1. Planescape: torment - that much was obvious.
2. BG series, but *modded*.
3. FF series, especially FFVII, FFIX, FFVI and FFVIII, in that order.
4. Uh-huh. Now, that was hard... But I think that either Vampire the Masquarade: Redemption (but not bloodlines!) or Majesty (an easy strategy/rpg), because I keep coming back to them (Majesty - because it is nice&easy kind of game when I just need to relax for a moment, VtM:R, because I was always a fan of the system - imho the best that was ever created, though D&D comes as a close second, for me, of course - and because Redemption has the right feel, climate, even if it lacks - heavily - in the mechanics).
5. I think Spellforce 1 (OoD + 2 expansions), but definitely not SF2, for reasons similar to what Tempest mentioned about AoW. The second game imho got rid of the *best* elements of the first one and/or exchanges them for crappy/cheesy ones. But SF 1 was fun, and I return to it from time to time. Lots of potential. Pity it got wasted. Pity there are no BG type mods for SF. Would make my day.

NOBODY expects the Spanish Inquisition!... Amongst our weaponry are such diverse elements as: fear, surprise, ruthless efficiency, an almost fanatical devotion to the Pope, and nice red uniforms - Oh damn!'

2. NWN2: Simply because it's closest thing to BG2.
3. NWN1: Due to the sheer amount of mods out there to play.
EDIT:
4. Pokemon Yellow
5. Dink Smallwood (this amature game cracked me up in so many occasions)

2. Final Fantasy VI and Final Fantasy IV- greatest. Final Fantasy. games. ever. And no, I'm not about to let any FFVII fanboys tell me otherwise.
3. Dungeon Keeper - a game where you're unequivocally, undeniably the evil villain. What can I say? It appeals to the sadistic monster in me.
4. Metroid - while it isn't all that special compared to more modern games, I remember this fondly because it was my first game.
5. Planescape: Torment - this one should require no explanation.
"I used to dislike the idea of an unfair universe. Then I got to thinking: what if we did deserve all the awful things that happened to us, and didn't deserve any of the good? Suddenly, I found myself taking comfort in the thought of an inherently hostile and unfair universe."

Yeah I think I downloaded it for free (seems to be abandonware now). I also have Lords of Magic, which was probably influenced by it. Just haven't gotten around to playing either. So many games, so little time.Ever played a game called Master of Magic?1. Civilization III (the ultimate addictive conquest game)
[P.S.: Majesty is a great game in that vein too, whoever mentioned that. Haven't played it in a while though... hmm, maybe I should dust it off. Nah, too much to do...]

Fallout 2 I would almost say the best game ever. Love it, love it!
BG
BG2
Diablo 2 Can you say Battlenet?
Bloodlines I thought after BG2 I would never enjoy playing an RPG again. What came out at the time either sucked or they were so-so. I bought Bloodlines and it blew me away.

the Myst games (except I and the lastest one mainly cause I have not played that one yet.)
Monkey Island series
Kings Quest series
Neverwinter Nights 1 (have not played 2 yet)
wow...never really realized how many game series I played till now...I just kinda listed a total of at least 10 games.
I've created over a thousand blades
Unknown to death.
Nor known to life.
Have withstood pain to create many weapons.
Yet, those hands will never hold anything.
So as i pray, "Unlimited Blade Works."--Archer from Fate/Stay Night

5. Skifree
You can tell I'm just a superexciting person, can't you?
Well actually, in no particular order...
Baldur's Gate series and Planescape: Torment - No explanation needed for these two, I'm sure!
Thief series (Dark Project, Metal Age, Deadly Shadows) - The idea of a stealth-oriented first-person shooter was novel and brilliant when I first played it back in 1998. It had the right mood and the look and the feel and the intensity to it, and a nice plotline. Creeping about blackjacking people from behind then dragging their bodies into the shadows was certainly an original twist on the usual kick-down-the-door-guns-ablazing-charge! FPS.
Final Fantasy series, especially FFVII - I can't pick out one aspect that makes it great. Everything about the game - the setting, the storyline, the characters, the gameplay - just gels together into one big ball of high fantasy epic.
Inevitably in every game there will be a character (sometimes a whole cast of characters) who annoys me to death and back, but somehow I'm still able to overlook it and enjoy the game. In the more recent titles the graphics and music are, of course, simply stunning.
Dungeon Keeper - I'm glad someone mentioned this earlier. This game doesn't have the wow factor - no groundbreaking graphics or stupendous music or anything like that, but it was just a blast to play. The twist of playing the evil villain and squashing all the goody heroes who enter your dungeon is, as Gromnir would put it, good fun!

That type of list is worth 20 times as much as the ratings given by websites that don't declare a preference for any particular game genre. It is worth 2,000 times as much as the recommedations by the clerks in computer stores who say, "Yes, if you enjoy role-playing, you will definitely love Baldur's Gate and Super Mario Brothers. Hey, do you need printer cartridges? We're having a special."

2. Descent - eight of us played LAN once a week for the best part of a year, well before the term 'lanparty' was invented
3. Monkey Island series (laugh? I laughed until milk came out of my nose)
4. KOTOR 1 - II was okay but... I'm looking forward to the release of the SLRP
5. PS:T
An honourable mention goes to Icewind Dale because it managed to get me to play it three times and I intend to have yet another go. IWD II? Played once and *maybe* I'll do it again sometime.

In no particular order :
Baldur's Gate series- meh, what can I say :3 It's the only game I ever played where I realy felt I knew (and obsess at) all the characters and places in a personal way
The Longest Journey- Great story and beautiful, beautiful atmosphere. I loved April's voice so much I downloaded her soundset for my BG pc X3
Arcanum - Fell in love with Arcanum the first time I heard the music and saw the menu. I've always loved the industrial revolution era, all the clothes and ambience, when it got partnered with magic and hacking and slashing (and old guns!) , there was no way I can refuse. Companions are pretty cute, and all the minor details in the surroundings made it all the more fun :3
Vampire the Masquerade : Bloodlines - I wasn't so much a fan of games in modern settings, especially RPGs. However, Bloodlines managed to make me feel the roleplay bit in a perfectly modern setting in a very engrossing way ^^
Icewind Dale- the first Bioware RPG I ever played The first thing that struck me about it is how beautiful it is. The music, all that snow and frozen lakes, the great tree of Kuldahar - everything felt just about right in a classical adventuring kind of way. I know it doesn't have a level of party interaction (at all?), but it is a really charming game.
Hm, as for a honorable mention, one game which I still carry fond memories of is Quest for Glory V: Dragonfire. It's the first RPG I've ever played (I think..). I don't even remember the premise of the story anymore, although I still remember there was this inn where we stay in, and everyday the menu would change from one horrible meal to another - until finally the innkeep settled for plain old macaroni and cheese, and it was delicious! . Um, heheh, I'll stop ranting now.., but I really did love that game

Thank you! The list builds slowly but with good stuff on it.Scipio, that's a really good idea :3 I often played some of the games I did because the guys in the forums were talking (or raving) about it..So that would be a very valuable list indeed ^^
And @ Yovaneth: Erk! ... I haven't been following this thread too closely, it seems! Thanks for your list, too.
