Game Crashes at Friendly Arms Inn
#1
Posted 27 May 2009 - 06:07 PM
Having a bit of trouble! When I enter the first floor of the Friendly Arms Inn my game crashes to the desktop.
I have tried to CLUAConsole:MoveToArea("AR6801")..the game crashes, I CLUAConsole:MoveToArea("AR6802") [which is the second floor] got there OK but when I walk down the stairs and enter the first floor...the game crashes!!
Its likely an installation problem or incompatibility problem. Thanks for any help you can give me! I not looking forward to re-Installing if there isn't any other way.

Orm do you know anything about NearInfinity? Save a copy of ar6801.are in a safe place before making any changes. Then open it with NearInfinity and start removing creatures and testing to see what is causing the CtD. When do you get the CtD during loading or just after loading?

cd c:\games\bgt (or wherever your game is) weidu --change-log ar6801.are weidu --change-log ar6801.bcsThen see which mods affected the area and its script. Could be a CRE as Chev says, but start with those.
Make sure you have a copy of WeiDU.exe in your folder first - clone it from any mod's setup-modname.exe if not.
Jarno, I'm sure, can provide far more verbose instructions for using cmd.exe & weidu.exe if necessary .

Orm and Chevalier, thanks for trying the BGT version of Dark Horizons. White Agnus has done the BGT conversation and our next step is, to test it with the BWP, so both of you can help in case of bugs. The change-log will show us, if "Dark Horizons" has to do with it.
Chevalier, at the moment please install only the main component of "Dark Horizons", because the main component patches all files and the "Harder Enemies" component overwrites them. White Agnus will say something to the "Harder Enemies" component at CoM Forum today evening.
I think we'll start to test "Dark Horizons" at this place with the BWP:
07.03. The Lure of the Sirine's Call
07.04. The Stone of Askavar
07.05. Dark Horizons
08.03. Herbs and Potions Add-in for BG1
08.04. Thalantyr Item Upgrade
Greetings Leomar

Like I've been saying, we converted this a long time ago. It would have been nice if someone got in touch with us before trying to reinvent the wheel, but here is the Harder Enemies conversion anyway. It has not been tested, but it does not overwrite either.the main component patches all files and the "Harder Enemies" component overwrites them. White Agnus will say something to the "Harder Enemies" component at CoM Forum today evening.

You will have other issues, like invalid references. BG1 Adventure/Harder Enemies points to a lot of resources in the BG1 Dark Side of the Sword Coast. Well, these resources don't even exist in the BGT DSotSC and it's possible they aren't in Dark Horizons either, so you'll have to check a lot of things carefully if you want to do a proper conversion. For example, Harder Enemies changes some kobolds to use the DS kobold script, so you'll have to either copy that over or reference the right one. That's just one example of many.
Here are other things we addressed in the main mod:
Also, you might want to test some of these mods before including in BWP, rather than the other way around... Or at least make sure they're not in the general/non-expert install before being checked out thoroughly.Changelog for BG1 Adventure
- Optimized code to patch instead of overwrite to avoid conflicts
- Added compatibility with BG1Tutu, EasyTutu and Baldur's Gate Trilogy (BGT)
- Changed MAHAMM01 to MAHAMM03 to avoid overwriting by CoM Forge items
- Fixed corrupted icons for CMLEAT5.ITM (GRNLEAT.BAM) and MACMXB01.ITM (BLKXBOW.BAM)
- Added unidentified (standard) texts for all items
- Standardized item descriptions and punctuation
- Corrected descriptions to reflect actual item statistics
- Added names to mithril axes (Blizzard and Wildfire) to distinguish them (otherwise identically named)
- Added unique BAMs to magical large shields to distinguish them (otherwise identical looking)
- Swapped speed/weight values for katana and large katana (latter was faster and lighter)
- Added Ring of the Mage-Priest to Sorcerous Sundries and Shaldrissa (was previously unavailable)
- Added Large Shield +3 to Prime (previously unavailable)
- Added optional nerf to balance items more closely for BG1 standards

Regardless, this installation does not fit the definition of Mega Mod, so I'm not moving this topic for the time being.

Thanks for all the informations. It looks like that White Agnus has not get in contact with you, yet. I think, he has much to do at the moment. We don't know, too. To clarify this, we need Orm's change-log's first.I'm still confused whether this crash is due to Dark Horizons or something else. Could someone clarify?

I don't know what a change-log is????
Another problem I have is that one of my grandsons (yes, I'm that old) was playing on the computer and wiped out my entire BG folder.....therefore, I don't have anything recorded.

Though if your game is gone now, I guess that won't help much unless you run into it again. Also, you can try opening a command prompt to your game (Start > Run > cmd) then type:
cd c:\games\bgt (or wherever your game is) weidu --change-log ar6801.are weidu --change-log ar6801.bcsThen see which mods affected the area and its script.
