I think Silmarillion would be great for a BG2 Multiplayer setting. That's also kind of one of the motivations for me to start up the project initially.

But Vanilla BG2, I tried it before - lots of reloading, I'm afraid. And its common to spend long periods discussing who does what before engaging in a single scene. In Silm though, I could see it happening while the Elves are taking the heat for you. Plus, the ability to "fail" scenarios without having to Reload means that you don't have to Reload when you lose ; just, Play On.

Well, it's the number of positives that count, not percentages. :D

Maybe if the server offered free beer for the first 50 people to vote 'yes'...

Oh yes...don't forget the 6 people who voted specifically for BG1 or BG2. In total, that's 19!

I voted yes, I would like to, but how fast a connection would you need for it? I actually doubt that mine would suffice.

I've only played multi on a LAN connection so I don't know how it runs online. I do know that some people can play first person shooters online with a 56k without too much lag if there are not too many players. BGII probably would require less internet speed than faster paced games. But that's just a guess on my part.

The only way to find out for sure is to try...or find someone who has.

I played a multiplayer BG2 and ToB game a couple of years ago with 5 people on Broadband and me on dial-up -- they had to wait on some load screens for me to catch up, but otherwise the gameplay was pretty seamless, and we hardly ever had connection problems once we'd set it all up properly and managed to connect. I was the least technical of everyone, though, so I'm pretty much incapable of being any help whatsoever, but we were all dotted across the UK and it was really good fun for the month or so it took us to get through it all :)

I'm not sure. Maybe I'd play with a couple of well-known friends, but even for me alone it's hard to finish the game now... Surely with a team it will not get finished ever. Why not go for IWD or NWN, if you wnat multiplayer> I think BG just isn't that kind of a game.

Just wondering, how long did you guys take to Load when there was a necessity to Load Game? I played with one other friend, we each took 3 party members, and while the gameplay rocked the time (and clicking) it took when a ReLoad was required was... prohibitive.

Why not go for IWD or NWN, if you want multiplayer?

As I said before, I would need someone to check for a GUID and an exe. to see if IWD would work. If you can find those by going to start/run/dxdiag, then clicking the network tab (should be in the middle of that diagnostic screen) and send it to me, then putting up a server for it can be seriously considered. While you're at it, check on IWD2 (if you have it).

Note: The method above for finding the GUID won't work in Vista.

I think BG just isn't that kind of a game.

Once the server is set up for the directplay protocol, it only takes a good programmer five minutes to add an extra game lobby. So if it bombs out, it's not like it's a lot of extra work down the drain.

Just wondering, how long did you guys take to Load when there was a necessity to Load Game?

For me, the load time wasn't much more than normal games. Then again, I only played on a LAN and not online.

The few times I did play I had not noticed any issues...If you dont have a computer that can run this game in mp well thats quite silly by todays standard!

Sounds like I should try MPing again with BG2. The last time I tried it it was before ToB was out - ie pretty long ago. I think it was 5-6 yrs ago.

No, it's not dead. I'll have to check back and see how the server is coming along. I've been a bit too preoccupied with working on my mod to really think about this lately. :D

Actually, I once tried this just by luck and found by random two other players. They had not installed mods, but as I hosted it the mods were there... they were surprised... it seems you need not have compatible installs.

Presemubly you WILL get problems if you have mods that add new graphics or areas. Item mods could just be fine... Raargh. Means we cannot do DSoSTC online.

Icewind Dale would be nice. Those games were just meant for multiplayer... But then again, slashing Sarevok is nice too ;). BG it is. Rargh.

EDIT: Did I just bump the thread?

On a weekend with a lot of spare time I'd be up for it, BG or IWD, I've played multi with my bro a bit and I've thought, If you have six players, six characters and you knew what you were doing, only having one character each would make it easier to "think on your feet" without the pause, you have to rely on the others like the cleric to heal you and we all work together and maybe learn each other's BG or IWD tactics, personally I'd think it would be fun, BG sounds great but we should also have a go at IWD maybe to start off with? It's more of a multiplayer friendly game.
My! What an interesting turn of phrase.

Sadly I cannot get Icewind Dale 1 to work on my comp but Icewind Dale 2 certainly does along with bg1 and bg2 work fine on my comp as well so I am game anytime

I've been playing the BG series since it started some nine years ago - also IWD 1&2 & PS:T - and I've never played online. It's something I'd like to have a shot at, if for no other reason thanto try for a different (and, by all accounts, 'better') experience.
