greetings,

i have run into a problem during the installation. i followed the guide...

installed:
bg1:original saga
bg2+tob+patch
bg2 fixpack
scriptable spells
The darkest day
shadows over soubar
check the bodies
tortured souls

after that i ran BGT installation, which seems to be completed sucesfully but i noticed several "The system cannot find the file specified." messages in the last part of the installation - "Compressing game files...".

The setup-bgt.debug file has no error messages, but setup-bgtdos.debug has the ones i described above.

Should i continue with the installation or start a new one? i tried it twice from backup just before bgt install with same result

Better ask this question at BGT forum, but i don't think there is any problem.
Don't forget to use this patch for BGT1.05b

The project is a great idea. Just go with authorized mirrors. Hell, write up the darned XHTML to pop up a pre-addressed browser box. Or set the .bat installer to do it. Or, find another place to discuss this stuff, if you folks are all intent on taking other folk's work without permission and creating your own megamod. If you are going to do that, just grab the first tp2 and start combining. Then find a new site, because I don't think people are ging to be very happy about it, regardless of hosting site. Myself included.

If you were serious about this, then I would say it's time to drop the hammer. Kovarex continues to ignore our requests.

Guys,
There was a problem with BP-Balancer 0.27.
When I corrected some macros within the mod making it work for WeiDu 202, I just produced a repeating typo. Veeeery anyoing. But it's gone now

New Version 0.28 here:
http://bgtproject.me...ancer-v0.28.rar

DON'T USE any version below, you would have more than one corrupt area.

Sorry for that, I appologize :whistling:

Manduran

Thx for this, I will test the new version soon.

Hi Leonardo Watson

I'm new to all this, I reacently installed BG and BG II and their expansions. I think You are doing a wonderful job, but I fear one part of the really big job is left for me to handle by myself and that is finding all the correct download locations for the mods and download them in the correct order, and therby installing them in the correct order.

Now, the installation order seems so simple at first glimse, it even fools me into believing that now the only thing to do, is to go to the refered download locations and download the things, that are on your list.

But what faces one when clicking on the links is not anything that is easy at all, for one who just landed on shsforums a few hours ago.

I have huge problems connecting the names on ur installation order to the files that are available for download at the hompages you refer to. It just makes no sense to me at all.

These are the conditions that are fullfilled easily:

1. CONDITION
1.1. Clean install
1.2. Backup
1.3. BG2 Fixpack-v4

3 steps out of what? 200?

Finding the other files on the specified download locations seems like an endless work maneuvering the menus of the diffrent websites, trying to understand the filenames listed there; comparing them to your list etc.

Let me take an example from nr 6

6. INSTALLATION OF THE BIG BG1 MODS
6.1. Dark Side of the Sword Coast DsotSC4BGTv195

Now i went to this page trying to find the version that you refered to:
http://america.iegmc.net/

and found these files:

[ ] DSNTotSC4BGT_WeiduPatch.RAR 11-Aug-2005 05:26 308K
[ ] DSotSC4BGT-BPv160.rar 19-Jun-2005 06:28 61M
[ ] DSotSC4BGT-Weidu-172.rar 04-Dec-2005 20:24 24M
[ ] DSotSC4BGTWeidu180.rar 13-Dec-2005 16:55 24M
[ ] DSotSC4BGTv170.rar 17-Aug-2005 14:31 24M
[ ] DSotSCv181Full.RAR 27-Mar-2006 04:15 24M

Examples like this one tells me that I will never be able to play this compliation of mods, since I have no clue to which one of these files that is needed. The funny thing with all these files is that none of them isn't even comparable to the name that is pointed out on your list, I don't see a v195 anywhere here. So where is it? And if it was to be found here, were I supposed to install only that file and nonthing else, or am I to install all these files?

Call me lazy, but the sheer installation of it all mods will take hours, but FINDING all in the correct order and understanding it, will take even more time for me.

Anyways, thanks for your great efforts, but for people as unskilled and ignorant as myself, we need the exact download location for each file that is on that list, so that we can look at the list, download and install it manually, or w8 and install them all at once. Now I have to satisfy myself with the original game instead.

BG I has an anyoing graphical bug that fucks up the graphics pretty often and every time i kill an enemy, is there anything one can do about this, cus trying the graphic menus in the game hasn't helped.

Got conroe 6600
8800gts
etc.

Perhaps new graphiccards can't handle the game very well?

Regards

John

Taks your time, John, and poke around - there are answers to all this in a good read of the forums :)

(For reference, on Nvidia8800 series cards using newer drivers, the bigg has posted a set of settings that work - there is a section on Vista - poke about a bit or search the site, and you will be pleasantly suprised)

That sounds like the igi Iron Modder entry that Marvin had a character going red on the kill in his install. That's what the mod does, if that is the issue. It changes the color of the character that got the actual kill. Not permanently, just like a red glow. Does that mirror your graphic oddity, John?

Greetings denizens of SHS :)

I decided to replay through BG1 and BG2 again, and recently discovered BiG world. I'm keen on starting to install it, but I've read the instlalation .pdf and have a few questions, mainly because it's a bit unclear and has a somewhat bad case of Engrish.

What do I do with and where do I place the downloaded mods> The .pdf says put them into a folder, but I don't see how I can point the installer to a generic folder that sits anywhere on my hard drive. Do I have to place the mods in my BGII installation?

I beg forgiveness if I overlooked anything.

The PDF is the v4 version.

Thanks

Just extract them into main bg2 directory and then follow the guide for the proper installation order.

Ah, righty ho, many thanks my friend :)

I just looked around a bit more, and I think I might try SMM instead, since this will be my first Mega Mod. I'm so excited that I'll be staying up tonight (In fact, its already 1:30am in Hong Kong where I am) to install it and replay my childhood nostalgia.

The issues that people have can be worked out. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, don't delete this thread.

The folks in question are working out what to do: the only materials in contention are direct links to tools and unauthorized mirrors (which is fancy-speak for "PPG, SHS, and G3 are not happy campers about a specific set of links and usage of unauthorized mirrors, but all three modding communities are interested in supporting players and encouraging folks to do the right thing for both modders and players.")

Another way of saying it is "links to unauthorized mirrors and tools which utilize that tech are in contention. Posts and threads of information supporting players and modders are not."

Or,

"Don't worry - all three communities are watching player's backs as well as modder's backs".

Or ,

"Don't worry - be happy" :)

Hey folks!

I have opened this thread to discuss here problems and mistakes with the BiG World Project, not about unauthorized mirrors. Please keep this thread clean. If you want to continue your discussions about mirrors use this thread instead: http://www.shsforums...showtopic=30560

I'm glad to see that there arouse a great deal of interest about my project.
In the meantime it inspired some other fans to start their own projects. I said it once and I say it again: I have nothing to do with them. I wasn't involved at any time with any of these projects. BiG World Project is my baby, the inspired projects are theirs.

When someone else installed a mirror with packages of all used mods, I found this was a very good idea and I created a tool to unpack the files full automated. This would have done getting the mods very easily. In about two and a half hours all the mods were downloaded and unpacked on your HD ready to use.

A few modders however don't think players should get the mods in such an easy way. They want you waste your time searching all the mods yourself. This was already discussed detailed in the thread above. I cannot understand these modders, but I respected their wish. So my ready to use unpacker tool was never published, no one never got this tool. Some coders are working on a new solution for weeks, which uses the links to the mods on the authorized mirrors. I don't know, whether this would ever work.

So please, you players, don't complain to me, that there is no easy way to download the mods, it's the modders wish that you have big troubles to get them.

And please, you staff members, don't punish me for things I have not done.

Leonardo Spellpack has been updated to beta 4 but has many issues during installation.
There is a modified version of Setup-SpellPackB4.tp2 that solves these issues in case you want to include it in BWProject fixed files until a new version is out.

There's been a lot of "woe is us, boo to the mean modders" hair-tugging lately. Frankly, I suspect you all understand this full well but are stinging over not getting away with it, but I'll play along.

However clever and noble your efforts to help people install The Darkest Day and Shadows Over Soubar are, they don't give you the right to intermediate yourself between mod creators and players. Beyond the straightforward "it's our IP and we will distribute it how we see fit, and only how we see fit" argument, which you seem not to understand every time we make it, there is a reason sites like PPG, G3, and Studios exist.

We wish to meet our players, to invite them to participate on our forums, to explore our sites and discover other mods, to read our modding tutorials and our Alassa fanfics and so forth. I accept that it's only a minority of players who wish to do all of these things, but most will do at least one of them. Your end-run around our chosen distribution method potentially robs us of that chance, and I for one don't appreciate that one bit.
