Would the platonic Sarevok relationship be better left to SConrad's IEP? I believe he reaffirmed recently that he was intending to finish it.

KY, I thought that was a feminine product...

Sorry, in bad taste.

I found some Lineage charts from my Grandmother trying to trace the family history and I've been trying to set up a flow chart thingy. I figure both the platonic and romantic will follow the same route.

Here's what I have:

Before Yaga-Shura
>
After Wraith and Nyalee After Yaga-Shura
>
After Gromnir fight
After Meeting Melissan > After Sendai/Abazigal
> >
After Abazigal/Sendai
> Before Balthazar Throne

My bro was thinking that we could set the final one to the Ravager room.

And how hard, I'm just thinking here, would it be to bring Salvanas in? Maybe the Tankard Tree or in Amkethran. It would be fun to see Sarevok's reaction is Salvanas starts hitting on the PC. Whether the Romance is active or not.

Should I wait til the lovetalks are out and adapt them to a non-romantic variation for more of a tie between this and the rest of this mod (so as not to have a bunch of different Sarevok friendships out there)?

Were you thinking the platonic one would be for otherwise eligible protagonists with an alignment incompatibility, or for anyone, like the IEP friendship will be?

Probably not very hard, would just make a new NPC named Salvanas spawn and noone would know the difference.

Or perhaps instead of that, a more agressive interest from the guards in the tavern who are already harassing the waitress. Would be funny to see Sarevok twist those guys' heads around backwards.

And Conrad, know where I can find any books on Coding?

WeiDU coding, no. The market for WeiDU books would be very small. Other books probably won't do you any good, since they wouldn't teach you the quirks of WeiDU itself.

Naturally, learning a programming language would most likely make it easier for you to learn WeiDU, but it'd be double effort.

Like Icendoan said, there are hundreds of tutorials lying around. If you've coded something and it doesn't work, like you hinted at, post it here for us to have a look at it. We might be able to spot the problems.

Would the platonic Sarevok relationship be better left to SConrad's IEP? I believe he reaffirmed recently that he was intending to finish it.

Please don't base your modding decisions on what I might or might not do in my Sarevok mod. If you have an idea for what you want to do--by all means, go for it. I don't want to create the appearance of me standing in your way with something I'm not going to get to until some point in the not-so-near future.

Oh I didn't mean that at all, it's that personally I don't care for redundant mods, and was wondering if the 'platonic relationship' being suggested was just an IEP style friendship, or something more, in their eyes.

Yeah, go ahead and wait for the lovetalks. I'm having a bit of trouble figuring out a starting conversation for it.

And yes, the platonic would be for the former and for everyone. I'd love to make the romance for everyone, but I can't and get it done anytime this century, too many differing opinions.

I can't get the Mod to work. My brother changed a couple things around and I started a new game to test it and it still wouldn't trigger.

Could it be because there wasn't a timer set to it? Or maybe I didn't see it.

I'd have posted this yesterday, but never got the chance to go back online.

Hello all,

I?ve discovered (and read through) this thread this afternoon and now must confess to being eager to see this project come to life (and to completion). Needless to say, I?ve wanted to see a Sarevok relationship/romance ever since I?ve first played through TOB, Sarevok being the intriguing character that he is and the underdeveloped potential in interacting with him (angst, drama, intrigue, dark humor? you name it).

That said, I do dabble a bit in BG fiction (which is unlike modding, I know) and happen to have some ideas that you might/or might not find useful. I don?t know the first thing about coding, though, so some of my suggestions might not be feasible.

First, the length (or lack there of) of TOB ? it is a problem when considering a workable, believable *romance* (which should not be confused with a quick romp ? or several of them), especially with the (understandable) reluctance to make Watcher?s Keep mandatory for the mod?s purposes. One possible solution to this is to include ?dream sequences? (like the dream in the Asylum before you lose your soul) in various parts of SOA where Sarevok and the PC could interact. The idea is not mine, btw, but borrowed from Domi?s sadly canceled mod titled ?Midnight visitor?. My take on it would be that during Sarevok?s stay in the Abyss the Taanari (the charming hosts that they are) devised a way to reward/torture him (I?m assuming he was a soldier in the Blood war) by allowing him a ?window? of sorts into the PC?s life. Where the PC is concerned the episodes would be just that ? disturbing dreams, which could allow for some interesting dialogue (or not, but I would tie the realization to the PC?s INT and WIS stats). That way, you could get some of the issues that need to be addressed out of the way before TOB, set the tone of the relationship and add a flare of mystery and intrigue to SOA regarding Sarevok?s character.

I did start to write an outline for these dreams some time ago (for RE), but work, life in general, and working on an original novel got in the way. I do have the first one (a draft) written, though.

Also, I see Sarevok much like Aeryn does (huge fan of her work btw - insert fangirl type sigh  ), with him not being a good man in the conventional ? or pretty much any - sense of the word. In my mind, he doesn?t do ?soft? or ?kind? unless it suits his purpose, he is manipulative and can be very unforgiving (one has to be to survive childhood with the likes of Rieltar). On the other hand I can see him as being fiercely protective and/or possessive of what he perceives to be ?his?. That's all part of his allure. ;)

So I agree that the relationship from his perspective should start as purely physical and as a way for him to gain leverage over the PC. A man like him is used to having power and bending others to his will, and I don?t doubt that he would use any and all means to gain some footing after joining the party ? especially if he considers the PC attractive and doubly so if he thinks she would be tormented by it (petty revenge, and all that). As for his thoughts on the PC during the events of BG1, I can see him acknowledging that he does find her attractive but brushing it aside as inconsequential. Sarevok is a goal-oriented kind of guy. The PC could be Sune incarnated and it wouldn't have made a scrap of difference to him. A quick romp on the one hand and impending goodhood on the other ? no contest.

I also agree that the ?incest? angle wouldn?t bother Sarevok in the slightest; after all, he did repeatedly try to kill his supposed sibling. Any misgivings on that topic would have to come from the PC?s side ? or not, depends on the PC.

Do you guys have an outline for the mod at this time, btw?

If I can help in any way, please, all you have to do is ask (with the notable exeption of coding and /or catching gramatical errors - I'm blind to them, and my first language isn't English).

Well, if they have an outline, they haven't shown it us yet.

Your grammar looks all right to me, really. Then again, I only skimmed it.

Vs the error, having another look at it (while I was modding, I might as well), it is using the dream script. Try resting. :) Or wait for someone who has more of a clue than I do about it (which, believe me, isn't hard when it comes to multiple dialogue files).

*hugs Pen52* Oh, you sweet, wonderful person!!

I hadn't even thought of the Dreams! That shouldn't be too hard, should it? I'm not a coder, of course, but it couldn't be all that difficult. *dodges rotten fruit from nameless coders*

Sorry.

Gosh, so many things to reply too, so little time.

Pen52:

I already said thank you for the Dreams suggestion, so that's done. As for using sex for control, It might be kind of kind hard to write in, unless you'd like to try.

We have something of an outline, where the major talks go and your idea for the dreams is great.

Icendoan:

I've tried resting, but it doesn't seem to work. I'll take a look through it again.

Well, I have no idea how far along you are with the talks, and what kind of tone you have set to them. I've only seen the drafts of talks that are posted here, and they seem to be relying on an pre-established relationship between the PC and Sarevok (in the sense that they are already lovers). But that can be written in (a few scenes come to mind).

Also, the 'dreams' (Sarevok would know them to be real) could be a way for Sarevok to come to terms with his feelings/attraction for the PC before they actually meet in TOB. That way, it wouldn't come out of the blue for him, and it could give him a chance to work out his anger at the PC before hand. Let's face it - he has to hate her, at least a little bit, at that point. In my draft of the first 'dream', the PC is unable to move during the entire dialogue (since Sarevok knows what's going on and she doesn't, he has the upper hand) and is at his mercy. After he's done talking, Sarevok kills her by cutting her head off - at which point she wakes. Which should be a nice change of pace for him. :whistling: In the next dream, after the talk, he lets her fight him (whether he wins or not is up to the PC's stats and/or chosen dialogue options).

My idea is to leave the PC in the dark as to what's going on, and to drop hints that this is actualy real progressively with each dream - I would also tie this in with the PC's stats - hence allowing her more control over herself and over Sarevok in the dreams. One more interesting fascet to this would be a 'dream' while the PC is in her soulless state in which threre is a possiblity to become intimate with Sarevok - And why not, it's a dream, not real from the PC's perspektive - and having no soul does wonders for ones moral dillemas.

Imagine the consequences in TOB...

Of course, there would be some tweaking of the hell dialogue in SOA, for the dreams in general, and a dialogue in TOB that deals with them, which would differ depending on the PC figuring out the deams were real or not.

Here is a part of my draft for the first dream, the begining. It's a bit messed up (I got kind of lost in all the responses), but you'll get the genaral idea. I've tried to cover as many PC types that I could.

Dream 1 (conditions: first conversation with Yoshimo done, asleep, drunk, Chapter 3)

You wake up to the darkness of a dank tunnel. Your skin itches ? it feels wrong ? burning, and there is the smell of sulfur in the air. The soft glow of runes etched into the stone is the only thing you see. The stone itself, strangely enough, feels cold against your bare feet.

I. A voice: So, it is true. I can make you come to me. They did not lie? not this time.

PC1: Who are you? GOTO Voice1
PC2: Come to where? GOTO Voice2
PC3: You do realize, whoever you are, that disturbing my much deserved rest could have lethal consequences? GOTO Voice3
PC4: That voice? I know that voice! GOTO Voice4
PC5: They? GOTO Voice5
PC6: Ow. My head. GOTO Voice6
PC7 (WIS>15; INT>15): Those runes? That?s abyssal script. Why the hell am I dreaming about a disembodied voice in the Abyss? GOTO Voice7

Voice1. Have you forgotten me so soon? Or have I become just one more corpse in your wake? One more dead face in the crowd? *you hear heavy footsteps approaching*

Father would be pleased if it were so. But I doubt you could ever forget me, sister. GOTO PC8

Voice2. Does it matter? This place, a figment of both our imaginations, is unimportant. The fact that you are here, a hair?s breadth away, is what matters. *something cool brushes against your bare shoulder* GOTO PC1,3,4,6,7

Voice3. As sure of yourself as ever, I see. But you are not the one with the upper hand here, CHARNAME. Best you remember that. GOTO PC9

Voice4. I would be surprised if you had forgotten. Such a tremor in your voice? I am pleased to see that you fear me still. GOTO PC 8

Voice5. As curios as ever, I see. Quench that curiosity of yours for now, CHARNAME. It will do you no good. It is I that will be asking the questions tonight. GOTO PC10

Voice6. *Chuckles* Ah, yes. You had quite a bit to drink tonight, CHARNAME. Thank you. GOTO PC11

Voice7. I?m impressed. It seems that Gorion managed to drill something into that thick scull of yours after all? before I cut him in two. You haven?t forgotten about me, have you, sister? GOTO PC8

PC8
A: Sarevok! *You peer through the darkness, trying to make out the shape of him, anything, with little success. Then you try to step forward? and find yourself unable to. Something cold and sharp brushes against your bare shoulder*

A.7. This is a dream. None of this is real. GOTO Sarevok6

B: Note to self: stop drinking yourself into a stupor. Will lead to disturbingly vivid dreams about evil dead half-brothers. Stick to Jaheira?s herbal tea. *sigh* If I punch you in the face, will I wake up from this nightmare? GOTO Sarevok7

C: Think again. I had forgotten all about you just as soon as you crumbled into so much dust at my feet. Well, maybe ten minutes after that. I had to stop and clean my armor/robes. (lie) GOTO Sarevok1

D: Think again. I had forgotten all about you just as soon as you crumbled into so much dust at my feet. Well, maybe ten minutes after that. I had to stop and clean my armor/robes. (truth) GOTO Sarevok8

D: I?m sober enough to deal with you. Who ever you are. What is it that you want? GOTO Voice 7

Voice 7: The drinking bout you?re on has made you vulnerable, CHARNAME. Enough for me to slip in past your defenses.. You wouldn?t believe how hard I?ve had to push to get here. So I thank you for indulging in your little pity-fest.

Voice 8: *chuckles* Not grown up enough to hold your liquor, then? I?m disappointed. GOTO Voice 7

Voice 9: Indeed. GOTO Voice 7

Voice 10: You will find that out soon enough, CHARNAME. But first, do you know who I am?

Sarevok1: *chuckling* So composed, little sister. Calm and unafraid? on the surface. Save your lies for the world of the living. This place is beyond flesh, beyond the weave of clever words. In here, all of you is laid bare, CHARNAME. You cannot hide from me.

Sarevok2: I am here, CHARNAME. Right in front of you. *the glow of the runes intensifies, and you see a large shape looming over you, golden eyes aflame* Will you not try and strike me down? *the mocking tone in the words is hard to miss*

Sarevok3: I did nothing. This is your dream, CHARNAME. If you had really wanted to move, you would have.

Sarevok4: *a moment passes before he speaks again* So composed, little sister. Unafraid. I could almost respect that about you. *something cuts into your upper arm* GOTO

Sarevok5: *laughs* Indeed. GOTO Sarevok2

Sarevok6: You are right, of course. This is a dream. Your dream.

May I put a reminder to post a timeline of talks and other events! (The trial dialogue doesn't matter as of yet)

Before Pen52 knocks us off track (no problem with you being here, though, but you may have distracted everyone :P)

*wiggles as excitedly as a labrador hearing the word ball*

Me likey!

Sorry.

I love the dialog and the idea behind it. So, you want to set the dreams between Irenicus'? Yet again, why didn't I think of that?

Wicked. I can help you get into some semblence of order and we could maybe make Sarevok's replies linear. Like he'll go from:

Have you forgotten me so soon? Or have I become just one more corpse in your wake? One more dead face in the crowd? *you hear heavy footsteps approaching* Father would be pleased if it were so. But I doubt you could ever forget me, sister.

Without need a PC reply, straight to:

But does it matter? This place, a figment of both our imaginations, is unimportant. The fact that you are here, a hair?s breadth away, is what matters. *something cool brushes against your bare shoulder*

And put the 'but' in there for context. Sorry, I don't mean to screw with your dialog, when I get pissy when people do it with me.

I would think, Death, that something like this might be easier to than just putting it as going to this answer or this answer. Less coding, but possibly bigger chance for bugging out.

That's what testers are for.
That gave Jarlaxle pause. "Because I love you as a brother, I pray that you will one day fathom the truth of it all, my friend."

"They're dragons," Entreri muttered. "And I know how Drow love their brothers."

Oh, blitsznak.

It's the same path whether it's romantic or platonic.

Talk after meeting Melissan
\/

Talk before going up the stairs to battle Gromnir and his goons and one after the battle and talk with Melissan
\/

Talk after the Wraith and Nyalee (we can include the Tamoko talk in here too. I figure we'll use the same set up that the cannon romances do. Using past loved ones to torment. I even have a bit of a dialog scribbled out... Somewhere)
\/

Talk after Yaga-Shura
\/

Talk after Abazigal/Sendai
\/

Talk after Sendai/Abazigal (however players want to go)
\/

Talk before Balthazar
\/

Last Talk before Ravager fight and Throne.

Then handle what comes afterward, whether they break up, kill each other, have lots of kids or what in the epilogues for the romance and do some epilogues for the platonics as well.

How's that for a timeline?

Its OK. Now, go on to specify which talks are when, what they mean, and what they will be called by the game (and, which is helpful for a coding point of view, whatever variables you will set to say the talk has happened. GLOBAL and LOCAL)

Then, if you put the dialogue filename or the draft filename, so you can easily convert it all to WeiDU and get a mod going. :)

Warning... an obscene amount of questions to follow. :whistling:

So 8 lovetalks in total. This is the main path, right? Will you be including PIDs? Also, what about adding conversations after the Solar's relevations (or will that be included in the PIDs)? What I liked in for example Domi's Kivan mod is that you could get random conversations popping up depending on what you said in the PIDs. IMO, that adds a lot of flavor to a mod... but that's for later, when the main path has been planned out. Also, and I'm just stating an opinion here, without knowing what you guys have planed out, 8 talks seem a bit few for two former arch-enemies to hit it off. (then again, that's what the PIDs are for, really).

More questions... Sorry. :whistling: Will there be a difference (a tangible one) in the platonic or the romantic path for the oathed and the un-oathed version? (Hell, I'm starting to see why a Sarevok romance has never been done before  ).

As for the dreams, if you plan on using them, the timeline could be something like this, starting with chapter 2, maybe after all the dreams with Irenicus are done (I've changed my mind about the dreams starting in chapter 3 - some players like to run around quite a lot before siding with Aran or Bodhi).

Event: Third Irenicus dream done; at next rest at an inn (I've planed a talk with Yoshimo here and a drunken binge but I can't force that behavior or NPC on the player, but there could be an option if Yoshimo is in the party) - initiate Dream 1

\/

Since we can't know in which order the players will decide to do the sidequests (if at all), I'd put the next dreams that take place before Spellhold on a timer and let them trigger at rest. I won't mention posible topics here to avoid repetition, since I don't know what dialogues you have planed out for TOB. But!... :whistling: they could include the topic of what the PC's been doing with herself (Irenicus and the search for Imoen - here, I'd have Sarevok have prior knpwledge that the PC had been captured and that Imoen is missing, but not much else), Gorion and the whole Iron Throne mess, some mention of the Blood war (if the PC can pry it out of him)... I'll stop there. :)

I'd also like to make one of the dreams before Spellhold event dependant - start of Chapter 3, after the PC sides with Aran or Bodhi; at next rest. That talk would deal with the choice the PC has made and the motivation behind it (I'd expect a whole lot of mocking for the more tender hearted PCs)

There should be a dream after Spelhold (Slayer change done, Bhaal deam done, at rest) This talk should be a bit strained (I'd say that the fact that the PC can turn into Bhaal's avatar, soulless or not, while Sarevok is rotting away in the Abyss, would irk him a little... or a lot.)

The next event depended dream should be in Ust Natha (resting at the inn). In this dream there should be the possiblility of the soulless PC becoming intimate with Sarevok.

The last event depended dream should be after the PC defeats Bodhi - here, the PC could (stat dependant) figure out that the dreams have been real all along, which should have an inpact on the dialogue with Sarevok in hell.

...

Um... seems like lot of work, doesn't it?
