I try to transcript the german voice parts, but I did not get used to DLTCEP yet (not very intuitive); did I need a full installation of PS:T to get hands on the voice parts?

Qwinn: Did you need that subtitles soon (= for 2.0)? Because it sure will need some time, but on the other hand, the german translations of the other TRAs are finished and should reach you this evening - at last ;).

Homisite:

You know, I didn't think of that, but you're right, it is better for whoever does this for german to ignore my transcription and just transcribe them directly from the german sound files, so the word choice is exact and everything. Well, at least you can use my file to get the file names right after one another :) (example of a sound file name : [MRT084]).

You're right, DLTCEP isn't very intuitive, this is the only thing I really use it for. I wouldn't even use it for this if Near Infinity could handle these files, but they can't.

To use DLTCEP to play them, load up DLTCEP (ignore the slots and color errors) then click on "Sound" in the menu bar, then on "WAVC to WAV", and this will get you another window with a list of every sound file. Click on each file and press the "Play Sound" button.

And yes, Homisite, unfortunately I do intend to get this in for 2.0. I'm still waiting on the italian and german readme's, so this itself isn't causing a delay yet, but we'll see. Honestly this file is a lot easier to translate than the 3 readmes, I'm guessing.

I put up a sticky thread with all the files needed for a translation, but for the sake of this component just translate the file attached to this thread, as it contains everything I still need translated (including new paragraphs to the readme and sounds.tra). I'll handle moving the translated bits from the file from this thread to the files they actually need to be in.

Mhm... I'd have to install PS:T anew but if nobody else volunteers I could try to translate the soundfiles (well, listen to them and write down the words said) for the German translation.

Btw, regarding subtitlers.tra: I think it's "AND THEY..." in @200002 and "I... forgive what you have done." in @200010. But this is from memory and maybe I misheard.

Uhm.. to get this right... Qwinn, HomiSite, do you need subtiles.tra and sounds.tra in German? or are they going to be done in another way?

Thx :)

I try to translate/transcribe the sounds.tra and the subtitles.tra. Thanks for the help with, eh, DLTCEP, Qwinn. Unfortunately, some files did not play, maybe because I have no full installation at the moment?

I couldn't open subtitles.tra with TREP => lot's of errors (didn't try sounds.tra)!

The following strings have different german voice text at the given location that written down in subtitles.tra (so I guess the locations are wrong?):

@200063=~"Great power isss here."~ [IGN084] => Translated german voice: "Cold"

@200070=~"It is difficult to separate shadow from the darkness here."~ [FFG071] => German: "This location ist colder than the touch of a starving ghost"

@200091=~"Sense of closure: Imminent."~ [NOR087] => German: "Processing"

And here, the description at the beginnig has to get removed:
@200084=~Annah breathes on her palms and rubs them together. "So c-c-cold here."~ [ANA199D]

PS: Who is translating the ReadMes into German?

@200002 was correct, there is no "AND". You're right about @200010, it's hard to make out but you're right, it sounds more like "what" than "all". I corrected it.

I couldn't open subtitles.tra with TREP => lot's of errors (didn't try sounds.tra)!

It probably can't handle the bracketed sound files. I'd just use ConTEXT or something else for this.

@200063=~"Great power isss here."~ [IGN084] => Translated german voice: "Cold"

@200070=~"It is difficult to separate shadow from the darkness here."~ [FFG071] => German: "This location ist colder than the touch of a starving ghost"

@200091=~"Sense of closure: Imminent."~ [NOR087] => German: "Processing"

I checked, my transcriptions of the english versions are correct. Looks like they changed it for German for whatever reason, but go with whatever the german sound files say. You can pretty much ignore the english transcriptions for the sake of this component.

@200084=~Annah breathes on her palms and rubs them together. "So c-c-cold here."~ [ANA199D]

I added it because she makes a breathing sound at the beginning of the sound file that sounds like what I described, so I thought I'd add it. I don't see how it does any harm. Like I said, ignore the english transcriptions because clearly there will be differences, for the german version the appropriate way to handle it is to just transcribe whatever the Black Isle guys decided to do for the german translation directly.

PS: Who is translating the ReadMes into German?

A poster sent me a PM volunteering the services of a friend of his who does professional translating for a living. Since you guys were still working on the actual mod translations, I decided to take him up on it for the german readme translations. Haven't heard from him since we first discussed it about a week ago though, so I don't know if he'll pan out.

1. I just thought that if TREP can' t read the files, they may be have syntax errors inside, which prevents the use in your mod packs. (A minor thing: In @4 it is "2.00", in @5 "2.0".)

2. At the end are the recent transcriptions/translations of the mentioned TRAs. Some voices were BTW very funny - and I think Annah's german voice sounds "too old"...

To german proof-readers:
- If there were veeery long breaks within a sentence, I used "...".
- Use of "!" is often a matter of opinion...
- A bit hard are sounds like in @200051 and esp. @200063...
- UPDATE: As I wrote above, some sound files did not play with my installation; I just realized, that there is only one installation way for PS:T, except inofficial full install (I have not enough HD space for that).  Can someone else try to playback the files like Qwinn described above? Until then, I deleted the old translation, translated the english strings (marked with "[code=auto:0]*") and uploaded v2 (see below). (UPDATE II: I also updated now sounds.tra, although it's just a rip-off version of subtitles.tra; Qwinn already did that work. And I add a missing quotation mark at @200070to in subtitles.tra, also updated.)

A poster sent me a PM volunteering the services of a friend of his who does professional translating for a living.

It would be quite interessting what a professional translater would say to the german translations, because ZenJu and I are quite satisfied with it :) .

Odd that some files aren't appearing for you, Homisite. If someone else has a full german installation and can see the missing sound files, please post about it here.

If not, if the files really are just totally missing, then I would recommend translating my english transcriptions. If a script calls for a sound file to be played that does not exist, the game just ignores it. So if they are genuinely missing from the german version, german players just get a long silent pause whereas any other translation would get the english sound file. But with this component, by adding translations of the english transcript, german players would get to see -something- rather than the long uncomfortable pauses, albeit unvoiced.

Let's not bother doing that, though, until we confirm that those files really are genuinely missing, and not just a matter of your having only a partial install.

Hello Qwinn and the rest aof the translation Team,

since the fixpack 2.0 was announced, i waited for the release to get back to the planescape. Now after several delays i wish i colud wait any longer;-)...The translations needs time, i understand, but now i see there is another delay, because of some missing readme translations.Can you just release without it (after subtitel and sounds are finish) , and put in in later Versions. Because i don´t need this translations, which doesn´t mean i don´t like the work you do with your team. I love it and be very thankful that so many people work with so much love and passion for that absolut brilliant game. But in my case i´m waiting only for the 40 fixes and still do it...
I hope you´ll understand my concern.

Everyone who is working on 2.0 did a fantastic job!

Greetings,

Bob

Immortality,

Woohoo, thanks!

Bob,

Yeah, understood. I'm considering it strongly, and yes, leaning towards not holding up release for the sake of readmes. So you'll probably get your wish.

I translated now the english strings (there is only one installation for PS:T). I hope some other german player could check it out and also look for the audio files.

More information and the new subtitles-translation in my modified posting above.

Homisite, ack, do you hopefully still have a copy of the version where you only did the ones you had access to? That'd be easier for someone to fill in than one where they can't tell directly transcribed ones from translated ones. I did look at it but I didn't save it, or I'd put it back up myself :(

I've saved your subtitles.tra (and split out the sounds.tra from it), and it is what will get used if we can't come up with a direct transcription, but I'd still very much like to get one if we can rather than a translation.

And, Arkain, since you offered and no one else has volunteered, would you be willing to do that? Meaning do a full install, so we can fill in the gaps that Homisite wasn't able to fill in?

Hello,
I didn't know where to post my message exactly! but, I hope this is okay here. I have had this game for at least 10 years, it has been one of my favorites. I have the 2CD version and I have attempted several times to play this game over the years but never have completely finished an attempt yet. I even read online of the possibility of a sequel to Planescape Torment several years ago that never came to reality. I have however kept up with patches, mods, fixes and info about the game which were limited for a long time until now. I downloaded the 3 fixes you worked on and have also been anticipating the release of the current one you are now struggling and working so hard to get translated and released, I have not played the game with the fixes yet unfortunately except through the hive area at the beginning. Anyway I wanted to just say that you guys are doing an awsome job and this has been a long time coming, I thank all of you for all the hard work you are doing to help fix and improve this game, please keep up the great work and thank you again.

Thanks kindly Wade, I very much appreciate it, and I'm sure everyone helping does too :) It's always good to hear that our efforts are appreciated beyond the small group that actually posts regularly here :)

As I wrote here, I translate the voice parts which seems to miss on a normal german installation (maybe at all); in DLTCEP the playback window appears for some seconds, but no sound. And as I also stated in my linked posting, I marked the translated parts - which are just 6 strings - with a "*" after the code in "[...]", so you just need to search for "]*" to find the translated parts ;).

I forgot a  quotation mark at the end of @200070, can you add it, please (I also updated the german subtitles.tra again because of that)?

I've saved your subtitles.tra (and split out the sounds.tra from it), and it is what will get used if we can't come up with a direct transcription, but I'd still very much like to get one if we can rather than a translation.

Oh, yes, I forgot to update the sounds.tra (updated it now), but as you wrote, it's just some strings from subtitles.tra (which are marked like the translated ones in the german subtitles.tra).

Taken care of.

And I didn't notice that a few of them still have an asterisk (*) after them. In the earlier version you had three ***'s. It doesn't seem like there's as many marked that way as in the previous version though, but I suppose I'm mistaken. Still, if we can get someone to do the full install to check on the asterisked ones, hopefully it wouldn't be too much additional pain to double check 'em all.

Arkain, you there bud? :)

Well, Arkain isn't responding and no one else is volunteering, which makes it appear that, since release could be coming any day now and almost certainly by sunday, that I'll probably be implementing Homisite's version which includes translations rather than transcriptions for the german version.

Thanks kindly for providing what you were able to, Homisite.
