I am seriously considering redoing my system and installing Linux.  I have heard that with Wine, I can play BG, BG2, plus expansions.  I am trying to find out if anybody has a Linux box with the games on it, and does a mega-install work on it?
Also, what distros of Linux do you use (Red-Hat, Debian, GNU, Ubuntu, Kabuntu)  as well as what version of Wine?  I am asking these questions to find out which I should use.  I already have a Ubuntu 7.10 burnt onto a CDR, but are there any others that I should look into?  Please help me?

Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for they are quick to anger and you are good to eat.

Sherman - The Half-Orc Cleric/Fighter NPC for BGT(currently in dialog and scripting ALPHA phase, still due to Comp crash)

Disclaimer: I don't use Linux anymore because setting up Wine is a PITA. So, while I do still consider myself knowledgeable enough, I cannot run tests or confirm founded ideas.

Ubuntu is a safe call. this thread should have some criptic-but-useful info on porting Mac -> Linux. Also, all my mods (Refinements, tb#tweaks, tb#quest, WSM) come in Windows, Mac and Linux version. G3 is preparing a spring update of most mods, which will include Linux versions for all of them.

However, installing (or even playing) a mega-install on Linux is still IMHO outside of the doable for the non-experienced - you need to rewrite all bat scripts into sh ones, make generally sure a mod isn't using Windows-only resources somewhere in the tp2, and face no support from some modders "because I do not support anything outside my Holy Words ™".

Italian users: help test the Stivan NPC!

Author or Co-Author: WeiDU - Widescreen - Generalized Biffing - Refinements - TB#Tweaks - IWD2Tweaks - TB#Characters - Traify Tool - Some mods that I won't mention in public
Maintainer: Semi-Multi Clerics - Nalia Mod - Nvidia Fix
Code dumps: Detect custom secondary types - Stutter Investigator

If possible, send diffs, translations and other contributions using Git.

Thank you, I did check out the thread that you mentioned. I use a WinBLOWS box, not a MAC (though I wish that I had a MAC instead of this travesty of an OS). I am hoping that somehow someway, a mega-install can be made to work on a Linux box. Maybe some day. My system is low end at the moment though, and cannot handle a heavy load. P3, 1 GigHz, 384 Mb of ram, Invidia Ge-Force 6200 agp vid card, Sound Blaster Audigy card, 60 Gig HD, all in a mid Tower setup. Once I get a job and save some money, I plan to get a better puter but that is in the future.

On your machine, I wouldn't install a Mega Mods even on Windows - my lappy had an AthlonXP @2.1 Ghz and 512 Mb RAM, and even there BG2 was laggy with too big scripts and too many NPCs.

thank you. I am currently running a mega mod including TDD, SoS, CtB, DSotSC, NTotSC, SoBH, Thalentyrs upgrade, Weimers upgrades, Refinements, Tactics, BG2 Tweakpack, BG1NPC project, DevineRemix, Rogue Rebalencer, Ashes of Embers, Saeralith, Yasraena. BGT, BP, and the world map (plus a few others tossed in for good measure) and am only getting a little lag. If the lag gets too bad then I will cut back (with a fresh reinstall). But I am having a lot of fun.
