Hello again. ^_^ You might have seen my signature or a post about voicing. I decided a topic might be in order. Since Hisyune will be a long-term project, I want to do some minor smaller mods for whenever I'm not in the mood for my little construct.

There are barely any cleric mod NPC's in existance, so I used that class as base for a new character. Her name is Taph, short for Taphaelina, and she's a cleric of Talos.

Posted Image

Taphaelina Ashenrose

Female Half-Elf Priest of Talos
Lawful Evil

Strength - 13
Dexterity - 9
Constitution - 10
Intelligence - 12
Wisdom - 15
Charisma - 13

She's definitely not a powerful character, but she's young and still in training. She has her spells, though, and the priest of Talos ability to use lightning.

She comes with her own personality and personal story, which are explained in her banters with the NPC's and mainly the PC (since the PC is always present). She is a young and cheerful spirit with a bit of an attitude. At times she may sound sweet, yet she's prone to mocking, blunt comments, and provoking (Yes, it does get her into trouble :P ). She can also be selfish, serious when necessary, and sometimes a bit of evil shines through. Don't expect another Imoen, Alora, Fade or anyone else. :) Taph shows that not all evil people are cruel and moody mother effers. They can actually be quite fun to have around...sometimes. :D

I have written all SoA banters in one spree. Choo Choo offered to proofread along with providing a voice for Taph. ^_^ I'm in her debt. Twice. Once the dialogues are checked and possibly probably edited, I will post a few teasers here. ;)

This mod's concept is one day NPC, though it won't exactly be made in a single day (I'm not good enough for that), and it will remain supported and bugfixes, improvements and updates will happen when necessary. ^_^

More evil NPCs are always nice.

Talos being one of the most intensely chaotic deities as well as evil, a lawful alignment would call for some explaining in banters, as the associated worldview would presumably be a minority among Talons.

"Tyranny is a quiet thing at first, a prim and proper lady pursing her lips and shaking her head disapprovingly, asking, well what were you doing (wearing that dress, walking home at that hour, expressing those inappropriate thoughts) anyway? It's subtle and insidious, disguised as reasonable precautions which become more and more oppressive over time, until our lives are defined by the things we must avoid. She's easy enough to agree with, after all, she's only trying to help -- and yet she's one of the most dangerous influences we face, because if she prevails, it puts the raping, robbing, axe-wielding madmen of the world in complete control. Eventually they'll barely need to wield a thing, all they'll have to do is leer menacingly and we fall all over ourselves trying to placate them." -godlizard

Yes, it is explained. :) I studied information on Talos and the way her faith works is plausible. I'm thinking on giving a specific event in her past an overhaul, though. I decided against it during writing, but the more I read my alternative version, the more I begin to question its credibility. Choo Choo will probably say the same during her proofreading. At least, I can very well imagine she would.

Thanks, whatever that means. I'm still alive, I just haven't gotten time or opportunity to get any work done, and I'm waiting for my proofreader. Well, not entirely true, that. I finished her .cre files.

Sorry I'm taking so much time - I meant to get it done yesterday, but circumstances didn't agree. I will *try* to have it done by tonight (the proofreading, not the voicing, I'm afraid) and if not, then it will be done tomorrow night.

No rush. And no, not the voicing, as I haven't written everything yet, I understand.

A few screens for your pleasure. Next set of screens will include dialogue, probably of her joining the group, banters, and an interjection or two. She's not exactly the type to shut up much. :) I don't quite like the paperdoll, however. It looks like a wrinkled old woman.

Use Shadowkeeper to change her Appearence to "EDIT: FEMale Cleric Human". (lol)

By the way, you may want to consider increasing her stats. They're pretty *average* ugh.
And if she doesn't shut up much, consider increasing her Char a teensy bit.

Wheee The Gnome.

Looks too tall.

Everyone always complains about how the Biowares are too powerful, and now there's complaints about mod characters being too weak? A character doesn't need medium-to-high stats to be useful. I'm sorry, the game is all about interaction and dialogue for me. Combat and gameplay-related stats come second...third... actually I don't care for combat that much at all, really. For a super-powered cleric, use a different NPC...make your own?

And if she doesn't shut up much, consider increasing her Char a teensy bit.

She's talkative. That doesn't mean she's very charismatic. You'll see what I mean when you actually get to witness her talking.

You don't need high stats anyway, especially with useful items around in the game, like Girdle of Strength, Ring of Human Influance and the like. ^^

Yes. One of my teachers used to talk a lot too and I fell asleep during his lesson. xD

... and 13 charisma is above average, in any case. :)

I would increase her dexterity quite a bit to maybe 14, especially considering some things she says, but it's not that important.

That's possible, yes.

I will.

I have the proofread dialogues now and have read through them. A few errors, but not as many as I thought it would have. I'll adjust the dialogues to use in the mod. Many thanks, Choo Choo. ^_^

And while you wait: Spoilage.

Taph: I'm almost afraid to ask, but what exactly is the appeal of turnips?
Jan: You jest! You *don't* know!?
Taph: Um, no...I don't. I've never liked them myself. Icky stuff.
Jan: Well I never... Are you serious about that? My my, someone who cannot appreciate the fine flavour and texture of a delicious turnip, and all the good recipies based on that ingredient.
Jan: Well, that settles it. I shall have to make you some of the most extraordinairy turnip dishes known to the Jansen family. We'll get you to like turnips in no time!
Taph: Um, no...that's okay...
Jan: No no, I insist. Tonight we eat Grandma Jansen's Pepperturnip Delight. Hope you like it hot.

Minsc: Minsc and Boo are impressed! How does little Taph shoot thunder out of her fingertips like that!? Please teach Minsc your thunderous smiting skills!
Taph: Heheheh...I don't think I can, big guy. They're powers granted to me through my faith in Talos. If you want to shoot lightning like I do, perhaps you could become a mage...nah, probably not.
Minsc: (squeak) Yes Boo, thunder was Dynaheir's part. Minsc knows that! (squeak squeak) Hahaha! Excellent idea, Boo! We could use friend Taph's thunder to charge Minsc's sword!
Taph: Hehe, that'd be...shocking. Unfortunately, I don't think it works like that. Your sword would have to be imbued with magical lightning properties and I don't really have the skill for that.
Minsc: What? No thunder!? This is a sad sad day for all that is good...
Taph: Aw, don't be like that. Tell you what, next time we come across a friendly mage, we'll ask them to enchant your blade, okay?
Minsc: Excellent!! Hear that, evil!? Minsc will have a brand new thunder sword with your filthy name on it!!!

Edwin: So, there is a priest of Talos admidst our ranks. This group has now officially degenerated to its lowest point. (If it weren't for me, they would be stuck there forever.)
Taph: Huh? What's your problem with me?
Edwin: My problem, dear simian, is the obnoxious insistence of your clergy to destroy matters that are none of their concern. It is reckless and foolish.
Taph: Our church is actually a lot more organized than you'd think. Okay, a heap of chaos compared to other churches, but there is structure, and rarely do we bite off more than we can chew. It wouldn't make Talos happy if we all perished in one go, now would it?
Edwin: I am sure he would be happy after frying a village or two. Preferably in the Shaar somewhere, hm?
Taph: The Sha... wh- ..you take that back right now!
Edwin: Struck a nerve, did I? I know much more than you feel comfortable with. I did not come unprepared, my little monkey. Here, a banana for your silence.

And a bit of attitude...

Taph: What's your deity, hun?
Aerie: W-What?
Taph: Which deity do you worship? I mean, you *are* a cleric, right?
Aerie: Y-Yes, well... I worship Baervar Wildwanderer.
Taph: Oohh, the Masked Leaf. Hmm...
Aerie: I-I know it's odd...
Taph: You don't *look* like a gnome, though... if you are, you're quite, um...big.
Aerie: No, I am Avariel...at least, I was once.
Taph: As I thought. It all makes sense. Wingless, the crying, seeking faith elsewhere. Yup, one messed up lil' elf.
Aerie: T-That's not a very nice thing to say... Why do you have to be so cruel?
Taph: Because it's true. Don't you think you're messed up? You are, right?
Aerie: Even if I am, I never chose for any of this to happen!
Taph: I know. I never said it was all your fault, now did I? Regardless, you're a wreck. You need healing we clerics simply can't give.

Just got some coding done, mainly banters. It's a lot easier when you have a template and adjust it to your own needs. Also, I'm itching to write a few interjections. A question, though: How much is too much? I wouldn't want her to comment on everything, yet she's not the type to quietly stand there and pretend nothing's happening. I'm also searching for some less-than-common places for her to speak up.

Don't be silly! She can speak up on any subject she sees fit for her attention ^_^ Remember you have to write from her point of view :D

EDIT: And I like the banters, but she seems way to good, even for Minsc to be making friends. She IS evil, after all. Oh, and worships the god of frikking DESTRUCTION.
Aerie banters are good! No offence to the others though, just nitpicking.
