Just curious. I've never tried this one before.

Oh, squiggly line in my eye fluid. I see you lurking there on the periphery of my vision. But when I try to look at you, you scurry away. Are you shy, squiggly line? Why only when I ignore you, do you return to the center of my eye? Oh, squiggly line, it's alright, you are forgiven.

Eh.. It's the romance where a mentally distressed person falls in love with his shrink, pretty much.

It seems that there are lots of differing opinions on this. Anomen has issues, to be sure, but I think how they are perceived can vary widely. I rather like the Anomen romance, personally, though I wish the Flirt packs had characterized him differently.

The only way you'll know if you like a romance is to play it. If it helps to know for comparison's (of our personal tastes) sake, I loved both the Kivan and Xan romances (even if Xan ticked me off unbonded...) ... Kelsey and Tsujatha, not so much. (Though I thought the end of Kelsey's was sweet.) Oh, and I also liked Laufey's Edwin romance, the writing cracked me up. If you've played Tutu, I adored Gavin's romance as well as Xan's, and Coran's was a lot of fun (haven't gotten around to playing Ajantis yet.)

Bioware standard, just the same as the girls, in other words. :P

Anomen's romance just like the others has its good thorns, and its bad ones.

The Good Side

- Interesting character development
- Good NPC for a team member (practical terms)
- When devoted to his partner, he sticks to her fiercely as is his personality.
- Alignment differences can be both friend and foe to the player.
- Aspires to please his partner in anyway he can.
- Will not force the PC into anything (ie sex with him, etc)

The Bad Side

- Arrogance shows through in many LTs, he makes up for it in apologies and such, but unfortunately his view next to the PC's is the one he listens to most in times when he isn't indecisive (first couple of LTs for example)
- His alignment can quite easily make him either more loveable (hence why it is also listed in the good side), or into an easily hateable NPC.
- Sort of self-righteous
- Some answers are tricky depending on the circumstances, he is very easy to trigger, and as such the player must sometimes push for an answer which seems unlikely to end favorably.

Experiment a little, you'll find that even if your PC's alignment (in terms of chaos or law) can still present her view on things without totally alienating him. :)

Anomen's my favourite romance, Bioware or modded. You get to see a side to him that you don't if you're not romancing him, he's quite well-rounded and he treats you chivalrously without wanting to wrap you up in cotton wool. He also has a well-done storyline where you can choose between two quite different paths, and that markedly affects the romance. And the Anomen flirtpack is very good (my favourite component - I find the options for Jaheira and Aerie rather creepy). I think its main weakness is that at certain points you're not allowed to disagree with his opinion without ending the romance - lazy writing on Bioware's part, really.

It's definitely worth a playthrough. It tends to polarise players, but it's worth trying even if you end up not liking it.

It's funny you should say that. I've always thought the land mines were pretty transparent. But everyone is different.

Generally, I agree with everything Miss Sakaki says. If you haven't played it, you should, at least once.

Time and competition sure have rehabilitated the hell out of the Anomen romance.

Anomen is an arrogant pompous ass. I endured his romance simply to see how it was.

Female players are always getting screwed over when it comes to romances. Carth in Kotor, Casavir in NWN2, Disciple in Kotor2.

*Blinks* Casavir had a romance? I thought he just propositioned the Shard-Bearer for no reason.

Anomen is one of those characters you either love or hate-there are very few people who are simply meh about him.

Aye it varies for some, its just a bit of caution though since he blows up anyway in some of his talks, his alignment more or less a result for possible breakup or continuation.

Overall the layout is fairly straight foward as you said then Berelinde, it's just the few times when the right answer turns out to be the wrong answer (particularly when involving his 2nd quest :( )

I just finished ToB while romancing Anomen yesterday.

The romance was "eh", but I liked the character development side.

disappointing in what way? i think it depends on your choices, obviously he can't be with a god :D
I ended the game with the choice to be a mortal and start anew, and he seemed touched/thankful, just as in SoA when I revived him in the temple ruins. no comment, just that they should have improved on the lovetalk/ romance plots. in SoA the romance plots started and ended too quickly.
But he seems inconfident in a way, and has negative thoughts..but he can be sweet too..
and agree with Miss Sakaki on her viewpoints, nicely expressed
:):)
Klorox what was ur ending in TOB? I m just wondering what he will say if the character choose to be a god.

Chloe wasn't bad if you don't mind a case of Mary Sue Syndrome that exceeds even Kelsey, but Anomen has always seemed to be a very polarizing romance-people either love him or hate him. I lean strongly towards the former, as Anomen is the most flat-out human of the romances available (no pun intended for unmodded BG2). He's a man, with human virtues and all too human flaws.

Well put, Tempest - I liked the romance for the fact he's an uppity twit at times, it's not plain sailing, and sometimes what seems to be the right answer is the wrong answer. Besides, maybe it's just me, but I always seem to end up falling for people who irritate the heck out of me at first - I've been going out with a boy for over a year now who used to throw paper planes at me in maths when I was 12. In that sense, it's probably the most realistic romance I've ever played.

AND he's hot and useful.
