I've played the game a million times, and I'm looking for something a bit different.

I've narrowed my choices down to four:

1)Sword Coast Stratagems II http://www.gibberlings3.net/scs/
2)Improved Anvil http://forums.blackw...hp?showforum=99
3)Classic Adventures http://ca.spellholdstudios.net/
4)Tactics http://weidu.org/tactics.html

If anybody here has any experience with any of the above mods, please respond and let me know what you think of them.

Thanks!

Baruk Khazâd! Khazâd ai-mênu!

Oh, squiggly line in my eye fluid. I see you lurking there on the periphery of my vision. But when I try to look at you, you scurry away. Are you shy, squiggly line? Why only when I ignore you, do you return to the center of my eye? Oh, squiggly line, it's alright, you are forgiven.

Be warned, you've opened quite the can of worms.
Even Sikret described this discussion as balanced (or it was this one, I'm not even sure the two posts are any different).

CA is a total conversion, so you're playing a completely new adventure, which is completely unrelated to the standard BG2 plot - if you want a completely different plot, play CA. If you want an harder BG2, don't.

I wouldn't suggest using Tactics as a base since SCSII is generally smarter and better with regards to compatibility. Of course, you can install the components of Tactics that SCSII doesn't touch, and then install SCSII on top of that (if you haven't already, read SCSII's readme, as it contains tons of information on compatibility).

When it comes to the decision of IA vs. SCSII, I'll redirect you to the topic I linked above. Just be advised that you'll be treated like a pariah if you post on the IA forum playing with a party of four.

And, by the way, please check the Readme of IA. Many mods aren't compatible with it.

Just get 4 backups of BG2 and install one on each.

I've played Tactics, IA and currently am playing SCS2.

The first one is a pure piece of cheese, though I never played without Imp Bodhi, Ritual, golems and Kuroisan (and maybe something else).
IA is even bigger piece of cheese, and somewhat smart (i think) as well.
SCS2 isn't a cheese but pure smarts.

I'm not entirely sure what's worse - cheese or brains. It's my understanding that most people prefer to keep initiative in their own hands instead of giving it to opponents. Cheese is barely nice and is rightfully considered as despicable. On the other hand, an enemy should resist player's attempts to kill them, not try to kill the player (and SCS prefers to target low on hp mages instead of tough fighters). Who in hell would want to cast Stoneskin and see an enemy immediately switch to a thief or priest?

My personal choice so far would be SCS.

Be warned, you've opened quite the can of worms.

Seems like there's a good chance we'll get another "anvil discussion" thread, so lets not turn it away, shall we? It's been reather quiet last months.
