A question to all more experienced BG gamers out there. With an objective of gaining the most possible quests, do the most possible tasks AND have the best experience in a huge megamod installl, wich multiclass would you rather play?

Suggestions?

Well, if it's just the experience, then the Fighter/Mage/Thieve is the obvious choice as you gain a few XP from disabling stuff... but you'll be lacking in shear healing power a bit especially at the early levels as you do not have regeneration... and level etc. drains really take a hard hand on you.

I mean the experience, not as in experience points, but like, a good, rewarding, playing experience...

Well, at least the BG2 part is a lot more play-able with the Fighter/Mage/Thief, as the traps can be a killers, and as said the few rings of regeneration really pump you full of hit points so you do not need the healing that bad...
I have never played the game without some kind of party, and with a party, a tripple multi class just isn't worth all the sweat, so my experience is a bit limited... but backstabbing someone in Time Stop might be a good solution to most of the difficult fights... but the Harm can do the same. Yes, that's cheese.

I would probably rather play F/M/C because I think thieves are just the weakest class in the game. With F/M/C you can use Find Traps to find and avoid the traps, and if you have to go over them, there's lots of buffs from the mage side that can prevent it from doing anything. Having more spells is fun.

Thieves are not the weakest class in the game if you know how to play them. And they're not weak at all when combined with a fighter. A F/M/C can't pick pockets or steal that easily, but a F/M/T can heal pretty easily with potions, temples, etc. Potions might cost money, but that's where a thief comes in handy (you can either steal them or the money it takes to purchase). Plus, F/M/Cs are restricted from a load of weapons unless you install some sort of cheat.

How condescending. Obviously I must have no idea how to play thieves if I think they're weak, because you are the divine authority on game balance. Get stuffed. Besides, pickpocketing and stealing have nothing whatsoever to do with combat, even if those nice extras justify having a thief in your party. And no class is weak when combined with a fighter, though I'll grant you that the difference that I see in power between cleric and thief is lessened when they are combined with fighter.

Clerics' weapon restrictions are annoying but there's good blunt weapons in both games (incl. crom faeyr) so at least from a power point of view, it's not much of a handicap.

However, in regards to the first post, a F/M/T might be preferable if you want to do the absolute most quests/tasks due to the thief-specific skills.

Two words - Reaver Kit

Or probably not :P considering the overpoweredness and the bugs ^_^ (the fix is there itself btw ;))

Cheers,

How mature. Telling people to get stuffed just because they have their own opinions and might like to play a *game* a bit differently than you. Not that I was responding to you specifically anyhow, but rather the original post (though I considered your comments in the response as well). And we're actually on the same page there, because you've admitted it too:

No one said they did, and the OP didn't ask about combat (and I didn't even mention backstabbing either, though Jarno did).

Well, since the first sentence was directly towards my post and there wasn't a paragraph, I assumed the rest of the post was too. As that assumption sucked, you may stuff me if you wish.

I don't know if we're exactly on the same page....I mean, if it's a solo game or there's no thief in the party, then my previous comment applies: go with F/M/T. But even if you just have Nalia (in BG2), you can pack her full of thievery/mastery/perception potions to get all those thief-skills when necessary (steal, sell, repeat at mae'var's guild), then there's 5 or 6 thieves in BG1 to choose from, then it comes down really to whether you prefer backstabbing (and later on, traps if you use) to cleric spells which you can cast in armour. In which case, F/M/C for me definitely since I think it's stronger, more fun and versatile.
