I think this needs a topic of it's own now that I solved all the other problems I was having with the mods.
The problem is when resting at certain points in the game the game locks. This happened to me once in a BGT-BP install not that long ago at the end of the BG part of the campaign. I solved it by cloning my character...but it ended up freezing the game again after awhile when I rested. I gave up on that and installed Big World with most of the mods. Had some trouble with them, but I solved them only to find the annoying rest freeze/lock the game bug. Early in the second area after Candlekeep it hit me first this time.

I've been messing with my character with Shadowkeeper..removing certain skills seemed to help at first..then it happened again in another area...and so forth hence. A highly annoying game bug. If I don't get to it fast enough after it locks up on a rest and kill it with Task Manager it freezes my entire desktop so I must reboot. If anyone knows of this bug and how to deal with it your assistance would be greatly appreciated. I have searched the forums here already without luck.

So ...here is what happens again to be clear... I REST(doesn't matter if it's a inn or outside), the game immediatly locks up, if I do not kill the game within about 7 seconds with Task Manager it locks my entire computer.

By the way I did remove from the installation a Mod option called "Rest Anywhere" from my install in hopes it was the offending software causing the rest/lock bug. It was not the problem.

EDIT: Forgot..here is my weidu log..for all the good it will do.

What I think is happening is a 'talk' or cutscene is trying to start 'on rest'. You might test to see 'who' in the party might be causing this or if it needs to be cutscene/dream fix. Just my thoughts, I don't really 'know' why you are getting this bug.

No..it's when I rest anywhere. I have just one character in the party. It could be a dream/cutscene deal...as I haven't noticed any. That seems possible thinking about it. Not for sure though. Even if it was that I have no knowledge on fixing it correctly at the moment.

About the errorlog mentioned in the other thread:
Add Logging On=1 to [Program Options] in baldur.ini, then reproduce the crash/freeze and post the contents of baldur.err.

OK...here you go ..

---------------------Start Logging Session---------------------

Helpful? I thought not. Nothing is logged.
This crap is more than it's worth. Now it freezes at certain combat or dialog encounters only occasionally unlocking before a pure crash.
I'm not going to risk my sanity and the destruction of my computer(by my pissed off hands) on this gd game for much longer.

Well, the BWP/BGT install definitely takes some patience, no question about that. You might be better off with EasyTutu+modded BG2 if you want a quicker install.

I don't know if these are related, but you might try dropping some of the same mods mentioned.

http://forums.gibber...showtopic=11513

You might also want to drop contest/"Iron Modder" entries, non-English mods like Rolles, Silberdrachenblut, Chiara, Ajantis, Thael, Kim, etc., joke mods, and other mods that might have potential issues described in posts in this forum or on the BWP link list. Fewer mods = fewer potential problems, for the most part.

If you get an actual crash, don't you get an error message in a Windows pop-up window, or anything like that?

I've done smaller. I've done BGT-BP..I got the same damnable rest/lock error before the transition to BG 2. I did BP before right on through way way back. If this doesn't work I'll be deleting it and trying to forget about it. Unfortunately I was looking forward to it, but if I get GD errors periodically through the game it is worthless and beyond annoyance.

Yes when it freezes for encounters/and dialog that leads up to being attacked XP will give me a "DO YOU WISH TO REPORT THIS" box after about 5 minutes or more waiting for it to do something. When it freezes from sleeping it freezes the entire computer if I do not kill it quick enough with Task Manager. All those damn pathetic NPC mods shouldn't have been included IMHO anyway...idiots putting their characters in the game from what I've seen...I make sure and KILL them when done with them anyway. I'm not wasting another 3-4 hours reinstalling this shite though unless it's going to work...so looks like I won't be because no one knows what the Hell I'm talking about apparently. Perhaps most people just said F&#! it and deleted the entire damn thing instead of trying for help first time around when this problem showed up for them.
Hopefully there are no trolls here that whine and say "well it's free you can't bitch". Well I CAN and I WILL because the purpose of the mods is to expand the old game to make it fun for all. If it is failing in either then it's worthless.
In total I have used at least 15 hours+ or more of my free time trying to get this right..when I FINALLY do get it right it UNrights with freeze bugs and rest locks.

I don't know if it's worth it, but if you get this again, do a screenshot or save the Windows log (usually gets generated in your system temp folder) and post it.

Yeah. Well, you know if you just don't download those mods, BWP will just skip them. Or if you've already done that, you can either move them somewhere else, delete them or comment the lines out of your batch file.

I would drop about half the stuff in your log if I were serious about playing. Some of that stuff even I haven't heard of, and I thought I grabbed everything (for my test install anyway, not one I actually plan on playing). Basically IMO:
- If it says "one day" anywhere in it, drop it
- If it says "IM," "Iron Modder" or "Contest" in it, drop it
- If it contains odd characters (NPC für BGII), drop it
- If it references real-world stuff, drop it
- If it contains Mprolla or Luvnalia, drop it
Then drop all the NPC mods, and add only the ones you've heard good things about or might actually want in your party. If unsure, a good rule is if it's really small it's not worth it. If it's really huge, it better be damn good. If still unsure, drop it. I could mention certain ones that seem to have constant bug reports, but I think that's enough of my trashing for now.

Edit: Oh, I forgot... if it adds talking weapons or other unnecessary rubbish to your baldur.bcs (global script) file, drop it. Like Lilarcor isn't bad enough...

Maybe something from outside the game that is involved in these freezes. BG shouldn't be able to lock your whole Operating System. (At least not if it's NT and upwards.)
And it definitely wouldn't depend on time. So I guess there is virus scanner, or something like that, which causes problems.

No.

I am over 3 decades old...shutting down all unneeded programs including virus protections was one of the first things I tried. So no. It is not an outside influence...and this is XP Pro I am using. FULLY updated. It is the game's mods. Which one I do not know.

I had no Iron Modder items. What I did was go to your download link and download almost every mod listed at first.
I removed all NPC's besides 2 NPC mods that slipped past me and a couple of other small things that sounded useless removed and reinstalled. Only took about 2 hours 45 minutes this time... yay. I have a 6000 dual CPU and it still takes that long for all of it. I'll see how it works out....
Thanks for attempting to assist me by the way.

Well, maybe EMaD and Hubelpot went beyond being IM entries, or non-entries. I guess. Hubelpot, anyway.

Make sure you don't install End-Biff until your satisfied your install went as you planned. Might save you some reinstall headaches. Your game will run slow without it, but you can always tack it on once you've verified everything.

With End_Biff you have also option 1:
This method biffs all files in the override folder and it's possible to uninstall this mod. You need another 2GB of disk space.

Try using Near Infinity or Infinity Explorer and reading baldur.bcs. Look for blocks :
[codebox]IF
............
PartyRested()
...........
[/codebox]
Maybe it's creating a cre that's corrupted or starting up a cutscene that ends up hanging. Your answer might be in there or in the scripts that are running on your party members.

Oh, man...
Why can't you simply upload the files and give links to them?
It's just about the forum ethics.

Yeah, this forum is lagging badly enough as it is. Talk about information overload. What I was referring to is sometimes after a crash you get a pop-up that says "Assertion failed in (some file) at (some line number)." Sometimes that's useful, sometimes not.

I don't know if any of that is useful... it looks like it dumped the entire .exe and any other .exe it could find. It doesn't even give any offsets - it looks like just generic messages from the executable. But anyway, I'm pasting what little might be intelligible so that an admin can delete the post above so this thread isn't so bogged down.

Ethics? Like I was TRYING to lag people?...Yeah ...I was asked to post error data...specify next time. I don't have a readily available upload at the moment since my ISP was taken over. I also didn't know there were still 56K modem users that even TRIED to download these mods or read the forums, but wait..there won't be a next time. My game is so F'ed up now that I REMOVED some of these mods on the install it is COMPLETELY unplayable unless I want the world's first total insomniac AD&D character in BG.
No it's not me. No it's not my computer. It's not outside software. It's one or more of the GD mods. Someone has screwed with basic rules or something. I wish to import my old characters..nope..can't have that you'll rest and crash IMMEDIATLY now there is no delay..straight to desktop. If I start a new character..sure you can play awhile..BUT CRASH YOU LATER AHA. I can't be the only one I know. Then again maybe I am this is an ancient game. This is unsolvable because most of you don't know the contents of these mods anymore. If you don't know what EXACTLY is in them..you can't help. I can't do this crap anymore it will drive me MAD with anger. Until this is addressed fully by modders and fixed I am deleting this waste of ALOT of my time. I was looking forward to playing the old game once more with newer things, but I cannot put up with this shit. Now I'm "unethical" because some have a slow connection on a modding board with mods that would take MONTHS for a 56K'er to download in total. There was much more readable material in that long ass error report than what was quoted btw. Doesn't matter. Done bun in the sun. Disappointments happen. I bet some asshole did this on purpose in one of their mods...that or they were too stupid to be modding. I know this has something to do with skills or spells for a fact. I NEVER EVER had this trouble before in the years past with the large mods or ANY time before this year.

Oh well. Don't let me be "unethical" anymore. I am out of here. There is no TRUE help here and I damn sure am not looking through every damn line of code in every mod I downloaded for the line(s) that are destroying my gameplay experience.

Heh. Like any one person, or even group of people, has full knowledge of all the code in that huge laundry list of mods. I've a hard time keeping track of the code for the few mods I'm working on.
