Feralan is the internal name of the Archer kit.

You know, I just read that very illumination about 3 minutes ago. Who'd have thunk it.

My mistake. Please carry on.

Just tried it with his stalker alternate .cre-same error. Would it kill Weidu to mention why there was an error loading the file?

Okay, I went back into T1Dar.cre, and noticed his General Script and Default Script were both at "None". I set both to T1Dar, but that didn't seem to work when I tried installing again. His Enemy-Ally variable is set to PC-2. Maybe that's the issue?

For Enemy-Ally, find Neutral 128 and update value, so that your NPC will have a blue circle when you meet them.

From Ace's wonderful tutorial that I find infinitely helpful for my random trysts into basic NPC creation.

EDIT: So I would think that might be the problem yes.(Afterall PC-2 means a party member and then that would mean Darian starts in the party as a second PC. Erm. Yeah. Anyways hope that helps.

Score one for Kellen. Still won't compile the .cre file-says there's an error still, but I did notice this line in the Debug file this time around:

ERROR: Unix.Unix_error(20, "stat", "Darian\\Creatures\\T1Dar.cre")

Does that mean anything?

Will do, once I'm back from class (which won't be for a while-I'm supposed to be paying attention to this computer science lecture at the moment, but the professor is useless ^_^)

I think I know what's going on with the CRE. Last night was booked, but tonight is a modding night.

Do me a favor: at 6PM EST, ZIP or RAR up what you've got at that point, and shoot it to me at the usual email address. I'll see if I can work over the CRE and will spend one hour getting any other parsing errors cleaned up.

It may have been a modding night for you, but campus internet crashed at around 2 PM yesterday and didn't come back up until 5 AM this morning according to the campus newspaper. Shooting the cre off to you and Kellen now.

Your CRE still has the "exportable" flag checked, but that won't cause the crash. I did note that you have some sort of spell or innate effect on the creature. It is possible that it either isn't allowed for that creature type, that there is something wrong with the effect, or that it is somehow corrupt.

Didn't notice any odd spells or innate effects-I tried using Shadowkeeper to give Darian the ability to use detect evil, protection from evil, and draw upon holy might as special abilities, due to his paladin-like nature, and it worked just fine when I tested it in-game.

Detect evil, DUM, and protection from evil *are* special effects. Did you make up the CRE with these effects in place?

I may have-I tried using Shadowkeeper to give Darian's base .chr those abilities as special abilities he could use via the star menu, and it seemed to work fine in-game. Should I remove them and see what happens?

Yes.

Though to tell the truth, it might be better to start over using a base character that you had not modified. Also, you should definitely either start your character off in Tutu, where the Bhaalspawn abilities are stripped already, as Player2 in a multiplayer game or in tutorial mode.

Will do this evening after class. Confession: I spent my afternoon playing Halo 3 till the end. Don't blame me-I'm a college-age male student. :)

Heh. OK.

By the way, should you decide to go ahead and add those innates later, you should know that adding innates to a CRE is no casual endeavor. You can't do it like you would for your own PC. The effects have to be handled a certain way, and I don't know how to do it myself. My advice would be to talk to someone with a bit more creature modification experience than me.

Are you really sure you want those innates to begin with? You'd be loosing an NPC on the game that is more powerful than the PC. You see, a PC elven archer can't do that stuff. A good-aligned PC has one DUM, two cure lights and maybe a pair of slow poisons, but that is nothing like having that and evil detection/protection on tap.

The extra abilities were more for flavor, since Darian is really more of a paladin than a ranger-I picked his class based on the concept in my head. I have no problem getting rid of DUHM, but I'd like to keep Protection from Evil and Detect Evil-note that Mazzy has several extra abilities that a player halfling fighter can't get, due to her paladin-esque nature.

I don't mind Darian being without them for alpha testing, but I would like for them to make it in for his formal release.

You might opt to bestow the detect evil/protection from evil via an item, should you opt to go that way. It's easier than CRE modification, at least to me. If you insisted on it, it could be undroppable, but it would be cooler to have them on an item that the PC could remove if he felt it was too cheesy. For example, you could go ahead and make the item useable only by Darian, set up with his attributes, abilities, whatever, and have it be movable. The item would have 1x/day charges. If the player wanted it, he could equip Darian with it, but if he felt it was over the top, he could abstain from doing so.

Edit: things that give an NPC powers over and above the PC aren't "flavor" items. Gavin's ring is a flavor item. It gives him a -4 penalty to hit spiders, the same penalty he'd have if they were invisible. If it gave him an extra spell/level it would be a "power" item, and cheesy. The game already has one ring of holiness. If the player wanted him to have it, he could give it to him.

Detect Evil and Protection from Evil are hardly awe-inspiring abilities, though DUHM is, I admit, perhaps a little cheesy. But my inspiration for doing something like this was Mazzy, who gets Remove/Resist Fear as an extra innate ability, and I believe she gets a few others as well-it's been a long time since I've had Mazzy in my party.
