Usually when I play IE games I've pretty much just used quick save+auto-save. I do some extra saves now and then, but quick and auto is the main thing. Now for a mega mod, presumably there's a lot more things that can break, right? Right now I have a Standard installation of BWP. Are there any particular points I should save at, or does anyone have any recommendations for when to create extra save games in general?

If I uninstall a mod because it's broken or causes problems - how would that affect my saves?

Well, the Standard install should be quite bug free in itself, but I would suggest you to make a save at every area, and have about 10 or so of them, so when you enter to the 11th area and you haven't ran into an error, you can remove the first save and save to a new slot.

If I uninstall a mod because it's broken or causes problems - how would that affect my saves?

You probably have to start a new game, and with BWS based game, you'll probably need to reinstall everything. This is cause you mods have already been biffed, and so they can't really be uninstalled anymore. So it's might actually be better to install a new component that removes the specific behaviour, than uninstall anything.

My advice  : always save (in a new file) BEFORE entering a new area.

always save (in a new file) BEFORE entering a new area.

+1 :new_thumbs: That would be the BEST advice to avoid many problems :D (I know autosaves do just that, but it only saves for MAJOR areas, not the house ground floor -> first floor transitions :P)

Other than that:
  • BEFORE resting (to avoid getting owned by one of the BGSpawn rest-mobs :D)
  • AFTER any huge fight ... if you survive  (to prevent getting owned by ANOTHER huge fight ... trust me, there are some ... maybe in the BWP-Tactics install, but there are :D
Cheers,
Lol

This is cause you mods have already been biffed, and so they can't really be uninstalled anymore.

 Generalized Biffing can be uninstalled and reinstalled like any other mod. Of course, the various mods that use AT_EXIT ~weidu --make-biff~ rather than MAKE_BIFF cannot be uninstalled that easily (all the big BG1 and BG2 mods for instance).
