BiG World & generic dx trojan ?

Hello,

I have been trying to install BGP (standard installation), and as I was extracting the downloaded mods, McAffee blocked several .exe, apparently infected with the generic dx trojan :

SETUP-ITEM_REV.EXE
SETUP-KIVAN.EXE
SETUP-THAEL.EXE
SETUP-ELDOTH.EXE


Might it be possible that certain mods are actually infected? Is this trojan dangerous? I have not started the installation yet but I have restaured those components, as I am tired of "installing not playing" :D


Another question : when BiG World searched for the BG1 NPC PORTRAITS v1.6 mod or something like that, it didn't find it, and on the link I was given I found the 1.7 version. Will it work too?

Blame your antivirus for those.

I did it, just wanted to know whether it really was a trojan.

Anyway, another question:

I'm doing this installation, it's been 3,5 hours, everything normal till now : the "generalized biffing" installation seems to take forever, it's kinda stuck at "copying 1 file".

Is it normal or should I worry?

Generalized Biffing v1
~GENERALIZED_BIFFING.TP2~
This WeiDU mod allows you to biff the content of the override folder for improved performance, that
means the files are converted into the BIF file format and moved into the data folder. The game
thereby loads much faster again and the performance is running pretty smoothly without jerking. Differently
from BWP's end_biff it is compatible with the common WeiDU stack uninstall operation.
This process lasts up to two hours even on a fast computer!


It's normal. though you might have wanted to wait a bit for BiG World 8 :P

Thank you both for your help! Installation done and everything is running well :)


I see that no additionnal class kit has been installed by BGP, not that I wanted to play one but I thought there would be loads of them :P


I have then run a new game, and well, something I should have chosen to remove before I install it : Ding0 experience fixer. I'm Fighter/Mage/Thief and I thought that BGP would fix the values to 75%, or something, but now, unlocking gives 10 exp, as does writing a spell, and quests give 50% :/ At this pace I'm never going to lvl.

So then I tried to uninstall Ding0's Experience Fixer but I don't really know how to do this. When I run setup-d0tweak.exe, the box opens, there's only the first line and nothing happens.

Do I have to use BGP setup to uninstall unwanted mods ?

Kits: Yes, there a loads of them. And if you read the manual, you can see why and where to get some. ;)
(There are too many of them and there is no list of prefered kits, no bug reports/if things work...)

Fixer: I assume that you are running BG1, so this is normal. A no, getting nothing at all would be normal if you unlock a door or learn a spell in BG1. And if you have many quests, it is normal to reduce the XP that you get, ballincing the game and something like that.

And you cannot uninstall a mod after biffing. You can try to get the files that control XP and put them in your override-folder, so that this file is used and not those that are biffed.

Bah, I have given up on the idea of unbiffing all these files =) I read the explanation about these settings in the manual and it convinced me, though I think I will have trouble at the beginning because I'm playing a solo Fighter/Mage/Thief who needs a lotta experience to get effective.

But at least I won't be lv35 before reaching SoA or something like that.

I have a problem actually.

When I attack someone, my char goes and attacks him, but : if she gets hit, she suddenly stops attacking, stays there, and I have to move her and click again to attack (just reclicking on attack doesn't work). This can also happen if the target flees or casts some spell at me. This is quite problematic as in the future, when there'll be more action, it will be hard to handle.

You know this problem?


Oh, and I have had the quite unpleasant surprise of being awoken by the crazy entropist after my first rest. He seemed to be high lvl (~10 or even more) so it was quite err... hard, but I managed to kill him, thanks to 2 haste potions, avoiding his crazy spells, and some hit & run for 20 minutes in the forest with my bow and Imoen's Missile wand :whistling:

19000 XP, two +2 daggers, a spellbook that I hope I'll be able to sell at a good price and a very good teddy bear item as a reward, nice, but I wonder what he's doing there since he should appear in BG2, whatever, I'm now lv 3/3/4, so that's not so bad.

About the not attacking problem, it can be fixed by giving your character (and any NPC) an AI script from the customization screen (the screen where ya can change your clothing colors and stuff :P )

And about "the crazy entropist" (LOL :lol: ), you just met Rhialto the magnificient - allround badass and eater of Bhaalspawn (but a nice guy once ya know him, not that he lets you :D ). He was added by the Wild Mage Additions mod ;)

Before anyone thinks he's overpowered and possibly a BG2 character (level 11), he's easily defeatable if you can avoid his initial barrage of spells, there is a (random??) chance of him turning into a squirrel, at which moment you can eat ... kill him ;) But there have been reports that he doesn't change in the recent BWPv7 (just one of the many bugs that may be solved in BWPv8 ;) )

And that book is invaluable for any Wild Mage char in your party :cheers:

... there is no such a thing... there is BiG World Setup, which is the Setup file... which can be used to install all of the BiG World's install options. Meaning that you won't install any Kits, specified NPC kits etc that you can if you choose not to include the setup-Generalized_Biffing.exe in the game directory when it's finally rechecked and then run.

but I wonder what he's doing there since he should appear in BG2, whatever, I'm now lv 3/3/4, so that's not so bad.

Well, his script is actually optimized for BG1 game too, so he should be killable... but the items and Xp aren't of course... the Team is going to do that in the next release... or so it's said. And it's going to repair the script mishandling too, that makes the encounter far harder than it should.

Well the answer is obvious, if you wish to make a change to a .cre file after most of the files are biffed, then you need to not bif the .cre's. Or you can always use the Near Infinity to export the .cre's... but in this case it's hard cause the previous tweak effects all .cre's...

So it has nothing to do with biffing or the files themselves, but the cercomstances they are in and the Generalized_Biffing mod used in BWP to speed up the game.
Now, we could use the old End_Biff to intermidiatly(sp?) to biff most of the media etc. files while then have the Generalized_Biffing to speed up the game after the Kits, GUI, BG1Music etc. BG1 portion mods have been installed, while still being is able to be removed(uninstalled), and then reinstalled when the player moves to from the BG1 portion to the BG2 portion of the game. As the reinstall is made with few added mods and perhaps different GUI and BG2 Musics etc. Yeah, that's complicated...

Get the wm_rhia1.cre (or something like that) from the backup folder of the Resource Fixer and put it in your override. You should not get the XP (too much), nor the daggers since he loses them after accidently transforming himself. And yes, this joke is not that funny at the moment since he apparently does not tranform with BP AI...

Errr , no, he's not actually optimized for BG1. Unless you always start the game with imported characters.
He appears after the first rest, basically when you're lvl 1 and can have only Montaron, Imoen & Xzar with you. He wields 2 daggers and can kill a lv1 fighter in 10s. He's resistant to low lvl magic.

That is to say, you can beat him only with cheesy tactics.


If you want to make it harder, make him appear in BG2 ONLY or in the end of BG1, not in the beginning....

I must have been unlucky then, since I had to quick load about 10 times before eventually killing him, and never did he turn into a squirrel :/ I have even been killed a couple of times with a cow :D

That's a known incompatibility bug, that is there cause you have more than 1 mod that alters the characters AI scripts. SCS + SCSII + BP with the original mod causes that...

None of this answers my question. Perhaps Icendoan or someone as knowledgeable should respond.
