Well, Dalayna is a beautiful mod, judging from reading through this. An awesome idea, Jarley, bravo. Looking forward to her

First of all, I'm sorry that I disappeared a couple of months back. I've been trying to find a job and it's been pretty hectic. I still don't have one but at least I've got things better in hand.

And secondly, thank you for all of your replies. I never actually believed that Dalayna would be found this interesting a character from the rough description 'lost her will to live'.

Furthermore, I wanted to say that she is still in progress, her dialogues advancing better than my feeble attempts at modding them. At the moment I have her romance planned out, with 2-3 LTs written down (the third is still a sketch but I doubt I'll be changing much). Her friendship path is still untouched but her flirts are coming along nicely.

Also, I wanted to take part in the discussion about her as an NPC that has lost her will to live. This will contain some SPOILERS so if you don't want to know, stop reading here.

Yes, in some aspects she reminds Xan but, rather than being pessimistic by nature, she is tired of life and has a good reason for this. It doesn't come with her character but with her experience (no offense to Xan, I love that boy to bits). Dalayna...has a bit of a problem with dying, in other words, she can't. This isn't about who she is but what she is (I won't be telling more about it here.) Or, to put it in her words: "I have lived long enough to know that everything has to end one day."

So, her nature itself isn't pessimistic, she's just tired. She believes she has seen everything there is and all of what comes with the sentient races (humans, elves, half-elves, gnomes etc.). Her opinions about this are strong and most of them unchangeable. But she has a romantic side - the side in her that is human.

Here is a bit of her later LT to show a bit about her opinion of love. It's that LT that's halfway done and that's why the PC's options are really...dull.

------------------------

D: Do not take me for a creature that has trodded through this life unloved. I have felt the first seeds of it planted and witnessed the last of the leaves falling. But most of all, I have been loved with fierce passion and tender flame. And I know everything it brings with it - tenderness, kindness, passion, hate, envy...even malice. I have longed for my loves, be they men, women or just places of importance, always fearing the inevitable end, hoping there truly was something in this world that lasted forever.

PC: It is memories we are left with when all the physical to hold on to fades away.

D: Memories? Hahaha! Do not take my cynical laughter at your naivete too harshly. Memories are more trouble than they are worth.

PC: Do not pretend there are no memories of your past loves you do not cherish.

D: Memories come with the pain of knowing that they are just that - memories. Twisted and tainted by time, they hardly represent the person or place they are about. You cannot touch, hold or kiss a memory. They are make-beliefs about the past and how everything was better in the time that has mostly vanished in the too-much-trampled paths of your mind.

PC: Was it, then?

D: Was what what?

PC: Better? The past in your memories?

D: ...No. The clearest ones are not of endless happiness and bliss. There are those, as well, but the rough edges have been smoothed by time and they feel like mementos of someone else's life. The majority is occupied with that look in the eyes of a person who realises there are no more hours and minutes - just that one last moment.

--------------------------------

And one of the PC's flirts with a few of Dalayna's 'answers'. I haven't decided yet on whether I should use <CHARNAME> or just simply 'you'.

PC: *Hold Dalayna's hand*

- *Dalayna's hand is cool and dry to the touch. She does not wrap her fingers around yours and even the slight squeeze you feel could just as well be your imagination*
- *You try to catch Dalayna's hand but her fingers fall through yours like air*
- *You grab Dalayna's hand but her fingers remain limp. She does not look your way or give any kind of indication that she even noticed your touch*
- *You hold her hand gently - the whiteness of her skin creates an illusion of porcelain which is only strenghtened by the coolness of her palm*

-------------------------------

(Edited for a couple of spelling errors and a problem with the dialogue)

He was just explaining how she isnt ^_^

"I have lived long enough to know that everything has to end one day."

Its gonna be fun convincing her otherwise, in order to romance her.

Oh, and for your lovetalks: THE PC NEEDS CHOICE!!! He should be able to say "Screw you, bugger off." whenever he wants.

By the way, I wonder how her Bodhi sequence will go, if she has indeed lost her will to live....

Why should that be necessary? Everything has to end one day after all. It's just not a reason to see the days leading up to that day as any less valuable because of it.

Ah yes, that last one was the LT I haven't finished and that's why it has no choices for the PC at the moment. Here, is one path (with also the other possible choices) of her introduction dialogue. I'll go with the first possible option in this convo. Even this one still requires some work since there isn't 'bugger off' option in some of them choices.

_________________________

(You see a young woman sitting on a rock. Her unkempt hair, providing a home for many twigs and leaves, falls lifelessly on her back. She doesn't notice your approach, her eyes not as much staring in front of her as staying still. Her pallid skin creates a striking contrast with the black of her uneven hair. Next to her lays a staff, seemingly haphazardly thrown down, plants already wiggling their way around it. She hasn't sat down for a simple breather.)

PC: (Approach her and tap her on the shoulder)
- (Say nothing and see what happens)
- (Pick up a rock and throw it at her)

D: (The woman doesn't turn to face you but apparently notices your presence) Yes? What is it you want from me? Can you not see that I only wish to be left alone?

PC: What does such a...pretty lass do in this cave all by herself?
- I hope you don't mind me asking but...are you alright?
- What is the matter with you, sitting in a cave like this, surrounded by all these monsters?
- Do you have a deathwish?
- I see: A monster amongst its kin.
- If it is solitude you seek then do not let me trouble you.

D: Ha ha ha. My beauty is less than skin deep. Just like your humour.

PC: You wound me! I was only trying to be charming.
- I see your manners are in short supply.
- Have I, by chance, offended you by stepping in your cave?

D: Charms, manners, goodness - all the same. You tread where you are not wanted. Could you just be kind and leave me be?

PC: You are in no fit state of mind to be left alone. You can join up with me if you want - a change of scenery could do you a world of good.
- I was wrong, it seems. Such a pathetic creature as you deserves to wither away with its ilk.
- They are indeed all the same but perhaps not what you think. Are you certain your mind has not been clouded by a moment of despair?

D: You want me to go with you? What for?

PC: Why not?
- I concider my company a better option than that of a killer mimic.
- Do I really need to give you a reason? Come on! Who knows, it might prove enjoyable.
- It seems you have nothing better to do.
- If you so believe it is best for you to sit in a cave then who am I to argue? Just do not crawl to me when some of the residents gnaw your feet off!
- On the other hand, who needs your kind of a whiner?
- ...Nothing. It will save me a lot of breath and nerves later if I just do not take you along.

D: Fine, then. Lead the way.

PC: See. It was not even that hard.
- I am sure you will not be dissapointed.
- I have changed my mind. If I needed to be this persuasive to get you to join, who knows what I would have to do to wake you up.
- You truly believed I wanted your company on my journey? Really, you are in the right company: as pathetic, as simple.

Ah, good news!

Apparently Weidu doesn't hate me anymore (in other words, I understood the silly mistakes I made) and so it's entirely possible that I'll finish this mod one day. There are some things I'll prolly need help with (like creating her gear. I've tried to search for instructions on how to do this a several times now). There's also a male voice I'd need for one scene but this can be done later.

At the moment it looks like I'll be voicing her myself and as soon as I'm home alone for a weekend I can post a voice sample. I've never really liked how my voice sounds on recordings but people've said that it's kinda soulless...so it'd suit Dalayna just fine.

In regards to item-making, I've found this tutorial quite helpful. It's called Complicated Item Creation but most of it is fairly easy to understand. Also, I've learned a lot of things just by checking out existing items (both original and modded ones) in DLTC.

The release date depends totally on how fast a learner I am. I've never had trouble with writing so there shouldn't be any problem there.

I'd suspect the next summer, August or September the latest. Hard to say for sure.

Yeah, deadlines don't always work. It tends to put pressure on yourself. I know I don't like that, so I never give out expected release dates for anything, really. ^_^ Looking forward to hearing those samples, too. I'm curious as to how she will sound.

For me deadlines don't usually work because when I have a couple of months to go I think that there's all the time in the world to get it done...and then it's suddenly a few days and I've done nothing at all. So, I won't say anything about a certain deadline because I'm horrible with them. It all depends on the amount of interest and time I have to put in the mod (at the moment there's no lack in interest or time, it's just that sometimes I find other things more interesting).

And thank you, Lykainon, for the link. It seems that everything is explained clearly enough for even an almost-newbie like me to understand ^^

Hey hey, here I am again...after disappearing for another month. I lost my interest in Dalayna for a while there but regained it today and have done a bit of writing, of which here are some examples. These are not full talks and there will be changes. At the moment the PC has no options in these, so his/her lines are just marked as (options)

1. This takes place after bringing back the rod to the temple of Amaunator.

Do you see now - religion, if one believes like these souls, is just slavery of another kind. These souls followed their god beyond their duty, forsaking their old lives and the peace death would've brought. They suffered because of an object: a powerful and deadly at that which would've only brought pain and suffering if it fell in the wrong hands. And what did you see when you looked upon these priests? Joy? Graciousness? Neverending loyaly to their god? No. Pain and suffering...and their god just let it happen. For a greater good, I presume. What is lost in a few souls that get trampled in the eternal stampede of good and justice?

(options)

Understand? Suffering is suffering and pain is pain even when looked upon in smaller scale. What made their pain so meaningless that their god allowed this to happen? What did they do to deserve this twisted fate? Nothing more than serve their lord. They chose and they remained here, eventually forgetting what it was that bound them to this slavery. Now, what god would have them? Any fair, any just one should...But their divinity never gave them anything but torment. Even faith has to be deserved...and this Amaunator...maybe people stopped believing in it on purpose. Faith has to be deserved, but like many other things it is just expected. Your faith should be the one thing you give without doubt, without proof that the thing you believe in even exists. It is a gift without gratitude. No cake or pie in this party, just more pain and suffering. A life spent in blind faith is no life - it is only slavery of a different kind and shackles are ones you cannot see. Gods, yours and mine, are selfish beings, answering a prayer only when it serves their best interest.

-----------------

2. This is one of the questions you can ask her as the romance or the friendship progresses. Agian, there will be more options for the PC.

PC: *Ask about the pouch Dalayna carried tied to her belt*

D: Oh this little thing? Everyone needs a memento, be it good or bad, of the lives past and heartbeats silenced.

PC: But what's in it?

D: Things I wore in a different life, every single one a touchstone for memories I have yearned to forget but need to remember. Take one, just one, and I can name it and recite the inscription within.

PC: So these are wedding bands?

D: No. They are past lives, silent embraces from those who have long since fallen quiet.

PC: But they are wedding bands.

D: If you insist calling them that.

PC: Why do you keep them with you?

D: There were times I thought I was better of without them. That I could simply let go, forget and start anew. But no...they are what I am, was and will always be. Even if I left them behind they will be with me. They are memories, bittersweet and raw to scratch. And in them...I see all of those who longed to see past my eyes in search of something else than just the skin I wear.

--------------

3. There's some spoilers in this one. Just a piece of a later LT.

D: My mind is aware that my body cannot perish but my soul cannot comprehend it. Immortality aside, after all of these years I am still afraid of the dark.

PC: That almost sounded like you classifying yourself as a human.

D: There you are wrong - there is as large a divide between me and a human than you and Irenicus.

PC: But we are, both, alive.

D: Indeed - both of you have what it takes to be human but only one truly is. What goodness might have once lurked in the twisted corridors of Irenicus' maze of a mind are long gone - not even their echoes remain to chill the backbones of the passers-by.

--------------------------

4. And somewhat spoilerish - banter with Haer'Dalis (I believe I need to play the game through again to get his dialogue right)

H: A question, my blackbird - have you ever visited the city of Sigil?

D: I have been to this city of doors, bard. My fifth husband was an actor and we drifted through great a many places.

H: But having been to there, my blackbird, would you not like to return? This lifestory of yours could provide a script to a most dascinating and memorable play ever written.

D: My life already reminds a theathrical act someone penned down only malice in their twisted heart.

H: Pain and suffering only raise the audience's levels of interest and pity, my blackbird. All living being are in one way or another fascinated by entropy and death. This tale would feed their imagination beyond the wildest possibilities. I can already see the crowds, unable to clap as they stare at the stage in awe!

D: But bard, every tale needs and ending. If mine was to be shaped into a play, how would you end my bittersweet story?

H: How easy to answer is that question! Be it tragedy or comedy, love would be found or lost in the end. In an unending tale such as yours, I would use poetic license.

D: How fitting. And how do you envision it?

H: For the answer, my blackbird, you would have to see the play.

Not enough options... I just want to be able to say, say: "Gimme that pouch or I'll stab you in the liver!"
