"An assertion failed in ChVideo.cpp at line number 8641".

I tried looking through the directory for the ChVideo.cpp file, but there didn't seem to be one. Any ideas on what went wrong or where I can start looking for the file?

The file assertion errors are 'common' errors the game engines files have so to speak, there's actually no such files as "ChVideo.cpp" in your game install, the probable .cpp files, it's a temporary file the computer uses to process the information, such as: What to display on the monitor on each moment... so the reasons for those errors is that something else is wrong with the install, here's the Bioware list of the general errors, unfortunatly for you, it doesn't give a clue on what is wrong. And as google doesn't have a clue either, you might have ran into an error that is not really well known.
You might wish to edit the TobEx.ini and make it so that the game gives more info on the crashes.

I have a modified list of those, and known fixes and a few additions to them, but unfortunatly I won't be able to retreave it for some time, but I don't think it has your error either.

Why move it here? That post should really be in this thread where the reports started.

Couldn't find an answer to this and I've just installed and reinstalled BG and BG2 with expansions 4 times already, so kind of sick of making mistakes :) I'm going to finish BG1+ and then export my character to BG2 and play on from there. Now, the BWM install how-to tells me to make a char both in BG1 and BG2 and quicksave. Am I wrong to assume that the quicksave character from BG2 is the one I have to play when using BWM? Should I skip the BG2 char creation and then reinstall BWM when I've finished BG1 and imported it to BG2 (+ quicksaved)? Confused as a fart in a strawhat.

I just had one question, to clear things up for me, so here goes. Sorry if this sounds dumb to you, but at the part where you were talking about changing the Baldur.ini to fake out BWS and make it think the game is installed in the default directory, do you just create the folders C:\Program Files\Black Isle\Baldur's Gate and leave it empty, while changing that one line in the alias section of the Baldur.ini to reflect that path? Just making sure i understood that correctly

I just had one question...

They are always welcome.
You understood wrong...

You first need to make sure that the BG1 game works, and you don't want to make any changes to it.... you then make the baldur.ini file in that folder think it's installed to the "C:\Program Files\Black Isle\Baldur's Gate" -folder, by changing the HD0: -line, and then you copy the whole game folder there ... C:\Program Files\Black Isle\<gamefolder>

Hello!

Kind regards from your fan from slovenia!

I have a few difficulties regarding installation of megamod. The first time I installed your mod everything went smoothly 'till the moment I was prompted by install.bat, to restart my computer. When I restarted, the setup program did not continue. I did not know how to continue, I googled and did not find any usable info, so i decided to try and install it again from scratch...

I hard deleted everything concerning the mod, uninstalled and reinstalled vanilla games (gog versions of games), and followed a walktrough during installation. When I got to the last part of the installation process in the gui (before install.bat starts) I got an error message, that I do not have weidu.exe installed. I googled and downloaded the latest version of weidu.exe and program accepted the new version and launched install.bat. But after confirming my language, installation.bat gets stuck at BG1-Patch-Check. The first time I tried to install these mods, I did not encounter such problems. All went ahead smoothly till restart. Both times I did EXACTLY the same thing, the first time installation went trough, the second time, install.bat hanged. Do you have an idea why? Is there a problem in install.bat? I tried to edit all the lines regarding bg1 path, to my specific directory, but the problem still persist.

10x in advance for all your answers!

Well, the Install.bat is direct MSdos line executor, it cannot adapt to situations such as you have ran it into, well it's made to adapt to a few of them, but not all.

The restart comes from the computer needing to change the code language setting it's currently on... to install one of the mods, the Infinity Animations. But really, if you wish to install that mod, you should set the language before you run and ruin the install.bat execution. Or wait until it's recoded to use the ANSI only items.

I don't know where the second comes from, but the only thing you need to do is install the few mods you had left manually, by running the setup-*modname*.exe's .

OK, now I understand what the problem was the first time. But do you know, why I can't no longer run install.bat, because I reinstalled everything THREE times and again I get stuck at the begining and BG1 patch check. Do you have any ideas what I am doing wrong. It says that it did not recognise my installation in default program files folder, but I entered the correct path at the beggining of installation process in setup. When I enter my real path d:\gog\baldurs gate, i get infinite loop of press any key to continue...

After a few more hours of work I managed to install the mod  . I comepletely deleted all the entriess regarding various baldurs gate 1 check and sucessfully installed the mod.

But I still have one small matter to attend to. It seems that recomended version does not include widescreen mod. I downloaded it from the gibberlings site, but after I installed it, nothing happens. The game does still not work in widescreen resolution. Should I repeat the whole process or is there a shorter way of installing just this only mod.

It depends on what happened... your question doesn't really say what did happen. Did the mod get extracted to the game directory, did it run the setup-wodescreen.exe, what did you answer to the questions it gave you ???????, it just raises questions upon questions.

Well, the problem there is caused by the v1.12 BGT's function not accepting the input as the function was revised... besides, there is a kinda of a fix for all this if you follow the 2.Q4. :whistling:

Well, I've read thousand time here that BGT has changed this... I just think that it's probably one of the most FAQ at the moment :woot: ...
BTW, actually, I DID read this part :P , but, I think it's not obvious to "beginner" (such as me) that it is a solution to this problem.
Anyway, it was just an idea, maybe not as good as I thought  .

In your FAQs, I haven't found any reference on how to enable logging into baldur.err file, so I often have to write that again, whereas it's much easier to just link everyone to your FAQs (as i usually do for change-logs).
Could you please add a paragraph explaining how to do that, such as...

What to do in case of crashes:

1. If you haven't done it yet, enable logging.
You can do this by opening baldur.ini with any text editor (such as notepad; better not to use Word or other sophisticated programs); just below [Program Options], add the following line:
Logging On=1
And try to reproduce the crash.
2. Please post on the appropriate forum (usually, you'd better use the Mega Mod forum) your WeiDU.log, baldur.err, and some description of what you were doing when the crash occured; if you were loading an area, if the crash occurred just after it was loaded, or before, and how much of the loading bar had already been displayed.
In order for the post to be readable, please post the WeiDU.log and baldur.err files in spoiler tags, ie digit:
content of the file goes here
If you can't reproduce the crash, please leave logging enabled, post as much information as you can, and post your baldur.err as soon as a crash occurs again (hoping it won't happen again...).

If I have forgotten something, please correct me, and please add this to your FAQs.

Will do at some opportune time .... although the BWP should auto enable this during the baldur.ini editing... if I am not wrong.

In non obvious way, my signature too has the instructions. :P Of course you are correct, it might a be a little more obvious. So I'll try to do it soonish.

@missing files
You probably used WeiDU v230 to install your latest BWP. V230 has the nasty bug that one command to remove files from the game doesn't work as intended. It removes random other files instead.
