And of course, it gave all of said experience to the characters with me when I plan on given one or two of them the boot... so now I am stuck waiting to learn spells until I have the party I want.

With a "BGT Tweak Pack" component you have removed the BGT experience to normal BG2 experience. That's why you have this amount of XP in BG1, too. You can use "Ding0's Experience Fixer" or "BP-Balancer" to adjust the XP for Spell Learning, Disarm Traps and Lock Picks.The only thing that bothered me was the 1000 - 2000 experience I got for every scroll I clicked "Write Magic" for. That seemed like way too much. I gained 11,000 experience.
