PC isn't a Grey Warden yet and thus incapable of sensing darkspawn. In theory.
