I've been having a hell of a time trying to install mods to my game (SoA only). I've run into a bunch of problems ranging from looping WeiDU exe's, to various bugs (extreme lags to minor cosmetic glitches). I've dealt with CTD's, game skips and lock ups. I've had to do a number of clean installs (the copy and paste kind), removal of several mods that I deemed I could live without, and alterations to my installation order. Finally, with the help of the BiG World Project Manual, these wonderful forums, and gracious modders, I thought I had finally gotten everything right... I started a new game, and everything seemed to be running flawlessly, except for one minor glitch where a few NPC's were listing their class type where their race should be on their stat screen. I deemed that I could live with that and decided to keep playing (although, if anyone knows what causes this I'd love to know). Then I started noticing some peculiar behavior. The first thing I noticed was that some items were duplicating themselves in enemy inventories. In Irenicus's dungeon, the duergar all had two battle axes, and many of the goblins had two of the same gem for treasure. Nothing major, was going to overlook this as well. Then, I had my first lock-up when fighting Amalas in the Copper Coronet. It occurred when I tried to use my NE Drow Assassin's Vampiric Touch Bhaal-spawn power. I pulled out of the game, reloaded, went to fight the cocky s.o.b. once again, and wouldn't you know it, as soon as I tried using the same BS power it locked up again. I should note that I had used this ability a few times while escaping the first dungeon and it worked just fine. I'm happy to say after a third reload I killed the big blustering oaf without the use of Vampiric Touch (being an Assassin has it's perks). Anyway, soon after this I ran into the fellas from Dungeon Crawl and they asked me to look for a man named Grudin (if I'm remembering his name correctly). I went on a walk about and found him alright. I found him and his twin brother who just happened to share the same name... he was surrounded by members of a mercenary group (Shadow Pack) who all seemed to have their twins along for the ride too. 4 members of the Shadow Pack got into an argument with one of the Grudins and killed him, while all of their twins just stood there and did nothing but look around. After the 4 who seemed to be a part of the disagreement fled, the invalid look-a-likes continued to stand around like nothing happened. So, being a semi-social member of the dark race I approached them and tried to start up some smalltalk, only to find out that they had nothing to say to me. I figured they were just a bunch of rudie-toodies anyway and headed back to the Coronet to put in a report with the DC boys and have me a stiff drink. Not long after I found myself being talked into helping these 4 track down the Shadow Pack in the Dock's District to try and put a stop to their madness. I showed up to the rumble grounds, and holy-tearing-fright, everybody came to the row with a twin... Before anybody noticed me, I saved, exported my character, and shut the game down.

Has anybody out there had this problem before (the game generating two of anything from items to characters)? Is this possible to fix without having to completely reinstall the game? If a reinstall is called for, will I be able to use my exported character on a new game after reinstalling all the same mods plus a few new tweaks and mini-mods (maybe an NPC or two - I'd like to install Unique Containers, at the very least)? How about playing my saved game after said reinstall? Also, does anyone have any idea as to what could be causing the lock-ups in the Copper Coronet? Finally, why are some of the NPC's showing their class where their race should be on their character stat page?

I have a theory on why some items and characters are duplicating in my game. I remembered that I had biffed my files at the end of the install before this "final" one. I tried to uninstall the biff before doing a clean install, but wasn't sure that it worked (it didn't seem to take 1/100 of the time it took to biff... I used option 1 of end_biff). I figured it said it had uninstalled successfully so it must be true. So I continued with my quick reinstall, and began to reinstall the mods. I quickly realized that the data streams were saying all sorts of strange things while trying to install the bg2 fixpack and jumped to close out the window. I had forgotten to delete my old WeiDU file. After deleting it, the installation process went smoothly. My theory is that since biffing moves things from your override into your data folder (I think that's right... right?), and I had done a quick reinstall as opposed to a full reinstall that somehow some, or most, or all of the data got duplicated during my "final" reinstall in some way that is shining on through into the game itself... I don't know a lick about codes, file types, or anything of that nature, and what I just proposed as a theory might not make any sense at all... just figured I'd share in case I might be on to something... for all I know this info may help someone figure out why these problems occurred in my game.

I hope this helps instead of making anyone's head spin. I'm going to include my install order from my last ("final") install in hopes that it helps with finding answers to my questions. The only difference between the below list, and the one prior to this install order is that 1pp v2.70 was installed after the G3 fixpack as opposed to just after Aurora's shoes and boots. A thousand advanced thank you's to anyone taking the time to read this and post some suggestions.

Wait ... so you uninstalled your 'End Biff', and did a reinstall?? It's always best to use a clean install of BGII-ToB to reinstall anything that's been biffed. Your theory on the things sound right though  Maybe cause some mods that append to scripts to create those encounters appended twice when you reinstalled since you closed the window directly?? Your problem doesn't seem fixable though.

While I dunno anything much your problem, your WeiDU.log seems kinda off the recommended BiG World Project Install order. Have you given the BWP a try?? The BWSetup just got updated to 8.2 and should make all your modding problems go goodbye :P

I'd suggest deleting your entire BGII-SoA folder, reinstalling BGII-ToB and using the BWS to get your dream modded game set up :P

Download and run

Cheers,
Lol

Well, I thank you for your response, but I don't have ToB... I'm running a SoA only game. I've never owned a copy of ToB, and therefore have never played it. I'd love to use the BWS. I tried using it but for some reason it wouldn't work. I don't know if this has anything to do with the fact that I don't have ToB installed or whether it has something to do with the fact the I'm using Windows Vista (I believe I've heard that this version of Windows has some compatibility issues with a lot of gaming gear). I'm wondering if what I need is a copy of a vanilla data folder for my BG2 directory... would this help me get rid of the biffed data so that I could start the process over clean?

Anyway, I've installed all of these mods manually (because of not being able to run the BWS), and ran into what I thought were problems with the BW install orders. For instance, I assumed that if I wanted the flaming swords component of 1pp v2.70 to affect all fiery blades in the game and mods that I would need to install this late in the order as opposed to early as it states in the BW manual. This was an idea that was inspired by various forum posts about installing 1pp v2.70. I suppose the order in which I modded my game may be the reason for my problems... but, the order seems to make sense to me. If someone could enlighten me to why this order may be defunct I'd be happy to listen to the details (although I can't promise I'll understand them). So... any further suggestions? Any ideas on some of the other questions asked in my initial post? If I do a full reinstall will I be able to use my exported character or saved game?

So, I've downloaded the BWP stuff, and matched my own install order with the manuals. I realize now that they know a hell of a lot more about this sort of thing than I do, so I should pay attention to what they have to say. I still haven't started my fresh reinstall yet, but plan to sometime in the next few days. Still not sure on whether or not I can get the BWS to work with a SoA only game, but I guess I'll find out. Thanks again for your response Lollorian.
