Dear Spellholders!

I was wondering if anyone knew how to extract the nighttime area maps (the large AR#### files, not the small light map images) from the Infinity Engine games? I have used the Infinity Explorer application in the past, but it doesn't appear to be capable of this, only allowing you to view the daytime versions.

I ask as I'm working on updated versions of the Infinity Engine websites mentioned in my last post (http://www.shsforums...showtopic=28591), along with sites for Baldurs Gate I, Planescape: Torment, and Icewind Dale II.

Best Regards,
David McKay.

night and day use the exact same area.

They use the same area, yes, but use different .tis (background image) files. If nobody's answered this by tonight or tomorrow I'll take a look for you, Dave. :)

How do you make a night map? i have created my day map and have it saved as a bmp ready to import to IETM, but am not sure on how to make the night map, is it just a transparent layer of a dark colour set to x%? or is it something else? Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure what you're looking for exactly, but your site looks really good. It seems to lack some intuitive menus though, which are usually at the top or left of the page.

A good site I've always liked for BG1 is Dudleyville, which is now at http://www.forgottenwars.com/bg1/. The BG2 ones aren't quite as good, and Dudley never did get around to doing his BG2 walkthrough - it would be nice if someone else did in the same style with maps. The closest competitors I know of for BG2 are Mike's and GameBanshee's:

http://mikesrpgcente...alkthrough.html
http://gamebanshee.c...walkthrough.php

Neither of them are as great, but at least they have maps. If it's just maps you need, I can write some routine to extract and convert them to web format (though I thought K'aeloree offered that some time ago, no?)

If you only want to extract the file ARxxxxN.TIS of a night map, and save it as a .bmp, .jpg, etc... you can use the TeamBG Graphics plug-in, that allow graphics formats like .MOS, .TIS to be edited directly in common graphics editing programs like Photoshop, The Gimp, Paint Shop Pro... (all photoshop plug-in compatible hosts).
  • The .TIS import plugin will prompt you for the width, in blocks, of the image (1 block = 64 pixels, a map which measures 5120 x 3840 pixels = 80 x 60 tiles)
  • You can't create a .TIS file; you can only modify and export one you will have initially imported.

The plug-in works under Photoshop 7 and CS2 but not under Photoshop CS4.

Here a link to download the plug-in, on my site :
