A Sarevok romance

By the way, and I hesitate to say this because I know how it's going to sound, but since the Sarevok Relationship mod seems pretty dead, you might want to check out those threads and scavenge some ideas if you haven't already. A lot of suggestions were made and it might make it easier to come up with flirts, and maybe even love talks, if you can see what people were expecting on a larger scale than here. In fact, if I remember correctly, Rastor was asking if anyone might be serious about taking that project over because he had copies of all the work already done on it. I hate the idea of necro-ing someone else's work, but I thought I'd throw it out there anyway.

Hey! Lookee! Code!Anyways, I put it in code, I think. I hope I did it right... Probably not... But oh well... Let's see what the general masses think eh?
IF ~~ sa1ar
SAY~(You see Sarevok Anchev, the man who has tried to kill you in the past and set you on the path you now walk standing not far away. You)~
++~Flirt~sa1ar.1
++~Turn Away~
END
Actually, it isn't bad at all. You need to make sure there's some kind of transition after your PC replies, like a GOTO or a EXIT, and putting in spaces on the code side of tildes isn't a bad idea, but it's generally looking really, really good!
If you want that first state, sa1ar, to be a PID, you need to have some kind of condition in it, like ~IsGabber(Player1)~, but you'll pick that up as you go.

I actually did go over there. I sat around that forum for months hoping it would come back to life. Sadly I think it is totally dead. I hope I'm wrong, seeing as how I would really rather play a Sarevok Relationship/Romance rather than make it, but if I have to make it to play it so be it.
I didn't post all the flirt ideas. Just a few. I have a long list of them on my computer.
As for Rastor I tried contacting him but it didn't work. Oh well. I would feel guilty doing much more than stealing flirt ideas. And there isn't a ton of info on that forum anyways sadly, I combed it a lot. Oh well.

Went waaaaaaaaaaay over my head. I'm a copycat unfortunately... I managed that by looking over Aeryn's Sarevok vs NPC diaolgs. If someone were willing to help me learn better I would be eternally grateful, but my computer is strange and hates Weidu. It let's me install stuff using Weidu but maybe I'm just computer retarded because it wouldn't let me look at any of the examples in the Weidu folder. It said 'The program required to open this file is not installed on this computer' or something of the sort.
Anyways was I in character? What did people think on that account? Originally I had an opportunity to mention the tattoos in this but with Aeryn's request my brain went into idea mode so I deleted it so that the 'Trace Sarevok's Tattoos' could get it's very own conversation.

Good ideas everyone. Aeryn, I simply love your writing style. HD was deeply in character. I can easily imagine him doing that Epithomy - nice flirt - staring at Saverok will be fun Rodeo - ehm.... as much as I dislike having nightmares, this may be quite fun to have them, when you have Saverok around
Heck no, b - I used the word the way I use things like "twitter", and "iPod" - my first inclination is to ask "what birdcall are you studying?" and I think of "I pod, You (singular) pod, He pods, She pods, They pod, You (plural) pod, We pod..."

This is so random, and a sure sign that I should be in bed by now, but I can't stop thinking of either a flirt of a love talk that has something to do with comparing scars. He has some pretty noticeable ones on his face, so I imagine he has many in other places as well... And after the lovely Irenicus got his claws in CHARNAME, she's sure to have her share as well. My mind of course descends straight into the gutter with this idea, but it could lead to a deeper conversation or something, especially if the PC is good/neutral and leading Sarevok toward CG. I might have to write the idea out and see what you think...because it will not leave my head.

In other words I wouldn't be able to concentrate long enough.
Anyways, comparing scars. You just gave me an idea Aeryn! I mentioned somewhere, I don't think it was here, probably in an email to HighTimeRodeo, that since ToB is so short that one conversation might need to lead into another, or just not happen at all. Here's my idea.
So say <CHARNAME> has showed an interest in Sarevok, somehow or other they get a little... under dressed, Sarevok is mostly unaware of what <CHARNAME> has been doing in her travels, he could comment on one scar or another, from here it could go several directions.
a) doooooooown the gutter
b) PC freaking a little. After all, some girls would be pretty darn self concious about scars.
c) comparing scars. The more battle hardened warrior types. How'd you get that one? Oh this was from back in Nashkel, etc.
From b or c it could proceed into an Irenicus talk instead of the nightmare. Just a thought. Anyways I've been blabbering and it's almost one in the morning... I need someone to come and knock me out... Preferably someone who 'towers' over my 5' 1'' and is wonderfully dark skinned with tattoos and... Minus the whole having a phsyco god for a father and having your foster father die on you, not to mention being tortured by an insane mage and having many of your friends die... being the PC would be sooooooo awesome....

As for when, it could happen after battle or at rest when they are dressing wounds, the PC could have taken off her shirt to change or put bandages. Perfect time for the mind to slid into gutter
P.S. I refuse to let my mind slide into gutter. I say refuse but it's already drowning in it

Eventually, you're going to have to learn to work the command prompt (DOS, where WeiDU operates), but there are tutorials on that. When I've had some coffee and can see straight, I'll see if I can find one for you.
But for now, I'll say that you have any number of examples of code sitting right in front of you every time you open a mod folder. Inside each mod folder, you'll probably find sub-folders with dialogues, scripts, creatures, etc. You can open these with any text editor. This link gives a list of resources you might need, including links to free text editors that aren't Notepad, which, quite frankly, sucks. I'd recommend Crimson Editor as a text editor. It's free, and it's got highlighters that will help you spot coding mistakes. Unfortunately, the link for the highlighters points to the G3 wiki, which seems to be experiencing difficulties. I'll poke cmorgan, who wrote them, and see if I can get him to send me the files so I can put them up for download on my own site.
Anyway, once you've got open mod files in front of you, you will have examples for doing just about anything you want. Go easy, at first, or your head may explode. If it were me, I'd start by looking at unscripted banter. And I would definitely stick to newer mods! For unscripted banter, you might want to try looking at Haldamir, a very simple NPC. Romantic Encounters is a veritable mine of code. It offers scripted dialogue (check out the NPC reactions), cutscenes, and examples of copying and modifying creatures on the fly (which is helpful if you don't want to have to come up with a new creature for every single one you spawn).

Thank you very much for offering to find me that tutorial. I still don't think I'll be able to do the final coding no matter how much I learn, but anything I can do to make that person's job easier is a step in the right direction.

That Crimson Editor might help, but I've tried opening mod files, my computer won't let me.
Really? What's the problem? Have you tried "Open with..." and then selected Notebook/Crimson Editor/ConTEXT or something like that? Unless I'm horribly mistaken that should do it for most mod files, at the very least the .d's and such.
EDIT: Just thought of something, you know you're supposed to open the uncompiled files (.d etc. in the mod's own folder) and not the installed ones (.dlg etc. in the override folder?

As for a question from earlier, I installed Weidu and tried to look at the examples of dialog and stuff that they provide and that wouldn't open. And I don't touch the override folder if I can avoid it, so no I wasn't trying to open stuff in that.

I cannot understand the beginning though. If it starts out with the PC, is it in a PID (Player-Initiated-Dialogue), if so, you need something like this for your block:
IF ~True()~ THEN BEGIN pid1
SAY ~(You see Sarevok Anchev...)~
++ ~text~ + trans
list
END
or
IF ~IsGabber(Player1)~ THEN BEGIN pid1
...
like Berelinde said.
This is due to the game taking the highest state (first in the dialogue file, disregarding weight) with all conditions true. Leaving it empty is something like "Ok only if you direct here with a transition. It cannot start here", so remember to leave your default dialogue on True() or something along those lines, or you will get "NPC has nothing to say to you".

I have clearly underestimated the advantage of scars in my relations to the opposite sex, I should really get some (which might be an issue since I really don't like pain ). Then again, I suspect I might need to grow to seven feet tall, build lots of muscles, get glowy contact lenses and a really big sword for the effects to fully kick in.

Thank you, Aeryn, for coming up with other answers and if you don't mind, I'd like to use them. And too, for not re-writing the dialog I posted. I will make the changes and try to 'Sarevok-it up a bit'.
I know that action dialog does not fit in the game, but it is how I write.
That said...
I wrote a 'steamy scene' and I'll send it to you as soon as I find your e-mail address that doesn't run through here 'cause it's pretty, er, graphic.
EDIT: Oh, I forgot to mention...
I love the dialog with Haer'Dalis! It was hilarious and I love the poems you picked for it. If only we didn't have to get permission to use them...
