Nathanial Dialogue Problems?

I've installed the new version (V4) of Nathaniel, and his dialogue seems to jump an awful lot. I just finished speaking to Renal, (to get the thief guild quest), and he butts in as normal with the "I don't like where this is going" comment - and then he jumped straight to his first panic attack conversation - as if I'd already spoken to Avery at Trademeet...

Is this a bug or do I just have a corrupted installation?

I'm playing V4 as well, and this didn't happen in my game. I went to see Renal immediately after picking up Nathaniel.

I think it's a corrupted install then. I've just reinstalled BG2 on my new (big) SATA hard drive and so far so good. I have to say installing all my mods took longer than installing the game though!

BTW - loving the new V4 dialogue so far. Nate's coming out speech is very good - although it does seem to come out of the blue a little. But then I gather it's meant to seem like that?

Anyway - enjoying it very much so far.

One thing I was wondering - are there plans to have Nathaniel react to the G3 romantic encounters mod?

More of an issue for sex-hungry or bisexual male PCs admittedly, but still...

I got a similar problem, where he started a banter with Minsc and then flashed up the line with, "He killed Angelo". It happened three or four times, even after a reinstall.
I uninstalled the Nathaniel Content for The Luxley Family mod, (which I have installed) and the problem went away.

And remember, never leave a naked person unattended.

Aha, thank you Rianess! The crossmod content may be part of the problem. I'll have a look at it ASAP (I don't have a lot of free time at the moment, unfortunately).

Arathlan - glad to hear you're enjoying the mod so far! It would be fun to have him react to RE stuff, but we'll have to see how it goes.

I think it's very likely. In a similar vein, when I had the crossmod content for Nathaniel installed I had a problem with going to get the Luxleys.

When I entered the Bridge District, and had the usual conversation with Aegisfield, the screen jumped down to where the two guys are arguing over Bubbles and then their fight. When I walked down there, and encountered Andrei, the circle around his avatar was green, not light blue.

It's weird, because when I had Nathaniel v3 installed, Andrei was standing by a large pillar, not near the thief and the cat was nowhere to be found. Andrei's dialogue didn't kick in either, and when I click-talked him, he said 'I have enjoyed adventuring with you, etc.' or something along those lines, and then I had the choice to ask him to rejoin, go to the Copper Coronet, and so on.

When I installed Nathaniel v4, the same thing happened initially when I entered the Bridge District, with the guys and Bubbles. When I walked down there this time, Andrei was standing in the right place, with the thief and the cat, but the circle around his avatar was still green, and when I moved nearer, the same 'I have enjoyed adventuring with you...' line came up immediately without me needing to click-talk him.

Most bizarre. As before, when I uninstalled the Nathaniel cross mod content, the problems with the Luxleys also went away.

BTW - aside from these two problems, I am really enjoying both mods - they're absolutely fantastic! :)

I don't think it's crossmod - I've had the same problem and I don't have any of that installed. After talking to Delon in the Government district, Nathaniel finished with a pretty damn spoiler-y comment about Latimer. Similar things happened a couple of other times, but I don't really remember where - I screengrabbed the Delon one because it was first.

Hmm... well my reinstal included the crossmod, and so far Nathaniel hasn't jumped dialogue. I haven't tested for the stutterbug yet - it happened in the old game too - my first load was right around Anomen.

BTW - did something happen to his music? It's not playing anymore? (V4). I have the Alternative soundtrack installed, but I installed that before installing Nathanial V4.

EDIT: Music has come back at the talk where you notice his vampire bite.

On a slightly different note - I just got the Nathaniel/Jaheira banter again - the first one where he says he's sorry about Khalid. I got it earlier, and now I got it again... I did just install IEP banter, but I'm not sure that's a conflict - it shouldn't modify Nathaniel's banters...

He'll say his line then another line, most of the times it's happened to me the extra line will be from the Latimer conversation, then the conversation ends. Sometimes I'm able to talk to the character again to get the full speech, other times I get '[character] has nothing to say to you' - Tirdir's still waiting in the graveyard because Nathaniel finished the conversation early. It hasn't broken the game at all, I've been able to complete the quests without a problem, I just thought I'd put this out there. Still love the mod, as always!!

Have you tried the string fixer? (select Nathaniel and press K) If that doesn't work, I suspect that this is an issue with a corrupted install and you need to restore a clean install of BG2 (see here for instructions).
