Thanks to everyone who sent me a PM about the problem; I've disabled the bot's account. The best thing you can do is follow Bluenose's good advice--just delete any messages from "mignulikz", and if you clicked the link I'd recommend running a virus/spyware scan just to ensure you didn't pick up any nasties.

I'll inform our technical guru (SConrad) of the issue ASAP, and with any luck he'll be able to do something more permanent about deleting the messages.

If anyone ever gets strange messages, please do let me know immediately, and I'll suspend the account of the spammer. Once again, thank you to everyone who informed me about the problem!

Same as Qwinn here. I go by the basic rule - if I don't know who they are, let alone give me an unsolicited link, into the trash it goes. I guess they figured it out before I opened it, because the PM said it was from "deleted member'. I got mine, however, on April 1st...

"kirkurial" is probably another spam PM'er. Uhh... is there plans to try to block them, like making it a bit harder for robots to register?

I also have a message from kirkurial, titled "Hello", that I haven't opened. Considereing I registered here 5 years ago and never post or read these forums anymore, and have gotten two mystery PMs, it's safe to assume it's a bot of some sort.

I saw that both PM's were links and just blocked and deleted them... Since I'm really not on these forums enough
to have made any friends and the PM's weren't by admins.. I was pretty sure they weren't ligit. I guess that's why so many sites have that 'read a word and type it into the box' thing to register now. Do you guys have that?.

On the bright side, the bots reminded me that this place existed. I was just about to go through and finally play all the IE games from start to finish for the first time. Can't count the number of times I did that with BG2, but never actually finished any of the others.

"Mignulikz" is now posting as "Kirkurial"; his 'personal messages' link to the same Russian website. Norton detected 2 or 3 tracking cookies that Mignulikz's link installed on my HD, but found nothing more serious.

It's called CAPTCHA, and yes, we have it. But CAPTCHA is not a fool-proof way to block bots as they can be cracked, and every once in a while something inevitably sneaks through.

At this point, there are a number of options we are considering in order to solve this problem.

It'd be great if mass PM's(to more than four/five people) were prohibited(technically blocked, I mean), yeah.

Then again, it brings people together! I saw posts from Seifer and Nightmare last week.
