No unique name unfortunately, (invisible, talking) Ogre Mage. I installed Near Infinity, there's about 10 ogre mages. I wondered if I could find him by the loot he has. So I reloaded an old save ( a little choppy), the woods just before entering the mine (lets call it save1). Then I rushed (picked no items) to the level with the ogre mage, game got choppy as hell again, but what? Killing ogre mage didn't help (I can swear it did the first time). False alarm I thought, maybe I overlooked something. Killed everyone on that level. Didn't help. I saved the game (lets call it save2), went mad and started killing my party, starting with Minsc and Viconia. Voila, the game was smooth again. But not just that, I loaded save1 - smooth, loaded save2 - smooth. After BG2 reset save1 - choppy, save 2- choppy. Killing Minsc and Viconia did the magic again.

I will look into it later, and I will try this. I just wanted to let anyone know not to bother with Ogre Mage.

P.S.: I thought the game resources are cleared upon loading..

Oh, when you run into this Ogre Mage, if you have your cheat keys enabled, use Ctrl-M. It will give you the filename. :)

I have a problem with installing, right at the start of big world install.bat when it checks for 25movies.bif, I have this file in my D:\BGII - SoA\cd5\movies directry (which btw wasn't the default folder name for polish version of the game, the game was originally installed in D:\Baldur's Gate II and then renamed as to BGII - SoA and baldur.ini was edited) and it says that don't have the 26498 patch which I don't belive exists for a polish version. Also the name check fails and I am sure the forlder is named correctly.

I got the itch to play the BG series again and came across all these interesting mods that I never knew existed when looking for a way to play BG1 with the BG2 engine. Obviously, I'm new to all this. I'm trying to install all the mods and followed the instructions in the original post. I'm running into an issue though (Standard-version installation):

About a dozen or so mods did not download. For most of them, I was able to download them manually with 3 exceptions. This is what I have left in the window now:

The following mod(s) could not be downloaded:
Manual: The Mod itself (Manual)
BG1 Missing Files v2: The Mod itself (Manual)*
BGT NPC Portraits v1.6: The Mod itself (BGT_NPC_PORTRAITS_V1.6.rar)
*Cannot proceed installation without this essential mod.

When I try to manually download the first 2, I get a windows error: Windows cannot find 'manual'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the start button, and then click search.

The 3rd mod takes me to a webpage, but not directly to a file. It looks like a German site, but from what I can gather, that mod is now on v1.7.

The installation appears to be stuck since one of the mods I couldn't download is essential. I get this when I try to cancel:

Please fetch the mods that are marked as essential first.
Aborting the installation.

Anyone know how I can get past this?

Thanks,

Martin

There is a new BWP version coming out soon announced by Leomar in the post 270 of this thread :
"In general:

Since the last BWP release there were 63 new mod-versions released with changes which make the current BWP version unstable. At the moment we're at a point that you have to much changes to do, to get a good megamod running. Therefore if you want to do a new BWP installation I recommend to wait for the next BWP version.

Greetings Leomar "

So it would be best to wait for it :) .

@Guest:
Create the file BG2-ToBPatchReadMe.txt in your BG2-folder

@:Martin
The downloads are:
http://www.shsforums...t...st&id=15886
http://www.shsforums...d...load&id=534
http://www.rosenrank...ion=mods;dl=188

The first two did not react at first, but after I tried to view the forum, both are available to me.
The third has been updated and edited, so for this one you need to edit the batch, skip it or wait for the new version of BWP.

After installing all these mods, is it possible to continue with my save game after a newer version of BWP is released? Or do I have to start from the begining?

Thanks.

The simple answer, yes, you have to restart a new game...

Hey Leomar, in case you missed it I have gotten a new thread for my NPC list. I noticed that there was a link to the old thread in the current guide, so I thought I should make sure to inform you.

I'm currently in the process of updating it with every NPC mod I can find that is missing. If by any chance you know of any that I am missing please feel free to let me know as I would appreciate it. :D

Ok, I guess better wait for the next version of BWP (v8?) before starting a new game.

Anyone know if it's close to completion?

Yes, I saw it and thanks for the information. By the way, you do a really good job here.

Anyone know if it's close to completion?

Only to let you know, that we had much work to get the new BWP version together and running like it should. The most work is done, but we have some more work to do. Like Jarno mentioned, the version is ready, when its ready. :)

By the way, the next version will be available in Englisch, German and in Spanish. Clan REO did a great job to translate all the BWP stuff (guide, tools, BWS) and with the next version Spanish gamers can do an installation in Spanish with it, too.

Be patient. ;)

Greetings Leomar

This sounds great :)

This is particularly interesting.
Each time (not so much) I use BWS, I change the install.bat in order to change the language of some mods (when available). I make always the same modifications (as an example : bg2fixpack%L%0% --> bg2fixpack%L%4%).
Indeed, I can easily use "all the BWP stuff" in English. However, I prefer to play in my mother tongue (French) even if I had already played BG1&2 and a lot of mods in English.
I'm sure some guys do the same and other guys would like to play in French too.

So, is there a way I could do it once for all (all-time and all-people wanting to play in French) in a BWP version to come ?

Well, the solution for that would be quite easy: Translate the pdf-guide or at least the descriptions to french. :D

At least I do not think that Leonardo or Leomar would like to provide an install-pack that will install french and leave it out in the other tools, documentation and all that stuff.
If you would help to translate the BWS and the mods descriptions, it would be an extra-click to install all the mods that provide a french translation and leave all the other mods out.

Hmmm... I don't think that translating the pdf in French is so important since most people should use the BWS.
I don't know what you call "the descriptions", in fact, most mods providing French translation also provide French readme files.

I think that a French translation of BWS would be great, but, my first goal would be to allow the BWS let the user to install the French translation of mods (when available). translating the pdf-guide would not help at all !

I hope I am more understandable...

Ok. With "descriptions" I mean the strings/textblocks that tell you what the mod is about if you select a mod in the BWS. Those were taken from the pdf-guide when I created the tool. I am not 100% sure but I think mods will not show up if they do not have a translated description.
(This shows you a) that I did that some time ago and b) I really am lazy right now eating my meal. ;) )

This would make sense since you want your people to understand what they are installing if they customize their installation.

My idea is that there is a common list of components and mods that will be installed and the language-number that will be used for the weidu-setup will be taken from a language-specific "mod-file". So if you mix it all together, you get a unique install-string for the component, you will be able to leave out components in general or choose to leave out foreign mods and so on...

But to obtain that, I will have to write the code to do that first. ;) I must admit that I had a similar idea for a few days but did not start to code since I felt that I missed something and I did not want to start and create nonsense and start all over again a few days later. But since I do have some time to think while working in the garden, I now feel like a common solution could be available for mmmh, lets say BWS v10. So it will take a while and it will be done when it's done. :D

You are right, but translating the pdf guide is 200+ pages ! this is huge !

Hmmm... if I understand well, you imagine two files, one that describe which language is available for each mod and another one that describe which component should be installed for each mod.
I think it will work in 99% cases, but when editing the install.bat I discovered that some components are not installed the same way in German an in English :
%IFES%bg2fixpack%S%bg2fixpack%L%0%SK% 0 1 3 100 101 102 103 104 106 107 108 109 110 111 112 113 114 | %M%
%IFGS%bg2fixpack%S%bg2fixpack%L%3%SK% 0 3 100 101 102 103 104 106 107 108 109 110 111 112 113 114 | %M%
The component 1 is not installed in German (only in English if i remember well). So I guess it will be more complex than that.

But to obtain that, I will have to write the code to do that first. ;) I must admit that I had a similar idea for a few days but did not start to code since I felt that I missed something and I did not want to start and create nonsense and start all over again a few days later. Well anyway, I couldn't imagine these changes to be included before BWS v9, so, this is just one step more
When, you have done the "technical part" (I understand that it can take long), I will be happy to help for the "French translation part"

Well, I would say that as the English .PDF file has a few missed numbers in the start, that the Germans corresponding component to the Fixpacks component is actually already installed in the corrections phase... as they apparently weren't all happy with all the translation... (long history) ... so the Fixpacks component is not actually installed.

What I would suggest for you Fouinto is to contact all the non-French-translated mod coders and force the issue that you wish to translate their mod to French.
But first; make a list of all the mods that have been translated already.

The component 1 is a fix-text only to English version, it's not neccesary to other installation (like German or Spanish).

@Fouinto: You are right that there are mods and components used here an there that are not used in other languages. But this can be simply solved by leaving out the description for the component, since those without one are not displayed.
So the common file says "always install - it's important" and the language file "overrides" that. Easy but effective.

The BWS itself does contain some text, too. I would guess that you have 17 pages for the BWS itself, maybe 18/19 when the install-stuff is build into it, and 6 to 7 pages for the mods descriptions. Some of that can be optained with copy and paste, others not or need to be shortened. The other stuff for the component itself can be fetched with a script, I already played with something like that a year ago. ;)
