I want to copy my BWP install from my desktop to my laptop so I can play on both comps and just move save files around. Is there a safe way to do this? Are there registry entries involved or files outside of the BG2 folder that I need to worry about?

Well, the fastest and safest way to do this is to install the games and patches to both computers and in the exact same directories and play the games so they auto-save after the character creation, then install the BWP(and the mods in it) in one of the computers and make sure the game works, and then link the computers up, move the not modified game(so you have a safe backup) to a backup directory and then copy the modified game to where it was.
(The backup won't work until you either move it back after you have deleted the modified game, or make changes to the baldur.ini and start it with the bgmain.exe, but that's besides the point...)

In fact the game can be safely copied to another computer. You just copy the whole your BWP folder where you need it. All you have to do after copying the files is to fix the CD1..CD5 entries in your baldur.ini file.

But it's always best to have the Windows InstallShield registration, so you don't have to start the game from the BGMain.exe, although, I always do it... as the baldur.exe just starts the game front end, and in that reads the Install, not Play.

Sorry if this is hijacking the thread, but I'm in a bit of a pickle, it would seem.

I'm currently on Erasmus in Spain, and as I didn't have a laptop at the time of leaving (it was still in production), I copied the Black Isle folder onto my external hdd, which I took with me. However, when trying to run bgmain.exe, I first get a "-1" error popup, and then an "assertion failed in ChDimm.cpp at line number 834."

Any help?

My girlfriend has access to the computer on which I installed the original, so I hope she'll be willing to help if necessary ^^

Edit: nevermind, it seems that changing the drive letters in baldur.ini was enough :) However, making this post not completely worthless: the stutter I experienced on my old pc (5 years and counting) seems to be present on this brand new dell studio xps as well... Oro?

Done all these? (Mini infopack to avoid lags v1.7.1) :whistling:
My guess is: not. Especially the:

2. Put the ambient sounds off from the BGConfig.exe, as some of the areas might have no ambient sounds and so the game tries to start them many time continuously, and so looses processing power.
