BiG World Project (BWP) v8.2

Entire installation instructions for the Baldur's Gate Megamod

The BiG World Project aims to merge all games of the Baldur's Gate series and the additional contents created by its community in one massive adventure, including a modification of BG1 to run BG1 with the more modern engine of BG2, plus the added functionality of ToB expansion. Now all new functions which are introduced only with BG2 are also available for BG1. This signifies, BG1 uses just like BG2 the same graphic arts, the same character kits, the same magic and the same rules. Now even for those which know BG1 by heart this is a new play experience. Besides, it also includes an additional transition from BG1 to BG2. And all this can expanded with additional mods.

BiG World Project is constantly going through changes to acquire a more stable and bug free version with every new update.

For German gamers you can visit our German forum.

Here you get all what you need for a megamod installation (click me).
- BiG World PDF-Manual (in Englisch, German and Spanish)
- BiG World Setup (for an easy installation)
- BiG World Installpack (contains the installation commands)
- BiG World Fixpack (fixes bugs in mods)
- BiG World Textpack (for foreign languages (currently in German and in Spanish))

The current instructions are divided into the following versions:

BGT Minimal-version
This minimal installation is very easy and fast done. You don't need anything to know about the BG mods. Install this version to play BG1 with the BG2 game engine until the end of ToB. We recommend this version to gamers, who has not played BG, yet. Only the BiG World Setup will offer this version and it depends on the Standard-version. The following mods will be installed with this version:
BG2 Fixpack, Baldur's Gate Trilogy and Restored Textscreen Music with the Language Pack.

Recommend-version
The recommend mods depends on recommendations from gamers and modders from different BG game forums. This version is a small megamod and a solid basis. This version alone gives you much new game-experience and content and if you wish you can add some more of your lovely choosen mods to it. Only the BiG World Setup will offer this version and it depends on the Standard-version. The mods for this version are marked green in the Linklist and the BiG World Setup.

Standard-version
Herewith you can install all mods which have not an absurd degree of difficulty or known bugs. You can take all these Standard-mods or choose the ones, you like. The Install.bat installs only the mods you have extracted into the BG2 main directory. The mods for this version are marked green and blue in the Linklist and the BiG World Setup.

Tactic-version
With this installation you can add mods and components to the Standard-version that make above all the fights with the enemies more difficult and, therefore, are thought for experienced gamers. The mods for this version are marked orange in the Linklist and the BiG World Setup.

Expert-version
This version tries to fathom the feasible and includes all available mods of the Standard- and the Tactic-version and additional the mods, which are bugged at the moment. You have a 100% chance of running into bugs and/or CTDs (crash to desktop). The mods for this version are marked grey in the Linklist and the BiG World Setup.

With the "BiG World Setup" you can do a BG2 only installation with all these versions, too (except the BGT Minimal-Version).

This project is in development. Beginners should keep absolutely to the instructions, while experienced players with some efforts, tests and bugfixing can also create their own version of the BiG World.

Step by Step Instructions

BG1 installation
- Make a full installation of BG1 and Tales of the Sword Coast
- Should be installed in C:\Games\Baldur's Gate
- Patch it with BioWare’s official ToSC patch v5512
- Start BG1, make your settings, create a character and make a quicksave with Q in Candlekeep
- Quit the game

BG2 installation
- Make a full installation of BG2 and Throne of Bhaal
- Should be installed in C:\Games\BGII - SoA
- Patch it with BioWare’s official ToB patch v26498
- Start BG2 and ToB, make your settings, create a character and after the autosave quit the game

Important: Don't change the BG graphic-options or not more then 1024x768. You can get crashs to desktops (CTDs) if you take a higher resolution as 1024x768. When you want to play in a higher resolution take the Widescreen Mod.
If you want to use the Widescreen mod try out several resolutions until you found one that's optimal. It's probably better to do the testing on a clean BG2 install first (which shouldn't take long on a modern computer), to get a feel for the viewable area as well as text clarity, and then reply the selected resolution during the installation (you will be asked for it).

Begin the installation
  • Download the BiG World Setup
  • Start the "BiG World Setup" and follow the on-screen instructions (the Setup runs the "BiG World Install.bat" automatically)
  • Play your megamod.

Note:
The BWP-Tools were created for Windows 2000 upward, so you can use them on Windows NT/2000/XP/Vista/7, only.

We are glad about every suggestion and every criticism which serves to improve the BiG World Project.
The BiG World Project Team is available for you at any time in the forums.

Greetings Leonardo Watson and Leomar

In the next days we?ll update the linklist and the "BiG World Setup" for the v8.2 and after that you can start with the BWP v8.2 installation.

Note: Do not use the "BiG World Setup v8.1" anymore. This version is not compatible with the new "BiG World Project v8.2" and you can?t do a new installation with it. Please wait until the new "BiG World Setup v8.2" is relesead in the next days.

The "BiG World Setup v8.2" is released, now.

As always, congrats. I'm glad that you got this version out as I was hoping for an update to add the new version of BP before Christmas(when I plan to do my next attempt at the game). Looking forward to my next playthrough. :D

Hi,

?"Dark Horizons" and "Hard Times" moved into the Tactic-version

I'm wondering why Dark Horizons has been moved to tactics, is it bicause of the tough fights at the very begining of the game or some known issues with mod making it less stable?

I ask because I got this error

I had assumed that my Dark Horizon download was some how corrupt and am still 90% sure that this is the case since I payed it before without issues. But seeing your decesion to move it to tactics has me with some doubt about my initial assumption.

Anyways Ill probably just goof off with my current install untill 8.2 set up is ready as going into certain parts of DH is causing CTD.

Thanks,

If it would be too bugged, it would have been moved to expert...
And yes, it's fights that made some people at Kerzenburg mad and caused that decision.

People, please attach your (compressed) BiG World Debug.txt and WeiDU.log files from your BGII-SoA folder to debug any errors :D

(btw, why dya think the AURORA error's related to DarkHorizons?? I don't think REEVOR.cre's from DH :unsure:)

@dabus: Besides the totally uber fights, DH also has some totally imba itamz to care of said fights ;) (although you'll probably have to cheat yourself the gold to buy said itamz :lol:)

Thanks,
Lol

You're right that file isn't from DH for the sake of completeness I'll add the Reevor change log and Aurora debg file.

Finaly Ill add a changelog for one of the DH cre files just for the sake of completeness.

Is it possible to install only the mods currently present in my BWP downloads, without downloading anything else or updating their versions? I read the BWP documentation but couldn't find something on this subject...

After reinstalling WinXP my Program Files' folders were intact and so was the Black Isle folders with everything in its place, but the game wouldn's play. So' I thought to attempt to reinstall only everything that was installed (and which present now in the folder), hoping my savegames will work.

{It seems I should've posted this at the BWPSetup topic, could a mod please move it?}

Nice work guys! :new_thumbs:

BTW, the text on pages 144 and 164 of the English PDF is slightly outdated. It still mentions an incompatibility between Spell Revisions and Rogue Rebalancing which was actually resolved a few months ago.

@}VazrzaEl{:
Downloads are skipped if the size of the download and the existing files match.

If you need to force the BWS not to download, choose an adjusted install, go to the selection-screen. Load your last saved or exported selection (whatever you did -- if you did nothing during the last install, choose the saved-option). Save again. Exit. Open the BiG World Setup\Config\Setup.ini.

Edit a few lines:

[Order]
Au3Detect=1
Au3BuildGui=1
Au3Select=4
Au3GetVal=1
Au3CleanInst=4
Au3PrepInst=1
Au3Net=4

This will skip the selection-dialog at the beginning, the backup and the download. It will continue with the validation of your downloads.

This patch should fix that. It is a manual patch for now, but an easy one. You need to make the change before (re)installing Aurora though.

Note that these are not creatures hosed by Aurora, but by some other mod. Aurora just attempts to fix them, however, as best as another mod can fix another mod's mistakes at any rate.

It can do nothing for stuff like "header misplaced" errors, which are CREs that are hosed beyond repair. It will skip patching them though, so those messages are informational rather than install errors. (Informational in the sense that it usually points to a defect in another mod.)

There is a mod quite early on that seems to have corrupted your reevor.cre, but offhand I can't really tell what it is. It seems to be BGT itself, according to this post anyway.

Because of some minor typos in the "BiG World Install.bat" we uploaded a corrected "BiG World Installpack".
Additional the Spanish BWP guide is ready and you can download it, now.
The BWS is updated and we're starting to test the new version at the moment. We hope to release the BWS v8.2 asap. ;)

By the way, we moved "Dark Horizons" again and this time in the Expert-version, because of mentioned bugs in different threads (one example here). This is caused, because not all fixes of White Agnus are implemented in the BGT version, yet, and needs more refinements.

aVENGER, thanks for checking the descriptions and comments to your mods in the BWP guide. We'll correct this. :)

Are the only problems mislabled items etc..? Because I can live with that. In regards to the corrupt cre on my install, I looked up the original CRE files on the DH folder (pre-moded I Assume) and those appear corrupted before any additional modding. For example CM01A514 says :

Oooo, alright, then... just let me go and rent one of the inn's rooms. Prepare yourself for a night of pure passion that you'll not soon forget!

In her inital meeting dialog file according to the DLTC which seems pretty out of character for LE evil mage, I think of this type of behavior as more chaotic. Further her name strings also has random dialog rather then "some generic mage". This leads me to believe it was something that happend during download or unzipping as I have played this mod before in BWP 7.x without problem. Unless. the latest version introduced these errors.

Anyways, I still have the full instal on my computer and if anyone needs any files to track down these errors I will be happy to provide.

The misplaced strings would just be misplaced references to them :P Since the .cre you looked at isn't actually in the game, DLTCEP (or whatever you're using to view them) just takes the strings from the dialog.tlk that would've been there if it'd been installed (which could be strings from other mods)

Try to open the .cre that's in your game, not in the DarkHorizons\ folder, and if your strings are misplaced even then, well, its likely that your game's kaput (but before that, just start a new BGII or ToB game and check if the dialogs look proper) It may just be an isolated problem :D

I remember getting some gnarly dialog with Viconia saying stuff that goes in Kit descriptions :D Turned out, it was caused by the NMR-Relationship mod :P

Cheers,
Lol

I realize the the CRE file is not in the game. I can't even open up the CRE files from the game, it gives an unable to read error when I try. My point was that the file was corrupt before they where even modded by anything else. So I figured that since the CRE file was corrupt any mods trying to mod those files just corrupted them further. I maybe wrong, but I believed that the install errors where an isolated incident ( due to a bad download or bad zip) rather then something that will prevent DH from being installed in a BWP game in the future.

Now, Leomar has said he will move DH to expert, I'm not so sure if my original conclusions are correct. Is he basing that decesion on the linked bug report, which mentions mislabled items, and my expeience or is there other evidence that I haven't seen that indicates DH has larger problems? I like playing Dark Horizon, it has a cool James Bond kinda vibe to it so I would be willing to live with mislabled items. However, if those corrupt files keep popping up and hosing my install then I can live without it.

I guess there is an easy way to fund out, I will redownload DH and check it out those files to confirm my hypothesis. If those files are still corrupt in my new download attempt then, maybe those files need to be patched before a BWP install.

Edit
Well the new downloaded files are corrupt too. I can't believe this hasn't been reported before, which makes me believe that I am doing something wrong. The only reported corrupt CRE file I could find that is actually used by the in the game is CMSEC13.cre in areas CM3374 and CM3375. CLUAing this CRE will cause the game to lock up. You can't CLUA into those area as they cause lock up. Is anyone else getting these errors on their install? I looked at the DH forums and no mention of these errors, so either no body has played this mod since the last update or I am overlooking something.

Well I "fixed" the CRE files and adding them to the overide folder will no longer cause lockup. Apperently, in addition to fubar names the CRE files where also referencing kits (well most of them) that did not exist.

Im not sure if this will effect quest etc, I have not tested that far. But I'll include the fixed CRE files for download in case anyone else has these problems.

So, according to the first post, that's all that is needed to have a nice, authentic, (presumably) bug-free integrated play-though of BGI&II.
Since I'm tired of waiting for the setup, I did that already? Is there anything I've missed or that I should know before I start my game?

Oh, and another thing - is there a tweak that makes stacks of stuff bigger(e.g. potions, arrows and the like)?
