I go to Restenford. Pick the quests up from the mage, and take Fabio with me. Wanting to get started I did NOT go see the cleric in Restenford but went direct to Garroten.
I go for whatever reason, my play style? FIRST exploring the area, Martin is there and I talk to him, I tell him WHY I'm there. He runs off to the house, I see the other 'named' Lothar, for what ever reason I lie to him. I go to the temple, the inn, the theater, tell them all, see the beggar and talk to him, though he's AFTER the inn. They all refer me to Martin(except the beggar) who now has nothing to say. All the cut scenes work great. Besides them, I have gone into almost every bldg as well talked to the stable boy also. All this 'information gathering'. Once again a usual pattern of play in a mod like this.
While at the inn, I wind up talking to some guy sitting there, don't remember his name, I get a LOT of information, this is before I have talked much to Oscar and co. who haven't told me much at this point anyway. Somehow I do know this guy reads minds or something, I don't know HOW I know this but it's in the dialog option, I pick it, and spills his guts about everything he knows, which is a LOT. So then I go over to talk to phony captain, and say I know who what he is, and he runs out, I go out and attacked by him, Oscar and co and some other rogues. So no assain's grotto, that entire part of the game, ceases to open up, which is fine.
I finish clearing name of the priest there, and the bard, well get Wilbur's story, and the inn keeper. I don't know how I know to suspect the stable boy, the option just 'appears' somehow in a dialog and I take it. Then I go talk to to stable boy.
All this is done, I go to the Lake up north and the lizards. Do that, there's NOTHING else to do, no of the npc suspects can/will say more, nor does Martin. Thus far they have not been arrested, but I guess nothing to trigger that? Though Lothar, who has been exposed and fled and is at the castle doesn't say anything? I can't figure out why then it doesn't trigger Ascue for me to come have a talk with the mayor.
I take things into my own hand, and go to castle myself for a talk, have one, then leave. I go back to town, soon as zone in, I'm ambushed. I wait out some hours, the main suspects have been arrested. Which is good. Wait and wait some more hours, including travel to Restenford, to the lakes, trying to get Ascue to spawn in and tell me the thing is solved, in other words, word from the mayor. For what ever reason that seemed never to happen. That's when I posted in the boards, was there an area south I am missing that I needed to go to. I decided WTH when I got home from work last night.
I go to the castle again, wanting to move things along. I go back to try to talk to mayor and her cleric about why she has these guys prisoners. NOT her or cleric or Ascue as anything to say. SO I go on up the stairs, knowing this is going to make them angry. I clear it out, collect evidence, free prisoners.
I go back to the town. Get the lady I found fixed up. Martin and the priest I rescued have NOTHING more to say, on plot stuff, the priest nothing, the druid says nothing he hadn't already told me. SO I go to the inn. THEN Ascue teleports in when I walk in. HE tells me the mayor has picked up the suspects and found the guilty ones I need to go home

So I go back to Peltin. Tell him what I have and he sends me to the cleric there. Well I get the dialog from him that one would have gotten if they'd talked to him BEFORE going to Garroten. I try zoning out, resting, all of it, I NEVER get an option about him being behind the murder. SO WTH, I decide to try a restore scroll on him and see what happens then.
I never like attacking neutral npc's for fear of factioning problems which is why I always try provoking them first. I thought it would cause him to go hostile.
Well when I use the restore scroll on him, immediately his dialog cuts to the 'what have I done' one. And we teleport to Peltin. And the mod finishes out.
As I said I was able to finish it in a manner of speaking. IF everything worked liked it should it would even be a wonderful mod, better even than the first. As it was, it's so messed up. I have a save just prior to going, and I'll try playing through again, now I know more or less what is going on, and more or less the order it MUST be played in, and more or less what MUST be said, for this thing to work like it should. BUT if that's going to be the case then you really need a better walk through! Way to many ways this thing can break down if you do NOT follow a certain, specfic order.
I hope the bugs get worked out someday, this is a great little mystery mod, and well written one at that, if only, it worked like it should. As it is now, it's just a mess.
