After a series of teeth-grinding frustrations with failed installations or mods that wouldn't run properly, I now know that the WeiDU mods had nothing to do with my problems. I just don't have enough RAM. It's a paltry 512MB. If you have a modern amount of memory (in your computer, not in your bricklayer's body that looks like babe), you should be fine with a heap of simultaneous mods as long as you note which ones may spoil each other if you don't install them sensibly. When I add mega-memory I want to load as many mods as possible and spend three years going from BG1 through NWN2. By then the clever modders should have completed such a mega-mod. [Emoticon with contorted face; there isn't a suitable one in the standard selection because none of these emoticons look like Brad Pitt with piles. Mind you, nor do I.] Long paragraph, hey?I would love to try as many of these as possible but think it will be asking for trouble if I run too many at the same time.

Ideally I'd have a brand spanking new machine for new games and keep old faithful for IE games, but I only have room for one machine in my teeny flat. Sigh.
Oh and Angelo was a splendid recommendation. I him. Will try Romantic Encounters too - they're coded by the same guy so shouldn't cause any issues (one hopes anyway).

Kulyok did write many of the romantic encounters in Romantic Encounters, and coded more of them, but I'm just saying there's no particular overlap between Angelo's writing and any other mod out there right now. (Edit: Beg pardon, Angelo author SisterVigilante has a co-writing credit on Xan. And although Kulyok is female, the guy named SisterVigilante is male.)
Anyway, if you like your romances to involve formerly homicidal adversaries, you'll love the Irenicus romance in Longer Road. (not a typo.)

Haha, what a brilliant summary of the mod(s)!Anyway, if you like your romances to involve formerly homicidal adversaries
My favourite BG2 mod is still Kivan, I think. I disliked Angelo just as I disliked Kelsey - good writing but not my cup of tea.

The Longer Road - I do not know enough words in English to describe the greatness of this mod. Wonderful role-playing options.
Assassination - because what's a bhaalspawn to do when all the 'save the kitten' quests are over?
Romantic Encounters - I was actually a nerd enough to draw a ten-page comic based on one of the encounters. I have wisely decided to uninstall the mod afterwards. It's still great though.
And the Luxley Family - I am patiently waiting for the ToB part *keeps looking at the watch* Yes sir, very patiently.

Aha well didn't realise Kulyok was a lady, heh heh. (I knew Sister V was a guy - I'd have been seriously worried if it wasn't, with that voice!)
I have just finished Angelo and thought it was fantastic (loved the character and quests, and really appreciated how it made sense of Sarevok's rather miserable ToB ending). It made me laugh out loud plenty, but I actually found the ending to be profoundly moving in a way I did not expect. I feel like such a puss.
I'm just trying IWD2 NPCs to give myself a break from BG for a short while, and am waiting for RE3. Also would like to try Kivan and Nathaniel, but I gather both have a couple of bugs, from reading their respective forums, which concerns me a bit.
Longer Road is also on my "must try" list but I've read it has issues with Weidu Ascension - is that the case?

You don't have to wait anymore, RE3 is up As for Kivan - hehe, I was panicking at his forum a little bit myself, as he was my first mod NPC and I was constantly worried that I was doing sth wrong. However, in the end I encountered only 2 real bugs and they were easy to deal with. The first one was in Saradush, while talking to the guy imprisoned by Kaiser, the second one - in the end of TOB, when Kivan's dialogue prevented the other's NPC's comments from happening (you know, when you're about to announce your decision). So, overall, it wasn't problematic at all.

I do!
Other mods are going to have a hell of a lot to live up to now. Hence my wariness!

I saw! Valygar romance, whoop whoop!

Those two sound quite serious to me!

Have you played and enjoyed Kivan at any time? Given your aversion to good NPCs, I'm not really all that sure you'd like him, because he's definitely one of the good guys. But then, you like Ajantis, and you don't get much more good than that. I don't know if you're going to like Gavin, either, really, though I won't blame you if he isn't for you. In BG2, he's a little darker, but he's still neutral good.

I love Kivan in BG1, he's just badass and cool. (I have not tried any BG1 mods yet...that's another on the "to do" list, largely as it'll require a full reinstall so I can add Tutu. My current version doesn't have videos installed - I have room to but the installer just wouldn't let me, for some obscure reason). Kivan always makes my BG party so I was happy to see this mod.
I'll def. keep an eye out for Kivan version 9 then, I can be patient.

Not really. In first case, you just have to type something in your console or make Kivan leave party for a while before talking to Ardic. In second case - well, you just won't see some standard Bioware comments that you propably know by heart anyway

Xan is great (I like the non-bonded path better; ToB is really sweet). And Edwin is possibly my favorite option out there, just because of the humor.
On a different note, IWD2 NPC is great too. Play as an elf.

For some meaningless flings and flirts RE is the best
For other mods I recommend: Yasraena, Beyond the law, Quest pack, Unfinished business, Cross mod banter, Assassination
Kivan mod wasn't too bad for romance option either but I'd rather unite him with his wife....

My PC is as old and farty as yours, from the sound of it. I really need to put more RAM in but am torn between doing that and actually buying a new one (mine is an Athlon 2.3 I think - it's over 3 years old anyway, though the only original parts are the processor and the hard drive - the case, motherboard, graphics and sound cards...everything including the processor fan have been replaced over the years. It's actually running more reliably now than it has in ages and it's quiet and (thanks to the nice Bulgarian IT man I hire regularly to fix it) boots up really fast.
Ideally I'd have a brand spanking new machine for new games and keep old faithful for IE games, but I only have room for one machine in my teeny flat. Sigh.
Mine is 7 year old, and is doing fine
Still modding the Mod for the Wicked... It is a big project you know... And I got sidetracked (several times) a bit... sorry.
However, as we all know, Evil never really sleeps.

Anyway, seems I have a lot of options (soon as I'm done with IWD2 - God I forgot how much I hated the Targos prologue) so thanks for all the recommendations.
