I installed the Big World with the recommended mods plus SOS, CtB and TS and a few minor tweaks like NPCs or the turnip Golem.
It seems now every mage in the game, even lowly orc mages, casts like 20 powerful buffs instantly when they see me, making fights involving those guys not interesting but tedious. I understand that high level mages would be like that, but every numpty that can cast a single spell? No thanks.
So I was wondering if anyone can tell me which of these mods adds this (as I do not remember it from the vanilla game), and if uninstalling such a mod out of a Big World install qould work of kill the whole installation?

Please post the WeiDU.log from your BGII-SoA folder so that we may understand whether you did a "recommended" install or a "tactics"/"expert" one.

But Swords Coast Strategems (I & II) does improve mage scripts and spells to be a lot tougher. You can't just cheese the BGI mages now ;) But yeah, if you're having trouble fighting them, use tactics - hit 'n run, backstabbing and stuff.

If all else fails, CLUAConsole:EnableCheatKeys() and spam Ctrl-R on the portraits :P

Don't try to uninstall stuff unless you can't work around it. It may lead to unnecessary side-effects like failed installs, corrupt dialog.tlks and if you're really unlucky, bad sectors  (biffing a megamod is harddrive intensive work and should be repeated with caution)

Cheers,
Lol

It's the 'mages prebuff' scripts of SCS. SCS also has harder mages scripts without prebuffing, and they are another option available.

Just curious, anyway... How do I tweak the installer in such a way that the non-prebuff versions of the scripts are installed? This problem bugged me, too.

The install.bat only installs those Pre-buff components in a Tactics or above install not on a recommended one. :D

If ya don't want it in Tactics either, open the BiG World Install.bat using a text editor like notepad and change:

%IFTES%scs%S%scs%L%0%SK% 5024 5033 5043 5060 --logapp | %M%

to

%IFTES%scs%S%scs%L%0%SK% 5024 5030 5040 5060 --logapp | %M%

Cheers,

And if you wish to alter the content of the casted prebuff, you take the Install.bat and open it with Notepad, go to this line:

%IFNTES%scsII%S%scsII%L%0%SK% 6152 6162 6170 6180 6190 6200 --logapp | %M%
%IFNTGS%scsII%S%scsII%L%3%SK% 6152 6162 6170 6180 6190 6200 --logapp | %M%
%IFNTHS%scsII%S%scsII%L%1%SK% 6152 6162 6170 6180 6190 6200 --logapp | %M%

%IFTES%scsII%S%scsII%L%0%SK% 6151 6161 6171 6181 6191 6201 --logapp | %M%
%IFTGS%scsII%S%scsII%L%3%SK% 6151 6161 6171 6181 6191 6201 --logapp | %M%
%IFTHS%scsII%S%scsII%L%1%SK% 6151 6161 6171 6181 6191 6201 --logapp | %M%

And change the lines according to this:

Install Component [Smarter Mages]?
Not together with the SpellPack's Shroud of Flame component and the Charm Plants, Guardian
Mantle, Persistence component
6150 1] Mages cast some short-duration spells instantly at start of combat, to simulate prebattle casting
6151 2] Mages only cast short-duration spells instantly at start of combat if they are created in sight of the PC
6152 3] Mages never cast short-duration spells instantly at start of combat
[3]
Install Component [Smarter Priests]?
6160 1] Priests cast some short-duration spells instantly at start of combat, to simulate prebattle casting
6161 2] Priests only cast short-duration spells instantly at start of combat if they are created in sight of the PC
6162 3] Priests never cast short-duration spells instantly at start of combat

And when you are don, save... and then just run the .bat...

The install.bat only installs those Pre-buff components in a Tactics or above install not on a recommended one.

Well I guess then a recommended install where I add some more components in the process ends up being a tactical install then? Because that is what I did, and I definitely have buffed mages after selecting recommended install initially.

%IFTES%scsII%S%scsII%L%0%SK% 6151 6161 6171 6181 6191 6201 --logapp | %M%

I would very much like to do this, but also very much have no idea how the install.bat works. So what do you mean by 'change accordingly'?
I assume the 6151 6161 etc are the options I can select. But what are IFTES, IFTGS, IFTHS?
And the 0 3 and 1 in the 6th column?

Or in other words, what lines exactly do I need to put into my install.bat to get rid of orc mages protected by what feels like more spells than Elminster can memorize?

Thanks for all the help

The 0, 1, and 3 is the language selector, the IFTES is IF you select the Tactical English ... the G is for German, and the H is Spanish language... NOTE: you can change all of them!

The IFNTES refers to IF None-Tactical English, so Standard install.
And it should be noted that the Tactical is also included in the Expert Version, if there is no expert specific set.

You may have done the same mistake than me the fist time I have used BWP.
When you start BWS, It asks you which version you want (standard, recommended, expert, tactics or something like that). That pre-selects mods for you.
Then you can add or remove mods.
After that, when the install.bat start, it ask you again if you want a STANDARD, TACTIC and EXPERT, and this time, that pre-selects components for you (amongst those available in the mods you have previously chosen).
So if you choose first recommended mods but tactic component (of these mods), you will have mage "pre-buff" component :)
Hope this helps.

Ok now I understand. I always thought the BWS somehow "created" a custom install.bat by adding/deleting lines from the BWP Installpack install.bat :P Hmmm ... that's something to ponder on.

Thanks,

So if you choose first recommended mods but tactic component (of these mods), you will have mage "pre-buff" component :)

This should be all said here... But combining them... when you start the BWS, you can choose:
Minimal: BG2Fixpack, BWP tools+ and with or without BGT
Recommended: Those above and the Green mods from here.
Standard: The above and the Pink/Light_red mods from there.(According to Leomar it's blue, but in my eyes, it's like pink, I might be color blind or the different forum background might interfere) Anyways:Posted Image
Tactical: The above and the the Orange mods from there.
Expert: The above and the the Gray mods from there.

And then it downloads and unpacks them, and starts the BiG World Install.bat

Which looks at the mods in the game folder, you then can adjust the mods as it checks what's there and whether you wish to continue or make a recheck when you have adjusted the mods by manually adding or removing them, and then it asks to select Language and in which mode to install every mod in your game folder:
Standard: Installs all the mods that belong to either Minimal, Recommended or Standard BWS installation if they are in the game folder. With the said options of those mods.
Tactical: The above and the Tactical mods & Tactical options of those mods.
Expert: The above and the bug-gy mods too.

Ok now I understand. I always thought the BWS somehow "created" a custom install.bat by adding/deleting lines from the BWP Installpack install.bat :P Hmmm ... that's something to ponder on.

It actually does a bit editing to the Install.bat, or the standard install would insist the BGT, but doesn't if you put the - to the proper place in the BWS... as it skips the check that makes it priority, and it also adjusts the insert that is put to the BGT mods installer(that shows where the BG1+BGTotSC+patch v1.3.5512 is).

 Uuh, my life is so hollow. <_<

I agree with you, in fact, you know all this better than me.
I am color-blind but according to install.bat, the latter does a little bit more that install mods in the directory :
What's not clear the first time you use BWS is that when you choose SCS for example (or SCSII) the components will be different if you choose Standard or Tactical in the install.bat.
That was what I tried to explain :)
