Basically, 4 NPCs would be introduced into the game.
Ghebast
Elven Sorcerer
Neutral Good
Romance: No
Saheidra
Elven Wild Mage
Chaotic Evil
Romance: No
Kethlavin
Elven Cleric
True Neutral
Romance: Yes
Meloran
Human Wizard Slayer
Lawful Neutral
Romance: No
3 of them would be introduced in various sections of Athkatla. The last (Saheidra) would be picked up in Spellhold. While it is not necessary to take all 4, it would add in a minor fashion to the story that they are all involved in.
The basic story is this: There is a man named Gnomaul, and he is head of a cult that is known well enough in other regions, but not-so-heard-of in Amn. Meloran is an assassin working for Gnomaul to kill Ghebast and Kethlavin, both of whom are unaware of him or his mission. Ghebast and Kethlavin are working to find and kill Gnomaul. Ghebast is also trying to free his wife Saheidra from Spellhold.
If you take Meloran first, Ghebast and Kethlavin will be unavailable until significantly later, and Meloran will reveal his mission to you. If you take Ghebast or Kethlavin first, Meloran will still be available, but he will not reveal his mission.
Meloran will be extremely quiet, and he will have very little banter. Ghebast will have a moderate amount of banter. Kethlavin will be a real chatterbox, and a friendly one (to an extent) at that.
When you get to Spellhold, you can either take Saheidra (an inmate there) with you or leave Ghebast with her.
A short time before you get to Suldanesselar (slawter teh spellin!), you will discover the hiding place of Gnomaul. There Saheidra will die (whether she was in you party or not). After fighting various fanatics, you will find Gnomaul has become a celestial being--a very weak one (this fight won't be challenging at all), but one nonetheless.
There Meloran will reveal his loyalty to Gnomaul (if he had not done so already), and Ghebast and Kethlvin will swear to kill both Gnomaul and Meloran. Here you may choose to side with Meloran or Ghebast and Kethlavin. If you side with Meloran, you kill Ghebast and Kethlavin runs, barely surviving, and Gnomaul will create a powerful magical item as a reward. After that, Meloran will ask Gnomaul if he may continue to travel with you, and Gnomaul will permit it. If you side with Ghebast and Kethlavin, both Meloran and Gnomaul will die. Ghebast and Kethlavin will then create a different magical item with some of the parts they find lying around. That is the end of the major quest.
If you do not take the quest, any of these party members with you will leave, and will be available 48 hours later at the Copper Coronet. It is assumed that Ghebast and Kethlavin were successful.
If you sided with Meloran, in Throne of Bhaal Kethlavin will attempt to assassinate you with the blessing of angry gods. This battle would not be severely difficult either, but may require some strategy. If Meloran is in your party, nothing special happens, but if he was not in your party, Kethlavin will have already killed him, now making it impossible to get Meloran now.
If you start a new game in Throne of Bhaal, it is assumed you sided with Ghebast and Kethlavin (Meloran will be unavailable).
So... be brutally honest, I do not want to be the author of a horrible mod, especially with the amount of time something like this may demand. What is your opinion? Anything cliche/absurd/inconsistent/etc.?

"Tyranny is a quiet thing at first, a prim and proper lady pursing her lips and shaking her head disapprovingly, asking, well what were you doing (wearing that dress, walking home at that hour, expressing those inappropriate thoughts) anyway? It's subtle and insidious, disguised as reasonable precautions which become more and more oppressive over time, until our lives are defined by the things we must avoid. She's easy enough to agree with, after all, she's only trying to help -- and yet she's one of the most dangerous influences we face, because if she prevails, it puts the raping, robbing, axe-wielding madmen of the world in complete control. Eventually they'll barely need to wield a thing, all they'll have to do is leer menacingly and we fall all over ourselves trying to placate them." -godlizard

That way, if life gets busy or your situation changes, you won't keep everybody years for you to finish...
