Yee-aaa so I'm going for a solo BGT run and I've narrowed it down to the two classes above. I'm playing as an elf, so yes, using shadowkeeper to specialise the mage/thief into mage/swashbuckler. Help me choose!

I can't decide which I want to play. Fighter/Druid would be strong in melee combat but druid spells are well...kind of rubbish, as much as I love the class concept :P Swashbuckler/Mage would be fine with those lovely arcane spells but limited to 1 attack per round (yeuch).

Which in your opinion is better to solo with, in terms of power or "fun" or both?

Swashbuckler/Mage is the most fun, and gives you both thieving skills and magic, which are important, especially as you're playing solo.

On the other hand, I think fighter/druid is less likely to die, repeatedly and painfully till about level 12.

Swashbuckler gets the offensive spin with bonus attacks, doesn´t he? However, it might be more fun with the fighter druid in the end ;-)

I'd say swashbuckler/mage. But you need to stock up a damn lot of healing potions. :P

Hmm I'd go with the Fighter/Druid for the tank power and healing. The only time I soloed, though, was with a Cavalier.

An hacked multi swash/mage will crash once you can choose HLAs, wether you have Refinements or not.

I'd go with Swashbuckler/Mage - but either shoudl be pretty difficult, and fun, too.

Fighter/Druid

Why not a Ranger/Cleric? You get most divine spells(including all druids spells).
But, the thief class is quite important, and you can get experience bonus from learning spells and disarming locks and traps.

Because I don't want to play a cleric and their weapon restrictions are lame, I prefer the druid's (plus I'd rather get my power from nonjudgemental "nature" than having to blow Talos for a Restoration). Also Fighters gain grandmastery and level up quicker etc. etc. Fighter/Druid is cool, Ranger/Cleric is for pussies!
Also, I'm playing with BGT so the experience from traps/locks/scrolls is pretty much useless. And the_bigg has kind of pissed on the swash/mage multi with that glorius news of crashes ;) Solo swashbuckler would be interesting but ultimately pointless, because I cannot imagine how you'd do the final fight of BG1 (assuming you got there). Impossible?

FMT? Can't recall if a thief can be one though.

Solo'd a F/M/T through SoA, would like to try something new. Would go for a fighter/cleric if I was playing a dwarf, but I think fighter/druid suits an elf a little more. What's up with elves not being allowed to become druids anyway, they bloody love nature :P ShadowKeeper sympathizes.

Ok I've narrowed (expanded) it down to Fighter/Druid, Darkfriend (druid mod kit) or Blade. :D
The Darkfriend is basically a standard druid with a couple of summoning spells instead of shapeshifting (I hate shapeshifting for combat purposes) but I just doubt it's competent enough to get rid of those warrior npcs, whereas a fighter/druid would probably be too competent ^_^
I'm using Rogue Rebalancing so also it would be worthwhile to actually get something out of it by playing a Rogue, i.e. Blade, which would be fun for dualwielding and magery with some combat goodness when needed.

Eish. Maybe I should go Blade to give myself more time out to weigh up fighter/druid versus druid :P

Oh, I'unno.. if you make it a fighter/cleric, it might well be a cleric of Corellon or something. :P

(Yes, I like fighter/clerics. Is why I always haul Anomen along, even if I dislike his personality.)

Oh, I like them too, if someone gives Anomen a complete appearance and personality transplant, I'd gladly take him, and I almost always take Yeslick in BG1.

Also, I use Divine Remix and there's a Corellon cleric kit there too :) But it's a bit silly because the weapon of Corellon clerics is the Longsword and you're restricted from it...at least with SCS you can let Fighter/clerics use axes, which is pretty realistic for dwarven f/c (though warhammer is too).

I'd go with Swashbuckler/Mage as well.

If I'm not mistaken, that is Saemon Havaerian's exact configuration ;) in the BG2 manual.

Swashbuckler/Mage. It's like cheating a FMT, but only splitting XP between two classes.

Stop suggesting multiclasses hacked with a kit. If the kit has a custom HLA table (as the swash does in the plain game), the game will crash to desktop every time you select an HLA (unless you're a gnome Illusionist / X).

And, if you're a solo character without being part fighter/ranger/paladin, you should be a dual-wielder and make a beeline for Belm to get decent attacks per round. Drink a couple of potions of Invisibility to get there if you can't kill the Grove trolls yet :)

Finally, Ashes of Embers -> Universal Weapons FTW.

Yeah, true.

Going nicely with the Blade; did the Nashkel mines at lvl5 and Nimbul too, was a breeze.
