when i do the quest of "Return to Nashkel ", i can't find any enemy in the map of AR4403. therefore the quest can't be finished.
i think this problem caused by CoM_Forge.

Confirming this, CoM Forge overwrites AR4403.bcs. Perhaps it should be recommended to install CoM Forge before The Vault until Dark Horizons compatibility will be worked out.

After farting around for several hours to get BwP installed, I finally managed to get a nice stable result. Only problem is that in order to do so, I had to leave out Widescreen Mod and Generalized biffing out of the initial install using BwP Setup.

Now that I've got the install done, I'm reasonably sure I have to run first Generalized biffing using the Bwp guide.pdf as instructions (It says copy setup.generalized.exe and the biffing folder itself to the main SoA directory, the run the setup).

I then get to the part of the file where it asks to Install component, I select option 1 for all files, the it appears that the file starts to execute. Unfortunately, it looks like it's hanging somehow. It creates 1 directory, begins copying 1 file, and then just sits there and does nothing else.

I can live without the Widescreen mod, it would be nice but not critical. The biffing though I definitely need, as the lag and stuttering ingame is terrible.

Do I just need to wait a loooooong time for the setup.exe to finish?

Right? :whistling:
Yes, as it's biffing the game files. It's said that the mod installation can take 2 hours... but believe me, it's better than the lag you would get during the game.

I'm just started BG2 part of the game and lag in Waukeen's and circus is pretty heavy despite of all the biffing. It wasn't so noticeable in Chateau Irenicus, so I believe it's generated by game scripts, not something that could be easily cured by biffing. Is there something I could do to alleviate this issue?

Is there something I could do to alleviate this issue?

Set the game up right from the start and complete the quests etc.

1. Always patch the game(s) with the latest patch, start a new game and exit after the game has auto-saves itself(so you have to make a char or choose a pre-made one), before you do any moding, and you might as well make a safe backup from the important files: data and override folders, baldur.exe, BGMain.exe, dialog.tlk and CHITIN.key, in the unmoded game this should take about 960 to 1020 MB's, depending on how the computer counts it.
2. Put the ambient sounds off from the BGConfic.exe, as some of the areas might have no ambient sounds and so the game tries to start them many time continuously, and so looses processing power.
3. Don't mess with the game configurations so the speed adjustment percentages stay on "normal" ratings even if you have very high end machine, as the game has own it's internal fps counter, it sometimes tries to correct the fps on it's own by lowering graphs etc. Also the games frame rate should be set to about 30, as that's the default.
4. I wouldn't recommend to install any of the speaking item mods, as they run their scripts and fire their comments everywhere, and that's bad for the fps(frames/second count).
5. Inventory management(no stacks that have more than about 200 items, in a bag, arrows etc.), -might also help. And do not carry too many bags of holding and the like storage items.
6. Trying to avoid too many effects on a character(about 20 is fine, 200 is too many, and 20 000 is way way too many...)
7. De-fragmenting your hard drive might also help... as you don't have to go find the data in the pieces. (hmm, there is a joke in there, hih)
8. Before installing the mods, plan the exact order, so they are in correct order, and make sure if you uninstalled the game that you deleted the old mod files, the data and override folders(don't go and overwrite them) so you can start from a clean install, so there is no leftovers from old mods.
9. Helpful links for Tutu and BGT(the English and German .pdf files) -based Megamods.
10. Take note that you should have done all the points 1-9 before you install any mods! But you should be able to do it still, with few alterations.
---
11. And when you have installed all the mods you are going to, it might be a good idea to biff your override folder, but do that knowing that you generally can't change the game much after. The easiest way to do this is to use the End_biff from here, or the more modern Generalized Biffing.
12. Repeat the step 7 again, if you think it might help.
13. When you quit the game, delete all the files from the Cache folder, if the game even puts any files in there. This might cause a little loading time increase, but it is worth it.
---
14. Complete all the quests you are given, as in a long game, some scripts that are looking IF you have this-or-that quest active, will be screaming and causing lags, if their checks are in global category and used all the time... it can be very bad.

Maybe this should be pinned somewhere too...

2. Put the ambient sounds off from the BGConfic.exe, as some of the areas might have no ambient sounds and so the game tries to start them many time continuously, and so looses processing power.

This has been bugging me for a while. Someone ought to do something about it (*clickety-click*).

BUT_ONLY
It would appear someone has done something about it, on BGT/BWP at least. Because when I ran that code on BWP (5.0 or something I think), I only came back with the following:

Nonexistent sound AM0011A5 at offset 2156 of area AR0083 cleared.
Nonexistent sound AM0011A5 at offset 1068 of area AR0084 cleared.
Nonexistent sound AM0011A5 at offset 2544 of area AR8051 cleared.
Nonexistent sound ARPO05 at offset 4320 of area ARPO05 cleared.
Nonexistent sound ARPO05N at offset 4532 of area ARPO05 cleared.
Nonexistent sound at offset 4660 of area TT3001 cleared.

Either that, or my code is wrong, which is a distinct possibility. On the other hand, I came back with a couple dozen or so bogus ambients on vanilla Tutu, so it should be useful for that at least.

Now, I don't know if there is an issue with having "no" ambients as opposed to invalid ones. If the former, we may need tougher code to delete the entire ambient block that has no sound, or perhaps find valid alternative ambients.

Good lord, heavy lag in Waukeens I was talking about few posts ago completely gone after I've chatted with Hubelpot and accepted him in a party. I have no idea what was that in Hubelpot mod that overloaded Waukeen's script such horribly, but now I'm enjoying perfectly smooth gameplay. It seems Jarno Mikkola was correct about some quest being the source of lag, but I had no idea that simpe NPC mod could be the cause, or perhaps it was some unforseen interaction of Hubelpot NPC with othe custom contet that resulted in mentioned lag.

Basically, when one gets hurt by a stutter bug he should try http://www.shsforums...showtopic=33937. Except maybe it's better to use 'COPY_EXISTING_REGEXP GLOB ~.*\.bcs~ ~override~' instead.

Retired from modding.

Hello, I successfully installed a BG2 only mega-installation and am generally playing through with few problems. However, I have found that Mae'var's dialogue is broken for me. When meeting him the second dialog option that threatens him led to the dialogue breaking and his having nothing to say to me, while option 1 was fine for continuing. Then, once I brought him a statuette from the Lathander temple he would not recognise that I had done so, and repeatedly asked if he thought that he was speaking kobold! Any ideas? I don't mind too much but I'd played through tutu with Edwin so it'd be nice to get him before the Fate Spirit offers him!

@ Icendoan

In other news, I can't seem to install TDD, as it requires a BGT script (ARAM00.bcs). This is because, as far as I can tell, TDD is being installed before BGT.

Have you installed TDD now and how?

Anyway, "big world isntall.bat" has installed everything with full administrator rights over the course of the night, but it is hanging on setup-banterpack.exe, and has been for several hours now.
This is something like the huge Weidu WSM had, except it is an earlier version. (20600)
I have restarted the bat, and removed all mod entries that are currently installed (so I don't have to install/uninstall them all), and it is still hanging at the same place.
Any thoughts?

Have you solved this problem meanwhile? If not, have you started the setup-banterpack.exe without the Install.bat?

@ Eric P.

I've encountered a repeatable error that causes the game to crash to desktop due to an assertion failure. The problem is that a mod that affects some of the game areas (including the Docks District and the Trademeet inn) is causing this to happen: "CreatureSize==0". This results in the game crashing, and I can't pinpoint the offending mod without assistance, as I'm the greenest of green modders

Sorry that nobody could answer your question, but mostly of us uses a PC and with it the BWP tools.

I install all mods manually (meaning no scripts or batches or anything like that), and I haven't used any of the BiG World fixpack components or other such files, as I suspect they're not needed for my purposes (could be wrong here!).

Yes, you're wrong here. Without the BW Fixpack fixes you could have a lot of errors (depends on the mods you're using) which normally were be solved.

@ D.B.

I cannot get Finch and her glasses to identify anything! Even after 1+ days of resting, when I give her something to identify, the "Spell" and "Scroll" options are not selectable, only Cancel. Any advice appreciated!

Have you changed something in the Install.bat? We have got the same report in the German forum, but the gamer told us, that he has made changes into the Install.bat and after a reinstall without his changes all was fine.

@ Rabbi Satan

But I have a question - which mod can I install that will let me keep my items from BG1?

MTS Crappack first component does that, but it causes issues with a cutscene hang in Irenicus? Dungeon. Better follow Chevalier and Jarno's advices.

@ Mantis

However, I have found that Mae'var's dialogue is broken for me...

Please could you open a new thread and describe your problem there (you can copy/paste your written content) and don't forget to post your WeiDU.log again. It is better to discuss your problem in a new thread. Thank you.

Area Ambient Fixer
This has been bugging me for a while. Someone ought to do something about it (*clickety-click*).
...
It would appear someone has done something about it, on BGT/BWP at least. Because when I ran that code on BWP (5.0 or something I think), I only came back with the following:
...
Either that, or my code is wrong, which is a distinct possibility...
Now, I don't know if there is an issue with having "no" ambients as opposed to invalid ones. If the former, we may need tougher code to delete the entire ambient block that has no sound, or perhaps find valid alternative ambients.

Thanks for your feedback. We have nothing done about it in the past. I think we should try your code with a complete Expert-version to see the results.

A great big hello to the BWP team. First time using mods so I dunno what to expect, but I have a small suggestion for the install.bat. Although I'm no coder myself, I'm sure some of the great minds here can understand and hopefully implement the concept.
You see, most of the BWP is done by the BWS which lets you choose the mods and then the all important install.bat. After extraction, as the install.bat runs, there is always the possibility of and ERROR popping up in some mod (due to various factors, including download corruption) causing said mod to be not installed. But the install.bat, being a batch file goes on, installing all the mods after the ERRORed mod. This was especially a problem during the BWP v5.6 days when the NEJ package had a corrupt file that didn't allow part 1 to be installed. This led to a chain reaction that set Nej part 2 to not be installed as well. Consider such a scenario if the user has a corrupt BGT package, all the BG1 mods, and other dependancies would be wasted.
What I'm requesting is this - Can the install.bat check for mod install errors, and if possible pause/stop the install process till the user intervenes? Like I said, I know very little of batch coding but I reckon there could be a periodic check (probably before each mod is installed) of the console screen or the BiG World Debug.txt for the string "error" or something.
Hopefully this could save valuable time and hard disk reading/writing because rather than deleting the entire botched install, pasting a clean install and restarting the install.bat, the user can just delete the install lines of the mods already installed from the .bat, redownload the corrupt mod and restart the .bat to continue from where he left off.

Hello, this is my first time at BG Series, I decided to start playing with BWP. But I don't know this is some error while install process or background tweaks; when Jaheria join the group she gets -100, -333 experience. Is this normal?

Heya again guys :)

I'm trying to restore the BG2 exp bonuses for learning spells, undoing locks and disarming traps, but whenever I try to reinstall the component (From BGTTweaks), it screws up my game a bit, and NPC portraits go missing, as well as their sound. Can anyone help me with this?

Thanks :)

So i installed the BWP using recommended settings, about a week and a bit ago. I've dumped probably around 20-30 hours into the game so far. Today i noticed a new area "Bluebell wood" i try and travel to it. The game crashes. With the following error:

---------------------Start Logging Session---------------------

ASSERTION FAILED!
File: Infinity.cpp
Line: 1889

Exp: FALSE

Msg: Tile set ARS002 not found
Run Debugger?

Also some other random bugs:

1. Portraits for my PC during characther creation were messed up
2. Icons are missing for both spells/weapons
3. Almost no interparty banter of any kind

Now to think back on this i ran into a few issues:

1. When installing the NSIS packages an error message flashes briefly and then the window closed.
2. once it came to install the "mods" supposedly its supposed to open Big World Install.bat (something like that) well after leaving my computer for around an hour nothing happens. So i clicked exit and it launched the Big World Install.bat file. I then did the install, only to find there was no "recommended" install version. So i chose standard. It installed after an hour.

Also i just noticed my weidu.log file is empty. That isn't normal right?

So to hell with it. I am going to do a reinstall... again... using the "standard" install.

Can someone please clarify the following things:

1. Is this still valid? I noticed this in the installation guide:

2. SPECIAL CASE WINDOWS VISTA
1 Open the Start menu and write into the seach field "cmd.exe"
2. Right-click on "cmd.exe" and select in the context menu "Administrator"
3. A command line window opens.
4. Write into the line C:\Windows\system32> behind the arrow the directory where you had installed the
megamod: cd "\Program Files\Black Isle\BGII - SoA" and press Enter.
5. Then write into the line C:\Program Files\Black Isle\BGII - SoA> behind the error "BiG World
Install v6.bat" (the version number could have also changed) and press Enter.
Now the installation starts normally as also under other Windows operating systems.

Do i have to do this when installing using the BWP-setup?

2. Should i still be not installing widescreen mod via bwp-setup?

3. Once all the files are done downloading, and it says its ready to install do i click exit in Bwp-setup?

4. Any chance i can import my saved games?

5. Is there anything else i should do aside from following the install guide (which honestly for a idiots guide to installing, is not clear at all)

Please help before i lose it.

A problem with Dark Horizons the Vault Or a problem with Me?? I may have been looking for bugs where there are none!!! After looking into the dialog a bit more I think the options only show when I have an item that can be upgraded and not an option to 'see' if anything I have could be upgraded. :new_bottom:

My understanding is that it should include ComForge. ComForge is an item upgrade mod for the smithy in Beregost. I have installed Darl Horizons and there is no item upgrade option.

After looking into things more (and a hint from Miloch that it is not Dark Horizons) :(

ComForge is an item upgrade mod for the smithy in Beregost.

Eh... it is? The original mod put a new smith in the Friendly Arm (mathoren.cre - Thorengrim Hammerfist) as, it would appear, does the conversion of DH.
