I made these kinda randomly while looking through celebrity photos. I'd see a photo I liked, cut it, and edit it to be a bit baldurised, though I have no doubt they'll still look kinda different because of how photo-realistic they still are. I can't seem to get that painted look down without actually painting over it. Which looks terrible unless you're actually good at that kind of thing.

There just aren't enough smiling portraits anyway. So here's four of them. And yes, I did just copy the armour and robes off of BG2 portraits. @_@;;

1. I couldn't get rid of the glow around her hair without erasing too much. She also looks the most photo-like, maybe because her eyes are the only ones I didn't completely redraw.
2. Hair is too blurred, her face looks a bit odd. She could probably go with a shirt under that armour.
3. Tried as I might, I couldn't get the robe to go around her shoulders and still look natural. Imagine she's taking it off, I suppose.
4. I just want to hug her. Her hair is a bit messed up.

So yeah. They're kind of...meh, but it was worth a shot, right? ;)

Aw, nice! The last two look the most BG-style-ish, I'd say. I really like the last one in particular - she looks like she has an attitude.

Thanks!

The last one reminds me of a young Imoen with brown hair, actually.

I'm throwing my vote for the last two, with the first following just behind.

But they're all nice, and were I to use female portraits more often I would definitely have to try for one of these.

I'll see what I can do about making the portrait. Do you have any specifications? Hair/eye colour changes, robe colour, etc?

Very nice! For the first portrait's hair glow... if you have it saved in layers, you could go over the outside edge of the hair with a burn brush. Fiddle with the hardness and opacity settings until you like what you see.

When I did my portraits, I didn't do a lot of skin repainting, just in certain areas. Try messing around with different filters. I used a series of different sharpening filters interspersed with "painting" session with the smudge brush.

I personally think that photorealistic portraits show up better in game, so it's good to see more choices along those lines! :cheers:

Thanks for the tips. A lot of artists look down on the smudge brush, but it's seriously my best friend of PSP7. I tend to overuse it a bit, but it's a bit better than my older tactic of using the 'edge-preserving smooth' tool x5.

:devil: Whatever gets the job done, I say! The smudge brush should not be looked down upon, imo. You need to use it properly not to distort the images. When I started doing portraits for my own games, I used the Edge Preserving Smooth filter a lot. I liked having the control that the smudge brush gave me, though. You can give someone an awesome nose-job with it! :whistling:

Oh, I'm going to be a real meanie here, I just know it. Apart from scale issues between the armor and the heads, all but the third kind of look too photographic to be BG. I wouldn't have a problem with it if the whole image was like that, but when it's just the face that looks like a photograph and the armor/background looks painted, it's a bit more visible.

Sorry for being a grouch.

I do like the third one, though.

That didn't even sound grouchy. But yeah, I already pointed out how photographic they looked. x_x;;

Oops! So you did! Sorry!

I skipped over the text and jumped right to the pictures. :blush:

Ah, the good old Jasc PSP before Corel bought it and turned it into bloatware. The best way to get rid of that "glow" around an outline is to modify the selection and do an inside feather on it of a pixel or two before pasting it on your background. Of course, if you've already merged layers, it's probably too late for that, so the smudge tool may be your best bet.

Nice work, btw. :cheers:

When you compare these pictures with 80% of the posts in the layers of reality, they look good. You shouldn't be so negative about your work. Honestly they remind me a little of some older Herd pictures(which is a true compliment.Herd is an amazing artist.) I hope you continue to develop your skill. I am sure I will be flamed for this comment, I just feel we should be supportive of new talent which has skill,instead of always praising art which is completely unusable for any game. I recommend is you should check out the tutorials Plasmocat wrote. It would really benefit you at this stage of your art. You should keep trying to work of the hair of the 4th picture. I am sure many modders would love to use it.

@ leahnkain;; I think I may find the original picture and work on the hair from there, then incorporate it into the portrait. And I'll probably redo the first one. Thanks for the support. =)

@ Miloch;; Even my school had better PSP than I did (10) and I couldn't use it, just like I can't use photoshop, because it felt too crowded and had so many things I didn't need. 7 is perfect, and I got it for free.
