Erm... hello. First post... here...

So, I dunno if this idea has been suggested before but is there anything for BG/BG2 that combines the thing of other game worlds crossing over to Faerun?
I'm a great fan of crossovers, though I have a feeling that some people feel like characters should stay in their own worlds.
And no, I'm not saying I want my PC to have a lovey dovey relationship with casts from Tekken, or stuff that don't really fit into the world of dead Gods and insane Gibberlings.
No love triangle with the DMC twins, melancholic romance with Ichigo (Bleach), no Keitaro miraculously appearing from Hinata-sou (Love Hina) running up walls and dodging bullets (You know what that's from), no Frank Castle or Agent 47 storming in blowing up everything in sight, stuff like that.
Well, I'm not saying they won't be interesting. Actually, I'd pay to see any of them.
It's just... I'd love to have Rin (Tenchu), or Baiken (Guilty Gear), Vincent (FFVII) Raphael (Soul Calibur), or even Haruko (FLCL) with her bass just having a go at Mellisan, having their own weapons, quests, a REALLY far-fetched yet believable reason how they found themselves arguing with Ribald or Drizzt, etc, and retaining their personailties with banters and interjections.
Not saying romances are bad, it's just it seems a bit... well... narcisstic in having Yuna (I think everybody should know her) or Eri (Metal Slug) falling head over heels for some random, powerful child of a God.

I'm just saying this... I'm not one of those people who can actually mod, just being suggestive, that's all. Though if anybody would start something like this, I would help as much as I can.

You probably won't find much interest in this idea, I'm afraid. The community, in my experience, tends to dislike breaking the fourth wall unless it's an intentionally silly mod, and a crossover like this is in extreme danger of the npc stealing the show from Charname. Such a mod would very likely be oriented around dumping said crossover character into the BG universe, but npc's are the supporting cast for Charname, not the stars.

I'd say in short that it's not a bad idea in theory, but would encounter major problems in implementation, and probably would not receive an overly enthusiastic greeting from the community. At any rate, welcome to SHS!

Your biggest problem (continuity aside) is getting such characters' abilities to actually work in the Infinity Engine. For instance, summoner Yuna would probably work quite well, but the class-changing freak from FFX-2 would not... or even if it were possible, it would not fit the D&D universe at all. Vincent using a claw (fist) and shape-changing abilities is fine, but you would have to substitute a crossbow for the gun and you can just forget about the materia. Actually making a character wield a guitar (or any other weapon that doesn't already exist in the engine) in combat... I'm not sure if it's possible at all, and making the animation for it would just be painful - certainly way more work than it'd be worth.

Of course, they would also look just like any other BG character, so they wouldn't be recognisable unless the character actually looks like a Baldur's Gate sprite to begin with (and even then, it'd change depending on the armour they wear).

Personally, I always thought BG2 needed more Dio. Maybe as a permahasted monk with Time Stop at will every X rounds...

Speaking as someone who tends to model his PCs after characters from other worlds, I've come to realize a few things about making crossovers. Granted, I like the idea and I've always wondered how someone like Kenshin Himura or Lenneth Valkyrie would fare in the Forgotten Realms, but I've realized there are some practical difficulties.

If the crossover NPC is a spellcaster, how do you adapt his world's magic system to Faerun's? Some systems are probably workable, but for others, it'd either be too hard to code or would be impossible given the nature of magic in FR. I can imagine the Draw system being feasible, but it'd probably take obscene amounts of code (I'm no modder, so I can't say).

Off-hand, from your suggestions, most of them seem workable, though. Of course, if you want any of them to actually become a mod, you're going to have to do the coding yourself. I like the idea, just that some characters are probably more feasible to code than others. But that's without taking the story and the tone into account, though I imagine taking an NPC from another D&D setting wouldn't be so bad. Ravenloft's Strahd von Zarovich or someone from Dragonlance might work.

Edit: Damn typos. I'm turning into Solar's Harper!

I see now, well sorry if it seems like I didn't think it through. The idea just came from the top of my head. I was giving Jon a second chance when I suddenly thought;
"Wouldn't it be funny if Auron was around here somewhere?".

Well, it was amusing at the time. You should've been there.

But I do see the problems, and I would feel sorry for the poor modder who tries to replicate the dress-sphere part in FF-X2. (I doubt really see the point in it. I'd choose a big party with lots of little conversations going on over a trio with a big wardrobe. Hehe, duck soup.)

Not recieving the breakage of forth walls, eh? I thought people don't mind unless the person does a pairing with the victim and their OC. Poor Sora... he's been through lots for a young teen. -_-

Lastly, it does seem a bit selfish of me asking someone to put in;
"Sephiroth vs. Bhaalspawn. The match of the... well... ever!"
Sephiroth: What the- aw, crap. Why must you destroy everything that is good? *kills Bhaalspawn*

Well, that's my question cleared up, thanks.

Hmmm. Dunno. Some of my best mod ideas have started out as classical literature themes. But there's probably considerable difference between adapting the plot of Cyrano de Bergerac to the Forgotten Realms and finding a way to work Frodo into Baldur's Gate.

:whistling:

Sorry, I could not resist.

Would now be a bad time to mention I replaced the default voice set for Sandra with Cassandra's voice set?

Or when I wanted a quick pic for Alex Macintosh I used a picture of Kilik (at the time I did not realise I was ripping both off from Soul Calibur - as much as I love the games)?

Crossovers would be tough. The problem is that many people love and know these characters so even if someone wrote a good mod, that explained why (in a great story) they were in Faerūn youw ould run into problems of people critising how they were wrriten, how much they stayed true to their character, etc...

This assumes that it was done in such a way that would prevent limelight stealing.

There was a small mod that brought Raistlin as a NPC into the game (I am still looking for a copy, btw), and it was critisied, etc.. and eventually the modder disaapeared, never expanding the mod (like the mod or not, we did loose a modder) which I think was a loss to the entire community.

With that said, if you are willing to make said mod, there will be people who download and play it. Just be prepared for negative comments.

Damn I'm late for posting. Well better late than never I suppose. ;)

Hmm, despite the lot of nay saying in the thread for the idea, I see some potential in some areas... but a lot of confusion to boot, in which case makes me a nay sayer too I suppose. :whistling:

The idea of a similar system as that damnable dress sphere thing (how many outfits does one need? ) in one of the BG games (excluding DA thankfully <_< ) may be a bit too much for the Infinity Engine to handle, let alone getting to work would be a killer for many a modder.

Crossing over the worlds... semi-workable in a logical sense (do the planes or Sigil need logic? :P ), after all there is a whole multiverse waiting to be explored, and who knows which ones lead where? :)

Either way, it has both upsides and downsides in all honesty. But an idea never hurts to be expressed, so credit to you there Person, and welcome to SHS.

Now then for a little commentary below... ^_^

Not saying romances are bad, it's just it seems a bit... well... narcisstic in having Yuna (I think everybody should know her) or Eri (Metal Slug) falling head over heels for some random, powerful child of a God.

Well, Yuna fell at first sight to the guy who proved to be slower than the village idiot *cough*Tidus*/cough* so I can't see why a Bhaalspawn wouldn't have the same luck? ^_^

Edit: Damn typos. I'm turning into Solar's Harper!
