Hi there,
I've been wrestling with various installs for some time and I have got my current one pretty close to how I want it, but I keep getting CTD at random times and this is really annoying. I've tried all the usual fixes but nothing seems to affect it. Sometimes the game will play happily for an hour sometimes it will crash after a couple of seconds and the only thing I've found that helps (but does not cure) is to not have anyone other than the PC within sight whilst things are happening.

I'm running Windows XP 64 on an Atrhlon64 3700+ machine with a Nvidia Geforce 9800+ 512mb video card.
I have a BWP 8.01 Tactics Installation with a few tweaks... mostly involving Kits.
The exception code is 0xc0000005 at address 0x000000000099a218 in BGMAIN.exe.
I have logging on but nothing appears in the baldur.log or baldur.err
my weido log is attached
Attached File  Weidu.log   71.2K   180 downloads

If anyone has an idear of what I've done/got wrong before I have yet another go at reinstalling it from scratch again I would be most greatful.

Regards

Mods don't play well with no cd hacks. You'll get errors installing some mods onto a no cd'd .exe, and adding the no cd'd .exe after mod installation will cause crashes and mods to fail.

Use a mini-image if you don't want to play with your CDs.

 Now you mention it, it's kind of obvious, as this is the only difference to the executable since my previous build which did not have the CTD.

Still  thank you, I probably wouldn't have got there for days, if I got there at all, as I have not seen this mentioned on the boards.

This community at large frowns pretty hard on pirating BG. Even if someone supports software piracy in general - on principle the BG games in particular should be paid for (because they're just THAT good and still deserve reward).

But there are plenty of legitimate reasons nowadays for not wanting to use your original disks more than you have to. I, personally, keep my BG disks hermetically sealed in an air-tight safe just to drag em out every year or two for another BG playthru. :P

But, this is not a topic that is often discussed in threads on these forums just because the knowledge lends itself to piracy more easily, and that's the last thing anyone in this community wants to support. For example, I doubt you'll ever see a thread were people discuss which mods work with hacked .exe's, etc.

My reply of "Don't use a hacked .exe", I feel, was keeping with the spirit of the community at large.
