BiG World Project (BWP) v7.0

If you made a backup with the BWS, check for the following files exist in the BiG World Clean Install folder: chitin.key, BGMain.exe, dialog(F).tlk and the data- and override-folder.
If the backup was successful before, they should be there.
Remove the weidu.log, the override and the data-folder from the main-directory and copy the content from BiG World Clean Install into the main directory (overwrite the existing files). This way, all is back to the old state before the installation and you can start the batch-installer again without using the BWS and doing the download/extraction.

I thought a partition of 25Gb would have been sufficient for my intents of a mega installation.. I was wrong!
I installed only XP and the 2 BG games (I had like 13Gb of free space left on the partition after that)... but mods installation continued to suck and suck Mbs until i ran out of space... BAH!
Today i will retry with a partitition of 50Gbs.... I hope they are enough at this time!!
I have a last question for you (by the way, really thanks for the patience !! ), because I'm starting to understand how it works
Since I have BG1 3 cd version, when BW asks me to install the latest update 5512, may I i skip it (the game should be updated already), or do i have to install the 5512 update?
Thanks again to alll of you for the hints and for BWS !!
EDIT: many mods are newer than the ones checked by BWS. could you explain plz how to modify the script to include them?

Mods are newer: Oh, what do you mean? Do you have an example? Some mods are not compartible when the current version is installed (like NEJ2).
If you mean the download-link itself, this should be updated by an aumatic update by fetching a file from the Kerzenburg (one of the other big forums that are used "by" the BWP). Ask Leomar to update this file if there are faults.
Or do you mean the text in the BWS?
If you really want to edit the downloads yourself, you will have to disable the automatic link-updates first.
Open and "remove" the line 18 from the executed code by adding a semicolon at the beginning.
; _Net_LinkUpdate(0+3)
Then open Big World Setup\Config\Mod.ini. Every Mod has it's own section that is named after the setup-name of the mod, so you find BGT under [setup-bgt.exe]. You find everything related to the mod itself in this section.

mods are newer: i found the link updater.
by the way, when it unpacks the various mods into SoA folder, it doesnt want to unpack NPC_Tweak-v3.1.exe mod, but then it asks if i want to do it manually. If I say yes, it load the exe file, and a DOS window appears starting to do something for a long time (dont know if it is biffing or such). Is that the correct behaviour or i just have to unpack the file into SoA directory?
This because the second attempt of mega installation just failed because, after i did many checks to see that evverything was fine, BW has found during installation at one point many missing files and so many mods haven't been installed correctly.
I've chosen this time "tactics" mod and i have downloaded all the needed files minus ascension, region of terror, nej and some NPCs.
I am missing something but i don't know what
I'm starting to ponder to make a manual installation, I simply am not able to use BWS apparently
For example, can big picture and other tactical mods ( listed in the section no. 12 of BWS manual, page 53) be installed after i complete a "recommended" installation with BW? So i install few mods at start, minimizing the risks of errors, and then i complete the installation with other mods i'd like to use. Is that possible?

What files are/were missing? Can you give an overview of the mods that were affected?

I.
After running BWS and it started the install.bat everything went cold at the following line, see the picture (stops during weidu update, pid=-1).
By Jarno Mikkola:
Well, you just have to wait a while(it can take hours) or delete the setup-contain.exe, copy the WeiDU.exe to the same directory and rename it as setup-contain.exe, and restart the install.bat...
Or you could just copy the WeiDU.exe from here this (Windows Binary) archive, and delete all the other setup-modnames.exe's, and then just copy the WeiDU.exe over and over to the same directory it is, and then rename them all according to the setup-*modname*.tp2's, and be done with the fact...
II.
After using BWS for extracting my mods .... Vildra mod didn't extracted correctly ... the files are in "BGII - SoA\Vildra" folder not in "BGII - SoA" folder and big world install.bat is blinded
By Leomar:
O.K. I see this mod is poor packed. All other wrong packed mods will be extracted correctly with the BWS, but Vildra is different in this case. Thanks for your information. This issue will be fixed soon.
You need only to put the files from this subfolder into the BG2 main directory before you start the Install.bat.
III.
I got a problem .... now I am at the point where generalized biff mod is doing his work and I opened "BGII - SoA\override" folder and there I found another "override" folder with wav's of CespyAudioV1.zip(maybe a bad unpack of BWS)...
After install is done, to solve this, I think I can move the wav's from "BGII - SoA\override\override" folder to "BGII - SoA\override" and they remain unbiffed
By Leomar:
Yes, this is at the moment the easiest and correct working solution.
IV.
Also in my new BWP v7 install, some characters like Gorion, Elminster, Sarevok have no portraits. Is that intended? Because i remember from my previous install that they had some awesome portraits...
By Jarno Mikkola and White Agnus:
So there could be something wrong within the mods coding, for example, the coding can might have changed, or your file isn't in the presumed directory, aka the Mönchs.bmp being in: <insert the game directory>/NSC Portraits/TDB/
The Error should be bred by the special letter ö in the picture Mönchs.bmp (The german translation for monk...)
I have informed the author, about this problem.
No solution yet.
V.
the BiG World Clean-Up will remove BiG_World_Debug.txt.
By new(Mike):
BiG_World_Debug.txt will be found in BGII-SoA directory.
if you want to see the BiG_World_Debug.txt,you should copy it from BGII-SoA directory to another place before you run "the BiG World Clean-Up".
By Leomar:
Hmmm, I've heard, that this is not true. If you use the "BiG World Clean-Up.bat", then the "BiG World Debug.txt" is moved to the new readme files folder, where you fid all the setup-mod.DEBUG's.
VI.
i find the content of _delete in the folder of "BiG World Fixpack\bg1adventure\_depends\BGT" is
"creatures\GORF.CRE
creatures\BGSKELWA.CRE"
By new(Mike):
i think the last should be "creatures\SKELWA.CRE"
VII.
After every 3-4 mods installs, widescreen setup would start and do "some stuff". Like in infinite loop. Is it normal ?
By Leomar:
No, don't put the extracted Widesceen mod into the BG2 directory. Only you have run the Install.bat and finished your installation you should install it. If you use the "BiG World Setup", download the Widescreen mod with it, too and if the Install.bat starts, close it. Delete the setup-widescreen.exe in the BG2 directory and run the Install.bat again. After the installation is finished, rename the WeiDU.exe in the BG2 directory to setup-widescreen.exe and start it to install the Widescreen mod.
Here is the reason why you must do this:
http://forums.gibber...showtopic=16949
VIII.
Demivrgvs has released the "Revised Grandmastery".
You can get it here:
http://forums.gibber...showtopic=17307
IX.
By Chevalier:
I see you changed setup-NEJ2Biffer.tp2 so that it would not auto start setup-NeJ2.exe (I understand this is for your install.bat). You might think to put a note about it in the BiG_World pdf so those few of us who still use manual install can remove the '\\' on the last line.
X.
By Chevalier:
Demivrgvs confirmed that the changes listed in the readme to familiars are in the current version, there are more changes coming in v3 that are not yet part of the Hot fixes. I think most likely that it would be best that Authentic Fairy Dragon be installed after Spell Revisions.
XI.
Now that White Agnus' version of Dark Horizons for BGT is out when in the install is it best to install? Wondering about overwriting that might still be going on. unsure.gif My first impulse is to install it just before DSotSC.
By Miloch:
It does still overwrite, at least the Harder Enemies component (originally of BG1 Adventure) which was not changed to patching. Ascension64 and I had the toughest time rewriting that component as I recall - everything else was easy by comparison. So the earlier the better (or just don't install that component). Otherwise you may wipe out items and other changes mods have made to those CREs.
XII.
BG1_Adventure cause game crashed in the Durlag Tower.
By Leomar (after Miloch's explanation):
At the moment the only thing what we can do to avoid this problem is, that I update the BWS for this case. The mod is shown as Standard-mod in the BWS and we'll change it, so the mod is shown as Expert-mod only [ DONE ]. Like I've told, we'll remove this mod from the BWP, so that this will never been happen again. Sorry again for the circumstances.
XIII.
when i do the quest of "Return to Nashkel ", i can't find any enemy in the map of AR4403. therefore the quest can't be finished.
i think this problem caused by CoM_Forge.
By Creepin:
Confirming this, CoM Forge overwrites AR4403.bcs. Perhaps it should be recommended to install CoM Forge before The Vault until Dark Horizons compatibility will be worked out.
XIV.
By Creepin:
Good lord, heavy lag in Waukeens I was talking about few posts ago completely gone after I've chatted with Hubelpot and accepted him in a party. I have no idea what was that in Hubelpot mod that overloaded Waukeen's script such horribly, but now I'm enjoying perfectly smooth gameplay. It seems Jarno Mikkola was correct about some quest being the source of lag, but I had no idea that simpe NPC mod could be the cause, or perhaps it was some unforseen interaction of Hubelpot NPC with othe custom contet that resulted in mentioned lag.
XV.
when Jaheria join the group she gets -100, -333 experience. Is this normal?
By Jarno Mikkola:
Yeah, cause you have either the Level 1 NPCs, or SCS script in use that increase or lowers the NPCs set XP so it's closer to the Player Characters current XP amount.
XVI.
I'm trying to restore the BG2 exp bonuses for learning spells, undoing locks and disarming traps, but whenever I try to reinstall the component (From BGTTweaks), it screws up my game a bit, and NPC portraits go missing, as well as their sound. Can anyone help me with this?
By Jarno Mikkola:
I wouldn't go an uninstall any component such as this... cause it's too far from the bottom of the WeiDU.log, instead, if you wish to restore the original once, just copy this (http://iesdp.gibberl...tob/xpbonus.htm) from the line:
2DA V1.0
forwards to a .txt file, and then save the file as "xpbonus.2da", without the .txt extension, and move it to the "override" folder.
XVII.
i try BWP 7.0 instalation and have problem with missing 25movies.bif, i have this file already in CD5/Movies but ican not continue
By Fouinto:
I had this problem because I had installed BG2 in a directory named "BG2". From what I have seen, BWP ask us to use "BGII - SoA" as the install directory. So, I had renamed this directory to"BGII - SoA". I had this error until I change baldur.ini accordingly.
So, open the baldur.ini file, and check that lines beginning with "HD0:=", "CD1:=", "CD2:=", "CD3:=", "CD4:=" and "CD5:=" match your installation path.
XVIII.
Today i noticed a new area "Bluebell wood" i try and travel to it. The game crashes. With the following error
By Leomar:
The error you described is that the tiz file not getting unpacked and thus the tileset missing from the area that caused the game to freeze. But all problems you described sounds for a bad installation you have made and the culprit could be Vista. Please follow the advices which the BWS gives you about the "User Account Control" and to install your games not in the "program files" folder.
XIX.
After discussing the issue with Haiass not following the main character out of Candlekeep Inn in it's thread, it seems that the problem is caused by something not done correctly during the BWP install process. Miloch says that somehow an old version of Haiass is installed, that somehow has some new features added by him, except the resurrection feature that has to be selected during the install from two options... I suspected that maybe the unpacking had some problems since I have in my Big World Downloads the old Haiass version and the new one, and I thought that maybe the old version is unpacked over the new one. Any idea what's going on?
By Miloch:
I checked the latest BWS and it does indeed appear to still get the v2.0. If you don't have the latest patch, then you get the v1.2. However, even if you downloaded Haiass v2.1 and replaced it, you will be screwed with the BiG World "Fixpack" because it overwrites setup-haiass.tp2 with an old version mad.gif. They really should not do this at all, and certainly not for mods that are still being maintained. It is possible to patch TP2s anyway, based on whether certain text is found in it. In addition, it appears to patch or overwrite some scripts and dialogue which should not be necessary with the new version - they should reverse all that.
By Leomar:
The BWS downloads the correct v2.1, but you must do the following for yourself if you want to use the new version with the current BWP version:
1.) edit the Install.bat to add one of the both new components of Haiass
%IFES%Haiass%S%Haiass%L%0%SK% 0 10 | %M%
%IFGS%Haiass%S%Haiass%L%2%SK% 0 10 | %M%
2.) move in the Install.bat the line of Haiass at the end of chapter 21
%IFGS%ACBre_V4%S%ACBre_V4%L%0%SK% 2 --logapp | %M%
%IFXES%ACBre_V4%S%ACBre_V4%L%0%SK% 2 --logapp | %M%
%IFES%Haiass%S%Haiass%L%0%SK% 0 10 | %M%
%IFGS%Haiass%S%Haiass%L%2%SK% 0 10 | %M%
3.) delete the whole folder Haiass in the "BiG World Fixpack" directory

Also I've found the following problems:
1. After running the clean-up.bat, it also deletes the language.txt, so the BGConfig utiliti can't be started anymore.
2. The install.bat doesn't include the Imoen mod during the modcheck (but it installs correctly).
There was an Imoen mod related problem too, where the xm2wav conversion utility wouldn't run on 64 bit operating systems, thus hanging the installation with a eroor message. My solution to this is extracting the music files from the Imoen*v12.rar\ImoenRom\Music\ folder, converting them (*.xm and *.ogg too) manually eg. by WinAmp, then copy the wav files to the override directory before BWP installation. I haven't tested this yet, but theoretically because the correct music files are in the override dir when the mod installs it won't start the conversion at all, so the installation won't stop.

PS.: Many thanks for BWP and BWS, it's great.

I guess you have the Widescreen-Mod and WeiDU-Installer is doing its auto-update-thingy. The last line you see are about something like [Weidu-backup] and nothing happens after that. Close the black window with its runnning weidu-setup and everthing is all right. Do not select to install anything at this point, this will be break the order of the mods that has to be kept like mentioned in the guide.
What files are/were missing? Can you give an overview of the mods that were affected?
I unchecked widescreen mod, so that was not the problem. What is this "auto-update-thingy" of weidu-installer?
Unfortunately anyway, i have already uninstalled all and just reinstalled BG and BG2. Now i will try again with a "recommended" installation (why it doesnt include SoS, TDD and CtB?), and i'll list all the mods i'd like to install. We'll see if i am able to do this thing or i should just give up...

As the WeiDU.exe is the installer that installs all the mod files, it needs updating time to time, to add features etc. new things, and so the installers named as setup-*modname*.exe are some version of WeiDU.exe... now, the program has build in system to auto-update itself and all the other setup- files before the mod is installed... this is to prevent version incompatibilities...What is this "auto-update-thingy" of weidu-installer?

Yes, it happend a lot since the last BWP release. If you want an easy and safe installation, then you should wait for the next release.I'd like to start a new playthrough, but as I see a lot of errors/bugs have appeared since the last update. Would it be better if I waited for the next version or it will take a lot of time for that to be released and should I play now?
The solution is the next BWP release. It would be really great if someone could gather all the presented solutions from the 200+ post into one.
All presented solutions are locally fixed/added/changed/etc. for the next release.
@ Haos
We don't need a check for mods which will be installed later. Why we should check it before? Widescreen has nothing to do with a fresh new clean installation. If so, it could also perform a compatibility check for widescren mod, which is heavily depending on bgmain.exe version.

The BWS is now updated for the new mod-version and you should use the newer one.The Stone of Askavar (TSoA) v1.4

It is always better to use the forums and open an own thread for your questions, because other gamers could have the same questions. Is there a chat channel where all the experienced mod people hang out? Because I have about a million questions I'd like to ask, but I don't feel like spamming the board with a million posts for every small question. Chat would be easier. Do you all have an irc channel?

Thanks for your spare time.Okay, I've done it. Maybe this will be useful to someone (for me it is ).
This will be done with the Install.bat next time. We hate such WeiDU update problems and this will be solved with the next BWP release.I. After running BWS and it started the install.bat everything went cold at the following line, see the picture (stops during weidu update, pid=-1).
This problem is solved, because the new version is released and the BWS use the new version.II. After using BWS for extracting my mods .... Vildra mod didn't extracted correctly ... the files are in "BGII - SoA\Vildra" folder not in "BGII - SoA" folder and big world install.bat is blinded
This will be solved with the next BWP release.III. I got a problem .... now I am at the point where generalized biff mod is doing his work and I opened "BGII - SoA\override" folder and there I found another "override" folder with wav's of CespyAudioV1.zip(maybe a bad unpack of BWS)...
Here we must wait for the next version of BGT-NPC-Portraits.IV. Also in my new BWP v7 install, some characters like Gorion, Elminster, Sarevok have no portraits. Is that intended? Because i remember from my previous install that they had some awesome portraits...
This is no problem. You will find all txt-files in the "readme" folderV.the BiG World Clean-Up will remove BiG_World_Debug.txt.
Not important anymore. Don't use BG1 Adventure.VI. i find the content of _delete in the folder of "BiG World Fixpack\bg1adventure\_depends\BGT" is
"creatures\GORF.CRE
creatures\BGSKELWA.CRE"
Like point 1, this will be solved with the Install.bat of the next BWP release.VII. After every 3-4 mods installs, widescreen setup would start and do "some stuff". Like in infinite loop. Is it normal ?
Not tested yet and we'll not use it separately. We wait for the release of "Kit Revisions", where the "Revised Grandmastery" will be included.VIII. Demivrgvs has released the "Revised Grandmastery".

Don't install the component "Harder Enemies" at the moment. The component overwrite files and do not patching them. White Agnus is working on a more compatible Dark Horizons version at the moment.XI. Now that White Agnus' version of Dark Horizons for BGT is out when in the install is it best to install? The BWS give you hints about that, too.XVII. i try BWP 7.0 instalation and have problem with missing 25movies.bif, i have this file already in CD5/Movies but ican not continue
You find the file in the readme folder.1. After running the clean-up.bat, it also deletes the language.txt, so the BGConfig utiliti can't be started anymore.
Thanks. We correct it.2. The install.bat doesn't include the Imoen mod during the modcheck (but it installs correctly).
Yes, this is a problem for Vista64 users. We'll look how we solve this issue. There was an Imoen mod related problem too, where the xm2wav conversion utility wouldn't run on 64 bit operating systems, thus hanging the installation with a eroor message. @ Gaspare
In the Recommend-version is only one big BG1 mod (DSotSC) and only one big BG2 mod (TDD). If you want more of the big mods you must add them. Now i will try again with a "recommended" installation (why it doesnt include SoS, TDD and CtB?)
This will be fixed with the next NPCTweak version.by the way, when it unpacks the various mods into SoA folder, it doesnt want to unpack NPC_Tweak-v3.1.exe mod, but then it asks if i want to do it manually.

Hi congratulations on the new(ish) release!
I've got a couple questions about things I'm not too sure on.
1. I choose Standard install (liking this auto install program already), do I have to download any mods or do I get the choice eventually to pick and choose which ones I want off the program? ie Do I have to go here http://www.kerzenbur...ead.php?t=34931 to get any/all the mods? I'm a little confused as to what is installed for standard.
2. If I do have to download mods seperately where do I unpack them and do I do this before running the standard install or after?
3. Lastly to tie in a bit with question one, do you have a listing of what mods are added to the game with each different install?
Sorry if this has been covered, but I couldn't find any of the answers or comprehend if I did.
Thanks in advance.
EDIT:
Ok I progressed a little further and it seems I have come to the second phase of the program (the first was downloading?).
Anyways, I get to choose between Standard, Tactic, and expert. Naturally I choose expert since I have relatively no idea what I am doing. It gives me two lists those to be installed, and those not (about this time I find the pdf which is a godsend).
So basically now I'm curious (as it all installs) because I choose standard in phase 1 it downloaded all the mods that are fairly compatible with each other, so what I dont understand is the effect of choosing expert in phase 2? It seems to be automatically (without any prompts so far) to be installing all the listed mods.
In a nutshell I'm wondering is everything going ok or have I fubar'd my install?
P.S. I downloaded and installed Romantic encounters (accidently) before BWP. Will this be a problem later on or will some of the encounters simply be overridden by BWP? Checking the pdf everything was a greenlight (about time I get a real reward from Bodhi

When you start the real installation process (DOS window), I think you have to choose the same kind of install you did chose early ("standard" in your case). If you choose "expert" I think you will have 100% a faulty install because BW will try to install mods that you haven't downloaded before ("expert" contains more mods than "standard"). This unless you download and unpack into SoA main folder missing mods that fit into "expert" group.
This if i have understood correctly what's the purpouse of BWS of course...
I'm trying too to make a big install, but i want to make an "hybrid" one using "recommended" setting in BWS and adding some "tactics" mods that i'm interested on. But so far i've had many problems with the various checks (some mods are not correctly recognized for some reason i don't understand) so I will wait for the next release of BWS that should contain links for updated version of mods and improvements to the whole process.
In the mean time, i wanna really thank the creators of this project, i know it is really difficult to make all things work together so just thanks for all the efforts put into it !!!

Yeah, what's does it do... Hm. Did you read the project-page or the BWS introduction in this forum?
It says that it downloads and extracts the files. It does not say that it is capable of editing the Batch-file. There are just too many things that can go wrong. Example: You select the xp-mod. This mod has a few components from which you can select one -- if I tell the batch-installer to install this mod, you will run into some problems. Same goes for the nej2-collection and so on.
When the BWS was started, these problems did not exist since there were no such things like predefined collections and the BWS was even able to edit the old format properly -- but was not able to select between multiple-choice-components.
That is why we need to create new "structures" that the BWS can handle and adjust in a consistent way.
This will take some time. And that's the reason why the BWS seems to be inconsistent with the batch-file.

I don't think that's the case, but correct me if I am wrong. I am always selecting the expert mode during the batch install, simply because that installs every mod I have properly extracted into the SoA folder. That way I don't have to worry about a mod I wanted but forget that it's tactical for exapmle.
Bottomline, you can chosse your mods in BWS, where they are neatly organized by install order and colored by install type, it also checks for dependencies and aquire the correct versions from the net + extracts them the right way, then you can simply select expert during the actual install and it will do what you intended in the first place.
PS.: the linklist is perfect for people like me because I have a net connections that sucks big time, the adsl always disconnects, so it's easier for me to actually download the mods with a download manager, then I can use the BWS to check if the files are all right and extract them.
PS2.: the next version of the BWS should start the install.bat with admin rights if that is possible.

Best example is scs. A minor collection is installed in recommanded, but some of those components are left out since the "harden" the game too much for a traditional gamer. One is left out since the enemies had a crush on leaving infinite bottles on the floor.
So: If you do not mind that, this is the easy way to go. Otherwise you will have to do some work yourself.

That's true, you can always select Expert and everything will be installed as desired. The only "drawback" of this is that all the components are installed. Those that are knows to be buggy, those with tactic hardship...

You are right, that didn't occur to me at all.
From now on, I will keep it in mind when I install the megamod.
