Please please please someone help me out. I try to install BGT and in the beginning of the installation process, it asks me to enter the full path to my Baldur's Gate installation. So I tried writing C:\ProgramFiles\BlackIsle\App Then it says "Invalid Baldurs Gate directory or incorrect baldurs gate installation." Can someone tell me what to write down for this part? thanks

You might be forgetting to add spaces between 'Black Isle' and perhaps 'Program Files'. (this is my BG dir: D:\program files\Black Isle\Baldur's Gate)

I'm getting this exact same error and I am copying and pasting the location of my BG directory, its:

C:\Program Files\Black Isle\Baldur's Gate

but the install keeps telling me this is incorrect.

Help!

Ah okay I came across this post http://www.shsforums...showtopic=18062 and it seems that many files that are listed here weren't installed. Weird! My discs don't have any scratches on them.

Anyway I'm searching through the discs (I have The Original Saga, its 3 CDs) and I can only find .cbf files in the data folders...where would the .bif files be?

The 3 CD version of Baldur's Gate and Tales of the Sword Coast is using a different kind of BIF files, which are compressed, hence the reduced number of CDs compared to other editions. The CBF files are those compressed BIF files. If you have them in the data directory on the hard disk, that should be fine. You shall have both BIF and CBF files on your installation. It doesn't matter whether the files have CBF or BIF extension, what matters is that you have all the listed names (extension aside).

However, there may be another problem to solve. There is a version on 3 CD that is not making properly a full installation, at least one version available in French is suffering from this. The consequence is that files Area4100.bif and Area4300.bif are missing. There is a workaround: these files are installed in case of recommended installation. So the process to make a full install would be:
  • install Baldur's Gate in the "recommended" mode (I can't be sure it's the proper term, this is a translation of the French word)
  • copy Area4100.bif and Area4300.bif from the Data directory in a safe place (out of the game directory)
  • uinstall the game
  • install the game again, this time with a full installation : the two files should be missing
  • move the files back from their safe place into the Data directory

I am using the 4-DVD "Forgotten Realms Deluxe Edition" and I get the same error. I checked and all of the files in that list are in my BG directory. Any other possibilities?

Thanks
Jason

I have the same problem with Windows 7 64 bit. The installer doesn't accept the directory I installed and updated BG1 and TOC:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Baldur's Gate Original Saga

Install it somewhere like C:\Games\BG1 instead. Make sure you do a custom/full install (this isn't as apparent when installing BG1 as it is for BG2). Don't install either BG1 or BG2 to any flavour of Program Files under Vista or Win7. It will save you a lot of trouble, even if you have UAC off.
