This is an interesting, if optional bit you or scient might check into. In BG1 there was a minimum stat requirement option for certain items: Level, Strength, Strength Bonus, Intelligence, Dexterity, Wisdom, Constitution, Charisma in that order. However all but Level was disabled in Torment.

The reason I'm suggesting it might be worth a tweak to enable is because, beyond the obvious "it makes modding better" notion, several items show it was supposed to be used somewhat in the planning of them:
-All scrolls have an Intelligence requirement of 9
-Crescent Hatchet (AX2) has a min Strength of 13
-Baatezu Mace (BMACE) has a min Strength of 12
-Work Hammer (HAMMER) has a min Strength of 10
-Mace (MACE) has a min Strength of 12
-Antler Axe (PAX) has a min Strength of 13
-Poor Quality Mace (PMACE) has a min Strength of 12
-Poor Quality Sledgehammer (PSLEDGE) has a min Strength of 12
-High Quality Sledgehammer (QSLEDGE) has a min Strength of 12 too
-Dhall's Quill Pen (QUILL) has a min Wisdom of 12
-Sledgehammer (SLEDGE), predictably enough, has a min Strength of 12
-Hammer of Comminution (SLEDGECM) has a min Strength of 14
-Enchanted Hammer (SLEDGEMG) has a min Strength of 10
-Mad Splinter (SPLINTER) has a min Intelligence AND Wisdom of 12
-Vhailor's Mercykiller Armor (VHAILOR) has a min Strength of 18...kinda a useless one though

So as you can see there is some warrant to restoring this in the EXE: all the items would need is a bit added to their descriptions noting the requirement, which shouldn't be too hard to translate across the board. This should too make that tweak you considered of having TNO start with 3 for every stat a lot more interesting in how people play the game.

*sad puppy eyes just in case*

That -is- interesting. Where are you seeing these stats set in game? Is this the big string of bytes that stats at offset 0x25 in the ITM files and labeled as "Unknown" in Near Infinity?

Adding it to the descriptions would actually be, by far, the worst part of the whole thing, because that means we have to call in the translators and we can't release until they're done, etc. etc. yadda, and the added workload makes it less likely that someone will want to come in and translate for new languages, etc.

If it wasn't for that though, sure, I think that'd be a really neat tweak (or maybe UB component, actually, since it would be all based on original Black Isle content) to add. In fact, I'm gonna add this to the list of questions to ask MCA if it was intentionally pulled or not when I get the chance.

The version of NearInfinity you have lists these as Unknown? That's really strange, since the version I have here (the last released beta) has them listed properly starting at offset 0x24 onward. They should appear directly after the Equipped Appearance parameter, starting with Min Level.

That is strange. In my version, 0x24 is "Disabled Paper Doll" (Yes/No) and 0x25 through 0x33 is "Unknown".

I'm using version 1.33 beta 18. Do you have a more recent version than that?

Gah, this explains a few things, apparently I'm using the 1.31 release (teaches me to download while chatting with my gf :X), which means for some reason between this version and 1.33 it was changed to unknown values. Makes some sense since they don't work normally but have values, he might've figured they were just unknowns.

At the very least, they're the same values.

EDIT: Wait, how do you have 1.33? The latest beta version shown is 1.32...unofficial update?

Wasn't actually sure myself. Looked around and found this, which suggests there's an even newer version than the one I'm using:

Yep, found it...and it looks like the Min Level attribute (which is listed as "Disable Paper Doll") is broken: the weapon works but no matter what value for level, it treats TNO's paper doll and animation as if it's a fist weapon. However it clearly still works as an item since you can use it readily to attack and whatnot. Interestingly enough after awhile if TNO's armed with a weapon with that set he will just "stop" attacking until you tell him to continue.

That sure as heck isn't right. o_O'
