My graphics card is a gtx 470 and I am running x64 Windows7. I have tried many of the fixes on this site and I cant get any of them to work. I tried following the instructions for the windowing program and couldn't get that to work either. I am not sure if it has anything to do with windows 7.

And where's the game installed to, as you have W7, you need to install it outside the default folder("Program Files" or what ever it gets translated on your language), as the W7 protects that directory from overwriting stuff... or you could probably start the in Compatibility mode that uses the XP SP2, but that's not the optimal solution.

Andrassy's problem should be solvable with the first post regiment as long as the Operation Systems quirks are taken into account  .

Here's a fix for the screen flickering and mouse trails issues that does not require any changes to DirectDraw or other old fixes that may cause mouse trail problems. You simply run the Widescreen mod setup and set the screen size at maximum 1280 x 800 to avoid flickering, this also fixes the mouse trail problem.

I don't know if anyone is still reading this thread, but I'm having problems starting the game.

I followed all of the instructions from thunderpeels ultimate guide very carefully and when I finished installing all of the mods and tweaks and the UBs when I click on torment.exe it gives me the following error:

An Assertion failed at D:\Torment\Source\Chitin\ChVideo.cpp At
line number 4322

I don't understand because D is my optical drive and there's nothing loaded in it.

any ideas?

Erhm, could it, try deleting the cache(& temp & tempsave) folder's content in the game folder... it could be that the game has saved the old data and so get's confused by it.

Okay this is aggravating.

I installed the widescreen mod, did the changes to the ini I'm told you need to run the mod, also the ui mod, the fix patch, and nvidia fix patch thing.

It seemed to work for awhile but.... now I have these problems:

1. Casting combative spells seems to make the screen flash black for a second when the spell is cast which is very annoying, though the spell graphics DO seem to render correctly, with no mouse cursor trails.

2. Oftentimes when going into a new area that requires loading, the game will crash. It's never in the same place. It seems to be completely random. Only the act of loading a new area seems to trigger it off and on.

As I was wanting to play a mage these problems will get from annoying to aggravating VERY quickly.

Why is it that when they design newer video cards that they seem intentionally make them incompatible with older games?

It's a confounded nuisance.

If it makes any difference I have the one dvd version and I patched with the official patch before I did anything else.

:whistling: Which game ? Yes, the Planescape: Torment...

2. You did star a new game after you had installed all the mods ? As the old saves won't work so well that you can rely on it.

Nah I started a new one as it just immediately crashed when I tried to play one of the saves and I hadn't gotten that far into the game anyway.

Okay, I have tried several of these fixes for PST.

This last one might be working, I'm not sure but it's weird. The one I have tried this time is the Microsoft compatibility thing.

I told it to force direct draw emulation. Odd thing is it seems to get the mouse cursor problems, but just on the load/ save a game screen.

It gets big white flashes instead of big black ones for magic missile and whatever dak'kon's version of the same spell is... I'm not sure if it's suppose to do such a huge flash that makes it hard to see the screen so I can barely see the missiles hitting something or not though.

I tried visualization but none of it makes any sense, even downloading them is highly difficult many times.

Ok, so I'm have a problem with PS:T. Every time a spell is cast the game flips out(screen flickers, spell animations are all wonky) and for major spells, or multiple spells in quick succession, the game crashes. I'm running windows Vista 64bit with a nVidia Geforce GT 120 graphics card. I have the following mods installed: The Ultimate Fixpack, Unfinished Business, the tweak pack and this nVidia fix.

The nVidia fix helped with many of the problems I had been having on this computer (black boxes around items, walking backwards, ect.) but I have just found that it doesn't seem to fix the spell problem. Is there any way to fix this?

I fixed my flickering cursor issue in IWD2 by setting up a profile for iwd2.exe in Manage 3D Settings in NVIDIA Control Panel, and setting Vertical sync to "Use the 3D application setting". This particular setting might work for other games as well.

Just want to add that I'm using BG1+ToSC and BG2+ToB with an 8800GT. I followed the Config suggestions in the original post and achieved expected (but unsatisfying) results.

However, turning down Hardware Acceleration to the suggested level (the lower middle notch on the bar) gave perfect results in both games.

Definitely worth trying if you're having to decide between terrible perfomance or weird visual artifacts.

This worked for me too with BG1-TotSC. Might want to put this in the initial post so folks don't have to dig for it or ask boneheaded questions. I used the Hardware Acceleration one up from "None" - anything higher gives the black boxes.

Not sure how Win7 handles this, but in XP, right-click on the desktop (any empty space), click Properties, Settings, Advanced, Troubleshoot, then lower the "Hardware acceleration" bar.

What's the situation with IE games bought from Good Old Games? They advertise greater compatibility at least.

Edit: I now notice that there's been some talk of PS:T bought from GOG, but how about the rest of the IE games?

Okay, I am unsure if anybody has already stated or asked what I am about to ask. **Warning** **Warning** a big massive evil may be to you idiotic hellish wall of text follows:

Comp stats:
NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT 3310MB DirectX Features DirectDraw Acceleration: Enabled Direct3D Acceleration: Enabled AGP Texture Acceleration: Enabled
Windows Vista Ultimate(6.0, Build 6002) 64 bit
System Model: Dell XPS 630i BIOS: Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG
Processor: Intel® Core™2 Duo CPU E8400 @ 3.00GHz (2CPUs), ~3.0GHz
6140MB RAM
2424MB used, 10075MB Available (got a ton of crap on my computer recently had a trojan/virus that messed up my explorer so now I can't see my task bar I think it infected a important file that helps the explorer function properly and I deleted that infected file after my KasperSpy virus software picked it up. its often very annoying closing folders I have open or minimizing a game I am in like bad company 2 in the middle of a fire fight and should probably get that fixed soon by posting for help in a related form. I have already just got done doing something similar for the last problem I had and it grows extremely tiresome dealing with these anuses I am fixing to just buy an external hard drive and move all my important files onto it and reformat.)
DirectX 11

BG Trilogy looks interesting btw Never used tutu yet reading on page 2 somebody said it could fix the BGTotsc black box problem by converting BGtosc to BG2 graphic interface thus using the BG2 method But I haven't had a go at any of that yet and really don't feel like moving saved game files custom portrait files sound files or just starting over uninstalling bg2 with TDD and other (which are not a lot only like 3) mods because I haven't finished playing with my drow assassin and viconia But will do that in the long run if its necessary to play Baldurs Gate Totsc without black boxes around my sprites(Also Im curious if you can get extra kits classes by installing Trilogy or tutu)(random question I decided to throw in any better mods then TDD that add cool items and kits new spells to bg2 bgTrilogy or tutu If I do decide to just uninstall everything and start over using new mods and trying the T method). I currently have bg2 installed with TDD(which unfortunately I heard is a crappy mod(TDD) due to the fact the creators have little or no knowledge to forgotten realms what so ever(but at least they can mod I had a go at making a basic npc with Weidu one time and failed horribly)I used the Baldurs Gate 2 method for fixing the black box problem the bigg listed and worked like a charm. But aside from that I used the other method For baldurs gate tosc fix said by downloading the nvidia_fix and so far has not gone well. Following these instructions:

I saved a screen shot of what my directory looks like.
http://i55.tinypic.com/357nho8.jpg

Installation:

Simply place the files from this archive into the games directory. Then run nvidia_ddraw_fix.exe(cannot find this file I don't understand where is it suppose to be? Does it pop up magically am I installing this or unpacking wrong?) and select the games .exe file to patch it.
If you want to remove the patch, simply run nvidia_ddraw_fix.exe again.

So I moved the files I got from nvidia_fix.zip which were the nvidia_fix folder and setup-nvidia_fix.exe to your baldurs gate directory. I run the setup and I get the second screen shot error.
http://i51.tinypic.com/2lkzceg.jpg

Also mention something about If you use this fixer utility, don't forget to remove the application profile in the Compatibility Manager (if you're using it, remove the profile like this: start -> programs -> Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit -> Compatibility Administrator -> Installed Database -> right click and remove on the item you created) or stop using the .vbs launcher. (I am sorry but this makes no sense to me I can't find that compatibility manager start programs what what what? Microsoft Application Compatility Toolkit? Compatibility Administrator? Installed Database? right click and remove on the item you created? .vbs launcher? I am confuse. When I go under start programs I don't see any of these things I'm guessing its deeper or I am completely missing something. Sorry for this massive block of text that is probably so painful to read, but if you could help me I would really really appreciate it. I appreciate the help as it is you made my baldur's gate 2 work so much better thankyou for posting this. I remember when I could not find any information on how to get rid of the black boxes and how happy I was when I found this.

Well, your file structure is a bit different than the one the requirements say they should be, the only thing you need to do is to copy the "movies" folder from the data folder(this is my best guess... it could be elsewhere too) to the game folder, and rerun the setup-nvidia_fix.exe .

don't forget to remove the application profile in the Compatibility Manager ...

This is a note that if you use one of the methods, that you should remove the others if they are still in use...
copy the "movies" folder from the data folder(this is my best guess... it could be elsewhere too) ...
Yes I don't see them in there they most be on on a different cd? Yeah ill check it out right now and see what I can do. Hopefully I can get this to work. Thing is I don't see a movies folder inside the data folder, just see 25 .bif files. Wonder where they are hmm. Ill check the other cds
CD1~>(data)~>9.bifs/(Movies)~>MovieCD2.bif Movies.bif
CD2~>(data)~>34.bifs/(Movies)~>MovieCD2.bif Movies.bif
CD3~>(data)~>32.bifs/(Movies)~>MovieCD3.bif Movies.bif
CD4~>(data)~>36.bifs/(Movies)~>MovieCD4.bif Movies.bif
CD5~>(data)~>31.bifs/(Movies)~>MovieCD5.bif Movies.bif
CD6~>(data)~>15.bifs/(Movies)~>MovieCD6.bif Movies.bif

Is this what I'm looking for should I copy paste these to my directory or am I wrong. These are the only movie files I see on all the cd file directory. Or am I missing something, packaged differently different part of the archive or actual playable movie files. I am going to bed after this post I will be on when I wake up.
