Hi.

I'm having some major problems installing BGT v1.06 and hope someone here can help.

My problem is very similar in symptomology to that of 'TinCow' (and, apparently, some other players before him) detailed here: http://www.shsforums...p...916&st=737# - I can start a new BGT-BG1 game and create a character, but the game 'hangs' with a black screen when loading.

I have, sometimes, been able to start the game but it then hangs the same way whenever I try to enter buildings in Candlekeep (tested both Winthrop's and the barracks).

I enable logging and get this:

---------------------Start Logging Session---------------------

ASSERTION FAILED!
File: CTiledObject.cpp
Line: 179

Exp: FALSE

Msg: Tiled object resref not found
Run Debugger?

I note that this error also gets a mention here: http://kerzenburg.ni...mp;postcount=12

But I can't read German.

Another thing I note is that during the installation of BGT there are a number of errors which say "Error: unable to create output area WED file". Unfortunately, these errors do not appear in the SETUP-BGT.DEBUG file. How do I set the MODDER flag in the Setup-BGT.tp2 to capture this?

I'm using Vista, clean install BG1+2+patches in C:\BG directory. I have a 4-disc BGI+II 'collection'.

It does not seem to be exactly the same problem as TinCow's insofar as that I do have the language.txt file correctly in the BGT folder after installation.

I have tried everything I can think of: installing the BWP fixpack first, installing the G3fixpack first, modifying permissions on the install folders, re-downloading BGT, using the UK version of the Bioware 5512 BG1 patch...nothing works.

Any ideas? I'm fresh out, and exhausted from reinstalling and retesting over and over.

Thanks,

Maya.

I'm using windows xp and bgt 1.06, and I can also confirm this black screen when loading bug. But it seems to be random though. The best place to catch it, for me at least, is right after you leave Candlekeep with Gorion and wait for the cutscene to start.

Question:

When installing BG1+TotSC+Patch did you do a costume install checking all the boxes?

Sure...

Yeah, this happens without any other mods installed.

Sorry, we can't help you. In the mentioned thread the gamer installed the BWP v5.3 and not BGT alone. It could be a problem with the megamod. He makes a clean install and tried the newest version v5.4 then. Unfortunately we have not such another problem like you described.

The only things what could cause problems are bad BG1 CDs. Have you scraches on your CDs? We have had a gamer in the German forum who could not install BGT because not all files were correctly installed through the bad CDs .

Greetings Leomar

A Megamod does not mean that you can play all of the mods or all of their content,
but you have more choices or paths through the game.

Thanks,

My CDs (well, DVDs to be precise, in the cases of the non-expansion media) are practically mint condition, but you never know. Hopefully I can get another copy...

I have checked the thread here: http://www.shsforums...showtopic=18062 and I have all the files listed therein, but I guess they might be faulty. Is there any way to check? The areas load fine in a non-BGT game, so I have my doubts, but perhaps the BGT conversion is more finicky than the BG1 engine.

I would say that my experience, whatever it's root cause turns out to be, demonstrates that the problem your other player had may not be at all related to the BWP.

Mayaserana, can you attach your SETUP-BGTDOS.DEBUG file (this will contain the WED warnings and whatnot) here? The file itself is a monster in size, so you might need to zip it. You can find the file in the same directory as you can find SETUP-BGT.DEBUG.

Sure :)

Sorry it took so long - I did not realise there had been a new reply as I was waiting for my new disks.

Which arrived today!

Bad news though; I still have the problem!!

I was trying v1.06 again. Might 1.07 work?

debug file as requested is attached (RAR)

Hmm, you are getting a lot of these during the area conversion, which would explain why most of the areas will crash when you try to go to them.

Error : Cannot create output area WED file

I'm not exactly sure what is the problem here. I lgive the author of the conversion program a buzz and see if he has any ideas.

No, I'm sorry. He hasn't gotten back to me.
Just a few ideas, do you have much free space on the drive you are trying to install BGT-WeiDU on?
Do you run any background programs during the installation? Have you recently checked your system for trojans, viruses, and spyware?
Have you tried installing the same thing on another disk drive? Or even another computer?
What operating system are you trying to install this on? Have you tried using a different operating system?

About 30GB free (300GB drive). Thought about getting a second HD installed...kinda busy with other stuff atm but shall give that a whirl.

Can't be sure about background programs but I wouldn't be running much except for the resident Anti-Virus (McAfee Enterprise), Anti-Spy (WinPatrol) and webcam (Logitech Quickcam).

I can drag my old Win2K PC out of retirement I suppose, but as mentioned above am kinda busy with moving house for the next week or 3.

Vista Business.

Thanks for answering, I'll let you know how things pan out

We have had a german gamer with BGT installationproblems, with activated Firewalls/Antivirsoftware. The problem was solved by deactivating the Firewalls/Antivirsoftware before installing BGT. At the moment we recommend to deactivate such things to avoid problems during a megamod installation.

Greetings Leomar

Does the game still crash? We haven't proof that the crash is definitely related to the errors, yet, although I still think it is. Looking at the source code for the converter utility, it looks like that copying the old WED file to the new WED file doesn't work, but the coding doesn't tell you exactly what is going wrong. I think I'll need to adjust the code to get some more information on the error.

I didn't actually test it. Will do so in the next day or 2. do you recommend I install any other mods first, or try BGT all by itself?

It's not all bad, I now have 3.3TB of storage available muahahahahaha

Try to run Setup-BGT.exe in WinXP compatibility mode (right click on .exe, menu Proprties, one of the tabs).
May be it'll require to set such options for tis2bg2.exe separately....

Yep, still crashing.

Tried King Diamond's suggestion this time as well as disabling protection per Leomar's advice.

Same errors during install.

Haven't tried the other PC as yet, although I would likely be doing principally to verify that there isn't a problem with my discs, although I have now tried 3 different sets.
