Got Banter?

The Extended Banter component adds numerous banters between the Bioware NPCs, humorous, serious or otherwise. Your companions are people too - surely they deserve more talking time! This release includes the following banters for SoA:
Aerie/pre-test Anomen [1]
Aerie/Sir Anomen [1]
Aerie/Mazzy [8]
Aerie/Minsc [6]
Aerie/Valygar [1]
Cernd/Imoen [1]
Edwin/Viconia [5]
Imoen/Jaheira [2]
Haer'Dalis/Imoen [1]
Imoen/Viconia [3]
Jaheira/Viconia [8]
Keldorn/Valygar [2]
Korgan/Viconia [2]
Minsc/Viconia [1]

I would suggest more banters involving Cernd and Haer'Dalis. I do not know if this is already in progress, however.

The Extended Minsc/Aerie Interaction ToB component includes two banters for Aerie and Minsc in Throne of Bhaal.
The Conflict Revisions component includes conflict revisions, which allow the PC to intervene before NPC disagreements turn ugly. It revises the following conflicts:
Edwin/Keldorn
Edwin/Minsc
Edwin/Valygar
Keldorn/Viconia

How about the Korgan/Aerie conflict? Did she not leave the party if the protagonist does not respect her wishes and send Korgan away? Would that count as a "conflict", or is it mainly about conflicts involving bloodshed?

You've probably already got this covered but perhaps a few banters between characters of similar class/background.

Jaheira asking Cernd's advice at to which root/herb would best treat an embarrassing rash that she's suffering from ...

Anomen trying to engage Keldorn in gossip about other members of the Radient Heart ...

Yoshimo and Jan discussing the best place to fence their loot ...

That sort of thing.

This is most likely something I suppose you wouldn?t, or couldn?t change, but I guess Ill just suggest it anyway for the heck of it, despite the fact that it stems from something that only really bothers myself Ill wager. That and its ToB related, so I don?t know if that?s a priority. Anyway, Viconia is pretty much as standard an NPC I have. Shes always in my party, and the only romance I bother with. With that in mind, one of the things that really bothered me while romancing her in ToB were her banters with Sarevok, and to a lesser extend Haer?Dalis and perhaps even Cernd a little. It just didn?t feel right that while romancing her she should walk right over and comment on how ?intriguing? Sarevok is. Im pretty damn sure none of the other NPCs are so blatantly flirty during a romance. (Though Anomen does respond to Viconia?s flirting in SoA if I recall, but ToB romances are at a much different stage, and Im not even sure if she bantered with Anomen when I used to romance her a while ago. Plus you could get all "territorial" on Anomen).

I suppose some would consider Viconia?s ToB banters ?in character?, but I personally think the romance dialogues at that stage beg to differ.

Like I said, I understand if this isnt really considered at all, as I suppose its in built NPC banter that you might not want to bother with, or even could change (Im no modder so I only guess that you couldn?t tamper with that stuff). But that is definitely one of the points in ToB, or even Baldurs Gate altogether, that I hated. Even though Im sure it?s a pointless suggestion, and one that only bugs me, I just figured here would be the place to put it.

Raven_Song: Interesting idea - could you give us some more examples of what you're thinking? Maybe a banter sketch? There's a "rash" one already done, with Aerie and Minsc.

Phlegmatic: Hmm, it's a good idea. While I personally feel that Viconia's banters are in character, I see no reason as to why the PC wouldn't react if he romanced her. Why, even a PC who doesn't romance her might say "Get off my brother, you bitch!" That would be for later, though - banters and conflicts come first.

I understand. I thought to myself that it would have been nice to interject something into that banter as the PC, and maybe get a slightly different reaction to the whole thing, but I know its not really worth much attention. Its basically a gripe I have that is solely focused on the need of being a male PC romancing Viconia, so its a nitpick really considering this mod expands on all the NPCs banters. So I can see there are plenty of other things more deserving of attention. But thanks for hearing me out on it.

Hmmm... If I'd seen this earlier I'd have liked to make a suggestion or two.

Imoen, for instance, comes across as a pretty bleak NPC, in my opinion. Sure, she's your little sis and all, but most of the time it feels like she's an automaton under your shadow. I, for one, think she should have many more banters and interjections, so as to make you actually *want* to go rescure her as early as possible. She should comment on most quests throughout SoA, and she should have a stronger opinion about what course you take and whom you keep around. Come on, who hasn't ever heard of siblins' quarrels?

If you want me to write banters for the next version (not necessarily Imoen banters), feel more than free to drop a PM or an e-mail.

- Immy with Jaheira: reminds of past? Some nice chattin' about that what was - but will never come back.
- Some banters for Anomen - after his test fail. Anomen IMHO is one of best-written characters in books/games. Dialogues with Korgan are just cool - why you shouldn't continue that. More angry Ano! ;-)
- Anomen is trying to teach Aerie how to fight.
- Yoshimo's trying to ask about Tamoko? Jaheira probably.

Sorry I've been ill recently so haven't had much time to think about gaming ... give me a few days and I'll see what I can come up with.
