Save a copy of the AR1200.ARE file in your override in a location you can find it easily, then open Near Infinity and locate your AR1200.ARE file in the override folder. Scroll down on your screen and highlight each actor one by one and delete them from the file. Once they are all deleted, try entering the area and see if it loads. If it loads, one of the .cre files associated with the actors is corrupted. It can be a tedious process

I'll go ahead and try deleting the actors, assuming that only one of the actors is corrupted it should be only a couple hours worth of trouble to overwrite and load the area until I find it.

I'll be quite busy doing this you suggested, I'll be sure to let you guys know if it worked.

You are doing an awesome job, keep it up! Thanks a lot!

Yes, it could always be an animation too, or any number of things.

I started looking into the AR1200.ARE file in Near Infinity and deleting the actors. I deleted all of them and the area still didn't load, I restored the file to its original state and tried deleting the animations or the containers instead. No matter what I do it crashes to the desktop, it never loads beyond 3/4 of the loading bar.

I ran a full scan in Near Infinity and found some errors and "unsupported" .BIF files within AR1200.WED, amongst which there was "AR1200.BIF", it seems that this 35MB file is generated in the Baldur's Gate\cache\data folder every time I attempt to load the area. I'm not sure if this gives you any ideas, I hope it sheds some light on what I need to do.

Is there a way to"tell the game" to overlook or ignore these errors, or not use these unsupported files when loading areas? is there a chance that maybe one of you guys have these files and I can download them like I did with the AR1200.ARE?

I guess I'm too stubborn to give up on this thing.

Usually when we have mod bugs/crashes with areas we just try to substitute files in the override as that will bybass the BIFF files in the data folder. I have here the complete package of files for AR1200. The ARE again and the 2 WED, 2 TIS, MOS and BMP's.

Since this is an unusual bug for a straight BG game with patch it seems the files may have gotten corrupted at install. Maybe the disks are scratched a little.

Here is the package to extract or unzip to the override folder. This will make no more use of the BIFF file at least for this area only. If you do have more crashes with areas I would copy your save games to somewhere safe like desktop, uninstall and reinstall the game with full installations, copy saves back to the directory and then try the areas again.

Also try deleting your Bal... Gate/cache/data folder for those possibly corrupted duplicate files that extract from the BIFFs when you play. Sometimes that gets rid of CTD's but not always.

Is there any useful information in the error log (baldur.err)? [You first need to enable error logging and then reproduce the crash.]

Excelent Hoppy, just excelent!!! I downloaded these files and pasted a copy in the Override folder and it worked, the area loads and it is playable.

The area loads looking like a big colorful carpet though, the NPCs that should be there are there, and the inside of the buildings is perfect as well. I can definitely do well with just one area looking weird.

So, Thank You So Much!!!!!!!!!! (Caps are Caps of happiness)

What does the carpet look like?
If you want can you take a screen shot of the image while you are in area? Press the prt scrn key on your keyboard directly right of the F12 key. An image will be made in a folder in your Baldur's Gate folder called ScrnShot. Since you are a member you can upload things in your posts now. :coolthumb:

If you want to try taking out the .TIS files from override that may work as well. We may have just needed the WED and ARE files but I am not 100% positive.

Maybe changing your config options may clear it up and then resetting your options back after the graphics have restored is another possible solution.

It looks kind of funky, but it works, and that's all that matters right now, I can worry about the aesthetics after finishing the game.

If you're interested in the error itself the image might help you in finding out what's going on and maybe how to correct it.

Again, thank you very much. I'll continue having lots o' fun with this amazing game and with NearInfinity now that I know how to use it hehe.

That looks like the tileset issue. Try taking the AR1200.TIS that I gave you out of the override now and see if it helps. I don't think the TIS file would cause the crash but you can hang on to all the files in case you need them again when you visit the area again for the first time. I am pretty sure that we just needed a fixed WED file for your crash.

Interesting, that this is happening with vanilla BG1-ToSC only. Perhaps there are BG-ToSC versions on the market, which included this bug...
