Maybe it has something to do with the UAC on Vista? Or the location of the installation (protected "Program Files")?

When I run the fixpack it goes fine then goes into the creature checker. I have edwin romance and get this error

Illegal creature file [edwin\cre\tknight.cre] (file size is < 724 bytes)

Someone should check if the edwin romance uses this file and if so, fix it. (I vaguely remember it being zero bytes long. So I guess it's not used after all.)

I'll add it as a note for the next version. :)

Hi,

I've got issues with the v6.01 BWP Fixpack and BGT too :(.

I can install BGT only and start a new game with no problem. If I run the Fixpack and install BGT, I get a black screen after character creation and have to force-quit BG.

OS is Vista, UAC is off, rather frustrating.

Just a note, I went in and checked the tp2 and the file isn't used anywhere, it is a 0 byte file so I just deleted it.

No, you did everything correctly.

What operating system are you using?
Can you post the last bits of the log file (BiG World Debug.txt)?

Where is the BiG World Debug.txt? I can't seem to find it...

I'm using Windows Vista.

I'm having a similar problem. "BiG World Fixpack.bat" and the "BiG World Fixpack" folder were un7z'ed into my BG2 main folder. I saw them there. But when I ran the batch file, it's stuck at the first check, and this error message showed up: "Can't locate 'BiG World Fixpack' folder. Make sure it resides in the directory."

It did something more! It changed all files in the BG2 main directory into hidden files!

There was no "BiG World Debug.txt" either. It was not generated.

I'm running Windows 98.

The only fix I need in there is the "setup-bg2fixpack.tp2.patch". Is there any way I can patch it manually? Thanks a lot.

Here you get the setup-bg2fixpack.tp2. Unpack it in your BG2 game directory and overwrite the existing one.

Taimon, could it be, that the new style of our Batch-Files don't work with older versions of Windows like 98 Shamino mentioned?

Greetings Leomar

Or it could be that the thing needs the ".net 2.0" or something alike...

I think Microsoft changed the batch API when moving from Windows 9x/Me to the NT-style branch. The Fixpack uses some features which are only available in the NT-style batch, so unfortunately, it will not work on Windows 9x/Me.
I'm not sure if Microsoft has any upgrades for the batch processor for these operating systems.

It's possible to rewrite it using the Windows Scripting Host (which even Windows 95B should be able to handle), but is this worth the effort? (I mean, how many people here are still using Windows 9x/Me? I strongly advise upgrading to some NT-style version, for security reasons alone.)

Thanks Leomar, Jarno Mikkola, and Taimon. Yeah I know I'm running grandpa OS like Win98... Several kind souls over at G3 helped me get the fix like Leomar did, so it was resolved. :)

So it turns out that it just doesn't work on Vista for some reason. I tried it on an XP computer and it worked fine.

Yeah I'm having the exact same problem with Vista.
I think it has something to do with permissions.
I've tried giving myself full access to both the cmd and patch.exe but it still fails.
I'll try opening it directly from the cmd instead of windows explorer.

In case anyone is wondering... I fixed it simply by turning off UAC.
And if that doesn't work try making yourself the owner of the .bat file AND the patch.exe file (search for it in the SoA directory).

...

Where exactly did the files ended up, were they in the unpacking folder, or were they in the game folder where the bgmain.exe is... For example for the BGT, it needs there it's setup-bgt.tp2 and the setup-bgt.exe and the BGT folder, not the BGT106 folder as that's the unpacking folder... with the BiG World Fixpack.bat and the BiG World Fixpack folder.

I unpacked all of the mod stuff into the main SoA folder, so there is a setup-(insert mod name here) file for every mod that I want to use. I unpacked the fixpack into the SoA folder as well, though besides the bat file, all the files for the fixpack are still in a "Big World Fixpack" folder. Should I empty the folder into the SoA folder?

I'm having the same problem... Any insight?

I'd suggest you read the manual. :D
You have to execute the batch. The included patch-program will alter the files it finds. Replacing the files will not do the job. If you wanted to execute the BiG World Install-batch later, you don't have to do this since it will be done by the Install-batch automatically.
THINK! - It's not illegal.
