Patterns made of small dots are flickering on my monitor (EIZO s2231W). I noticed that also on other LCDs.
Therefore I cannot play Infinity Engine-based games anymore!
I first noticed it in Icewind Dale 2
To see the problem, scroll the page, but I think You are arleady familiar to this issue.
In a past I played these games on CRT and now it is a real tragedy that I cannot play them anymore.
Do You know how to fix it?
I found patch removing Fog of War but it wants to be installed in a directory with a name already chosen and impossible to change, afair C:\Program Files\BGII-SoA.
Please help.

This should help in Windows XP(in Vista it's a bit more hard but do-able), just open the icewind.ini in the game directory, under the [Program Options] header, go to the line where it says: Display Frequency=X, change the number X to the default frequency of your display, save, exit and play the game... this doesn't work on BG1.Do You know how to fix it?

I have the same problem. I'm using Vista, display frequency is already 60 in icewind.ini, problem persists. I'm using a ATI card (X1600)
I've tried searching the forum even google, it seems no one has a solution to this. Can anybody help?
BTW, disable dx3D or lower hardware acceleration doesn't work either

I try recording the game while I was scrolling under 800x600. when i played the video in full size, the fog flashed like crazy, but as soon as i change the size to 50%, the flickering stopped.
Another thing worth mentioning is that fog of war in iwd 2 is formed by separate black dots, while in BG 2 it's real darkness.
I guess this problem has something to do with the way LCD presents images, and the problem could be solved by changing the fog to how it is in bg2. I don't know any anything about programming or modding, but since there's a patch to remove the fog entirely, making this mod may not be impossible. I'd really appreciate if anyone can do this!
This is what i see in the game. i don't know if FOW in IWD2 on your screen are like this, but on mine it surely is. (I made a screenshot and enlarged it in PS to make it more obvious)
This is what i meant how it should be to solve the problem
Edit:
turns out if i turn of 3d acceleration in bg2, the shadow become the same as in iwd2.
maybe the .dll patch made by eddy in the top post can solve this shadow issue, but since i'm not using a nvidia card, i can't find out. So i just want to ask those who had used eddy's patch in iwd2 and was playing on a LCD: was your fog dot by dot and flashing while you were scrolling?
Is not, i'd be thankful if someone can make a similar patch for ATI users. (it's so strange that no one seems to care about ati users, we actually have the same problem as you do...)
