BiG World Project (BWP) v5.6
Entire installation instructions for the Baldur?s Gate Megamod

The BiG World Project aims to merge all games of the Baldur's Gate series and the additional contents created by its community in one massive adventure, including a modification of BG1 to run BG1 with the more modern engine of BG2, plus the added functionality of ToB expansion. Now all new functions which are introduced only with BG2 are also available for BG1. This signifies, BG1 uses just like BG2 the same graphic arts, the same character kits, the same magic and the same rules. Now even for those which know BG1 by heart this is a new play experience. Besides, it also includes an additional transition from BG1 to BG2.

BiG World Project is constantly going through changes to acquire a more stable and bug free version with every new update.

The current instructions are divided into two versions:

1. BiG World version:

Herewith are mods installed recommended by the majority of the testers. The installation is aimed to the greatest possible play pleasure. Mods with few contents, with absurd degree of difficulty or bugged mods are not installed. The used mods are supported furthermore by the authors. The BWP team concentrates upon the farther improvement of this installation.

2. Expert version:

This installation tries to fathom the feasible. You have a 100% chance of running into bugs and/or CTDs (crash to desktop) and it has quietly a long way to go before reaching perfection (if it ever wants). The relevant mods are greyed out in the instructions and are only installed if you remove the detent before.

This project is in development. Beginners should keep absolutely to the instructions, while experienced players with some efforts, tests and bugfixing can also create their own version of the BiG World.

We are glad about every suggestion and every criticism which serves to improve the BiG World Project. The BiG World Project Team is available for you at any time in the forums.

For German gamers you can visit our German forum.

Here you get all what you need for a megamod installation (click me).
- BiG World PDF-Manual (in Englisch and German)
- BiG World Installpack (for an easy installation)
- BiG World Fixpack (fixes bugs in mods)
- BiG World Textpack (for foreign languages (currently German only))

Step by Step Instructions

BG1 installation
- Make a full installation of BG1 and Tales of the Sword Coast
- Patch it with BioWare?s official ToSC patch v5512
- Start BG1, make your settings, create a character and make a quicksave with Q in Candlekeep

BG2 installation
- Make a full installation of BG2 and Throne of Bhaal
- Patch it with BioWare?s official ToB patch v26498
- Start BG2 and ToB, make your settings, create a character and after the autosave quit the game

For English users: Download and extract the BW Installpack and the BW Fixpack into your BG2 main directory
For German users: Download and extract the BW Installpack, BW Fixpack and BW Textpack into your BG2 main directory

Get the mods ready
- Create a separate folder and name it like ?BW Downloads?
- Download the mods you want to use into the separate folder (you can use the BiG World Linklist for that)
- Extract all mods into the BG2 main directory (we recommend 7-Zip for extracting the mods)
- Some mods are packed differently, so see the additional informations in our BiG World Linklist

Important NEWS
  • You don't need the fixes for BG2 Fixpack from the "BiG World Fixpack" anymore, because a new BG2 Fixpack version was released. So delete the whole "bg2fixpack" folder in the "BiG World Fixpack" directory.
  • You don't need the fixes for DSotSC from the "BiG World Fixpack" anymore, because a new DSotSC version was released. So delete the whole "DSotSC" folder in the "BiG World Fixpack" directory.
  • You don't need the fixes for NTotSC from the "BiG World Fixpack" anymore, because a new NTotSC version was released. So delete the whole "NTotSC" and "NTotSCv163" folders in the "BiG World Fixpack" directory.
Additional you must change in the Install.bat all NTotSCv163 to NTotSCv171.
  • You don't need all the fixes for SoBH from the "BiG World Fixpack" anymore, because a new SoBH version was released. So delete only the whole "BoneHill" folder in the "BiG World Fixpack" directory.
Additional you must change in the Install.bat all Bonehillv235 to Bonehillv245.
  • The modauthor of "Stone of Askavar" has uploaded a fixed version under the same version-number. In this case don't use the "BiG World Fixpack" hotfixes for "Stone of Askavar". To avoid this, delete the following lines in the Install.bat:
    :: temporary fix for Askavar; the tp2 needs corrections to fix that%IFXS%soa.exe copy /Y ".\BiG World Fixpack\_Hotfixes\soa\override\*.*" ".\override" | %M%%IFXS%soa.exe copy /Y ".\BiG World Fixpack\_Hotfixes\soa\data\*.*" ".\data" | %M%%IFXS%soa.exe copy /Y ".\soa\bgt\areas\*.*" ".\soa\areas" | %M%
  • You don't need the fixes for SCS from the "BiG World Fixpack" anymore, because a new SCS version was released. So delete the whole "scs" folder in the "BiG World Fixpack" directory.
  • Mike1072 reported an incompatibility between components of "Unfinished Business for BG2" and "Item Revisions". If you want to install both mods, you should delete the component 20 of "Unfinished Business for BG2" in the install.bat.
  • aVENGER reported incompatibilities between components of "Ding0's Tweak Pack" and "Item Revisions". If you want to install both mods, you should delete the components 11 and 18 of "Ding0's Tweak Pack" in the install.bat.
  • The recent BP-Balancer version is not compatible with the new version of NTotSC. See post #88 for the changes you must do, before you install BP-Balancer.
  • Use for the BP-BGT-Worldmap erebusant's Worldmap Imoen Patch.
Begin the installation
  • Disconnect the internet and disable all antivir software/firewalls
  • Start the "BiG World Install v5.6.bat" and follow the on-screen instructions (the Install.bat runs the "BiG World Fixpack" and for a German version the "BiG World Textpack" automatically)
  • Shows the Install.bat missing BG1 wav-files you can download the needed files here in post #7. After you extract it, put the files in the BG1 override directory.
  • Play your megamod.
  • If you reach BG2 then don't use the Post-Install.bat and do the post-installation manually like it is described here.
Note: Always make a Backup of your BG2 game files and a clean install for every new installation. More information about that you can get here.

25.3. Configuration of Baldurs Gate
Higher resolution
If you have a large enough monitor you can choose to see a larger amount of the map in your screen
window by using a higher resolution. Double click the file BGConfig.exe in your BGII - SoA folder.
Under the graphics options select the highest resolution; 1024 x 768 and under window mode
choose full image.

This needs to be done before the Widescreen mods is installed, as it will make the games GUI settings look very bad as the game thinks that you are still using the reset(1024 x 768) resolution settings, undoing the Widescreen mods settings, and breaking the outstanding section of the leftover resolution, or something to that effect: Example.

25.5. Remove superfluous folders
If you are sure you completely finished install / uninstalling and biffing the files, you can delete all mod folders, set-up files and
DEBUG files installed by mods.

Hello again unfortunately I used bg2fipack 6 but my system wasnt't able to install it.
Here is the weidu.log http://rapidshare.co.../WeiDU.log.html
If you can help me I would really appreciate...

Actually if you see my file none of baldur's gate trilogy mods were installed, because during the installation the command line wrote : To write down the path that BG1 is installed , I wrote it down press enter and nothing happens, weird...
After this I pressed Ctrl-C and the choice n and continued the installation. But off course bg2 never started...

You just need to input BG(I+TotSC+patchv5512)'s location on your hard drive like the text few line above says. It's usually something a like, (use the quote marks too, if you have spaces between the marks):
"C:\Program Files\Black Isle\BGII - SoA"

After this I pressed Ctrl-C and the choice n and continued the installation. But off course bg2 never started...

You need to reinstall everything: start from uninstalling BGII, then delete the game folder, and then re-install the BGII:SoA and everything else, if you don't have a safe backup.

Nice work guys! In particular, thanks for making the auto-installer install RR's Shadow Thief Improvements if CtB is not detected.

BTW, I have a small remark regarding these two components:

~SETUP-D0TWEAK.TP2~ #0 #18 // Improved Backstabbing

and

~ITEM_REV/ITEM_REV.TP2~ #0 #18 // Backstabbing Penalties for Inappropriate Weapons -> Backstabbing Penalties Only: v2

AFAIK, they both do the same thing i.e. add backstab penalties to larger weapons. So, if you install both of them you'll effectively apply the penalties twice which will, in term, negatively impact any thief characters (either PCs or opponents) who wield them. Therefore, I'd suggest installing only one of these components at the same time. Make sure to check on this with the mod authors on this as well.

@ Jarno

Thanks for the Widescreen Mod advice. We'll put a note about it in the next release. :)

@ dragonian

Yes, you see right. We've not the time to include the descriptions about expert-mods in the recent guide. So if you have any questions about the reasons of them, please feel free to ask.

Normally:
Expert BG2 Tactical Encounters: You can install all, because it is for experienced gamers only
Expert BG2 Stores and Items: You can install all with a few exceptions, because we don't want to put to much items at once
Expert BG2 NPC Mods: You can install all with a few exceptions, because we don't want to put to much NPCs at once
Expert BG2 One-Day NPCs: You can install all, but we don't use them because of the less content in such a megamod

@ aVENGER

Thank you very much to show us the incompatibility. :)
We'll use the Item Revisions as the standard one then, because it is newer and supportet. ;)

Greetings Leomar

Many thanks boys for your efforts, i'm the last of newbie and i'm downloading right now this version of BGP. i really hope to became of some utility for you in the future.

in the first instruction i can read:

install bg1
after the installation of bg1 start the game, make a save and quit.

install bg2

start , save and exit

i'd like to know if i also can follow this order

install bg1
install bg2

start, save and exit.

many thx in advance

Paolo

ps in order to download the right official patch, how can i see if my game is uk or usa version??

pps in have found in http://kerzenburg.ni...t=34931#NSISENG the mod return to trademeet items pack

In the first instruction i can read:
I'd like to know if i also can follow this order:

Install BG1+TotSC+patch v5512
Install BGII:SoA and ToB+patch v26498
And then start, save and exit.

As long as you start both games, and let it auto-save by starting a new game with a character, everything will be set right. Notice the changes I made. :whistling:

In order to download the right official patch, how can i see if my game is uk or usa version??( for tob i have download the patch, when i started it a message appear : choose your language(fr, it,sp) and where is eng????? so i have chosen it. I hope it mean the language for the instruction not for the game version!!. I'm right?

Well, you downloaded the wrong patch! As you need to have the "English Patch version 26498", which only has the English language... as you have the international"Euro Patch version 26498".

I have found in :link: the mod Return to Trademeet items pack but not the mod Return to Trademeet, is this correct? because it is not full compatible for now?

It's not compatible, and for now, probably never bee... as it's a Total Conversion mod, for now.

And so that it can be quoted, and seen from here;
When I answer to a bug/faulty action report in these BWP threads, there is usually both good and bad news: The good news is, it's not BWPs fault, the bad news is it's user/your error.
PS: I have never even competed a huge BiG World Installation(50+ mods, nor a BP one). :P

I finished the install with no problems in the install itself apparently, but I noticed something strange from the beginning, I don't know if it's a bug... and that is- from character creation screen when I reached the skills tab all the skills were active although I was creating a cleric, I could select anything I wanted although I remember the cleric was limited to blunts. So after I created this character I tried to make a mage and the same problem appeared - all the skills were active. Although it's tempting to make a mage that dual wields katanas it feels somewhat wrong...

I believe one of the components from a mod gives all classes the ability to train in using any weapon. I can't remember if it removes class restrictions from the items themseves though(probably not)......I also can't remember where it is. However the important thing is that it is not a bug, just a feature you didn't know that you were installing. :D

I have never even competed a huge BiG World Installation

:D Nevertheless you are very helpful here and in the other forums and have more time as I've to answer the BWP questions of the English gamers. Therefore many many thanks for your help. Everytime it sounds like you have played many BWP versions... :D

@ dragonian

if you would be so kind to tell me which of the item or tactical mods are sure to cause ctds

All tactical mods are fine and for the item mods don't use the following:
- Bag Bonus (avoid such mods, because of the computer lag problems)
- Munchmod (the merchant will nerve you in each area)
- Sorcerer's Place Item Collection (this mod overwrites most files and don't patch them. Miloch recommended to put it in the expert-version)

@ dreamer2007

This sounds after the "Level 1 NPCs" component 1 [Tweak weapon proficiencies for some classes].
Have you installed "Level 1 NPCs"?

There are news about "Stone of Askavar". For such reasons I've added in the first post the topic "Important NEWS".
If we find out more, I'll update the first post and let you know this.

Yes I installed it, I thought that maybe that mod could be the culprit but I wasn't sure :) . Just in case I wanted to see if everything was alright and that's why I mentioned what I noticed. Anyway the game seems even more awesome than before now with the new BWP version! Again thank you for it!
