At the moment I would be delighted if a KotOR III was released or even announced, the delay has been enormous, but what I would mostly like is LucasArts to get off their backsides and announce whether there will be a sequel or not. They have done nothing to confirm the ever persistent, journalistic rumors however they haven't done anything to quell them either. It is tiring to watch them be so passive, I wouldn't be surprised if George Lucas had a camera in all of our houses and enjoyed watching us squirm at the lack of news. All they have done for the past few years is release conflicting information. I enjoyed both of the previous games (even if KotOR II was rushed) but to be honest I would no longer care if there wasn't one. I want one but if they announced that they would be discontinuing the series I would be happy.

This is obviously not because I don't want one, I know many people who desire a sequel, but the lack of anything solid is infuriating. If they would only berate the false rumors all would be well in the world. For example IGN has been predicting for the past fews years that it would be out "the next year" but it seems that it wasn't out in 2006, 2007 and I doubt it will be with us by 2008. Some people are even predicting that it will be RELEASED by Christmas, well is it just me or is that conclusion completely and utterly stupid. The most solid piece of evidence of this year was when a corporate said that LucasArts would not leave the Battlefront and KotOR franchises behind. This, of course, is hardly evidence of one in the making and it could have simply been examples of franchises that were successful, and which they wish to replicate, not continue.

LA are really irritating me at how little they are doing to quell/confirm rumors and believe me there are a lot. A simply "kotor 3, kotor 3 news" search on google retrieves... well... dozens of predictions that have been created in the past 3 months!

I just beg of LucasArt to do something and gaming sites to stop getting gamers hopes up. It is ridiculous, nearly 3 years of predictions and there is not hide nor tail of it. At least announce something about it.

Sorry if I am ranting like an old man in the corner but I needed to get this off my chest. Thank you for reading. :)

I couldn't agree with you more Clucky, I have posted a few rants of my own in the past several months of my displeasement with Lucas and the next KotOR project (you can find the rants in the various boards here). The only thing we can really do as KotOR fans is simply be content as LucasArts twidle their thumbs and waste their time on other 'unessessary' Star Wars games...like The Force Unleashed <_< I bet if they did a poll the entire fanbase would want another KotOR game over this, maybe even over another Battlefront game.

One thing I can tell you is Lucas only does two major gaming projects a year, they've yet to announce next years but many are speculating it will be Battlefront III and KotOR III. And yes it will take at the very least a year or so to complete so even if they started early next year (hiring a company and such) it wouldn't be out until somtime in 2009, even then I sometimes wonder <_<

I think one of the reasons Lucas is sort of ignoring this huge franchise is the fact it's so daunting of a task to make a KotOR game and they don't wanna spend all that effort and time hacking out the story for the third game then putting together all the pieces to make it happen, they want to try other projects and see what else they can do. Which is stupid really...if a franchise is working this good for you why risk taking all this time losing your fanbase. I think it will be made one day (George Lucas has made that rather clear - KotOR=$$$ for his vast empire) He could careless about the games only the $$$ they bring in for him. So whether it's next year, 2009, or hell even 2010 I believe it'll be made :whistling: But you are right, by now they could of made a fourth KotOR installment of the series.

In my opinion the next game will end in traditional Star Wars three story saga fashion, with all the loose ends involving Revan tied up and the story in this time 4,000 years B.B.Y. will end. I'm smelling an ending duel between the Exile and Revan...to make or break the galaxy. - But that's simply my opinion...again, you can catch my opinions of the third game on the other boards.

Here's to KotOR III in 2008/2009

Thanks for the support anonymous. I had already done as much research as I could on the subject of KoTOR III and found the information from an exec that
stated that the company only does two major projects a year. Now I hope it is both battlefront and KotOR III next year as they are both, in my opinion, the best Star Wars franchises about. However concerning LAs restructuring and committing to two major projects a year... What a load of balls, why should they. Wouldn't it be more sensible to put people out of their misery and debunk rumours on a Kotor III, they have done nothing to quell rumors and it is this which really makes me angry. They could at least announce plans of doing such a thing instead of making cryptic comments through several scatted interviews. I think we can safely say that Bioware will not be producing the third as they seem not to be interestedi n the franchise anymore, can't blame them with LA as the overseers.

It is good to see another who agrees with me and is sick and tired of waiting for a mere announcement and being fed on rumours that are unofficial and pointless. I also think The Force Unleashed will be an interesting game but nowhere near as intriguing as KotOR. Oh well we all know that everything SW comes in threes. :)

But there might be a reason why there has not been any activity. Namelly the restoration project. If, and when it is fully done, LA can see how much true intress there still is for the game. As I am quite sure they will be wacthing those numbers.

I very much doubt that. LA will show no interest in the restoration project, at least that is what I have concluded. If they are watching those numbers then I will rejoice, if it comes to a KotOR III I will rejoice... I love the project but I see no reason why it should have bearing on KotOR III. Believe me this is coming from a true KotOr fan. When the second was released, on the very day, I went to purchase my copy and the strategy guide from my local GAME store. I managed to grasp the last copy in around a 10 mile radius or so I was told. The clerk said that he had been getting calls from all over my area seeing ift hey had any copies left. ;)

That wast he day... That just proves that KotOR is known and loved.

There is plenty interest in the Kotor era games. Look at all of the posting that still happens at Bioware's K1 forums and Obsidian's K2 forums.

But the longer LA takes to make a decision, they'll start to lose the fanbase.

It's no use for them to say, "we won't do any more KotOR games" because that will close one door for Lucas Arts. They don't have time or resources or interests to do it now, so they won't say anything just in case they at some point do want to make it. I say waiting for the sequel is rather useless until they miraculously actually announce it - until then it is best to act as if there is no sequel coming. Which is the case, actually, for now.

Of course Gabrielle is right - if Lucas Arts will make the sequel, they shouldn't wait too long anymore. The Star Wars films are all made, and it's already a couple of years since KotOR2. The masses will eventually forget, and the fans will get (even more) frustrated.

Well I gotta say if we don't hear anything about it next year I'll be surprised, they should just hire more people and assemble a team if they can't figure out what they want to do with it yet...or hand it over to Obsidian and have them come up with the story for KotOR III...do something instead of sitting on their hands.

After The Force Unleashed is completed I have faith we'll see something on it, at the very least a press release saying their beginning work on it, regardless it's been far too long...we should of at least seen development by now but there's nothing <_< And we're heading into Year 4 of inactivity here, at least us Xbox users.

I'm probably one of the few willing to wait it out but I really hope we see it on the horizon soon   :crying:

The thing with KOTOR is that there's actually noone good to make a 3rd installment. Obsidian is working on Aliens RPG, and is still patching NWN2  Bioware has Mass Effect and Dragon Age. And LucasArts ,huh, they didnt even allow Obsidian to release the cut content by patches! What we can do is forget about KOTOR III for a while, to stay healthy ;p. Just as Ilmatar spoke, they won't release it anytime soon.

In my not so humble opinion they`re more obsessed with having Bioware work on a Star Wars MMO cause it`s gonna bring a LOT more cash.

...A disturbing fact of reality. :(

As for Bioware... well, let's just say EA's reputation wouldn't exactly do them justice in the near future, but that debate has already been made in the Rec Room so I won't drag it here. :)

(Originally posted in the Chris Avellone interview board)

I feel this belongs here too-

I gotta say the future of this franchise looks pretty bleak right now, with LucasArts not interested in making another game (at least at the moment or even in the foreseable future) and Obsidian will and has obviously moved on from the franchise (much like Bioware has). Forget the horizon, KotOR III isn't even on the radar screen...

The only hope I have is after The Force Unleashed is done, then maybe in 09 they'll sit down and start taking about it instead of blantantly ignoring this proven winner of a franchise. Because let's face it, by now if they wanted to a fourth game could've been released.

I (like all of you I'm sure) am just tired of the rumors, the false hopes, the dodged questions, the maybes, the what if's, the we don't know yet, everything that by now is starting to piss the fans off (or at least myself)...either come right out and say 'Yes, we are making a third game' or kill all these bloody rumors and simply say 'No, were not'.

All we get is 'We don't know yet' or mixed messages like 'KotOR will not be left behind'...well then where the hell is it?

Seriously, next year LucasArts needs to pull their thumbs out of their ass and start work on this neglected and long overdue third game...time is no longer an excuse for them. They have the tools to put it together, now its time they do so.

Thanks for listening to the rant, Anonymous

Found this on another board:

KOTOR 3 Announcement to be made at Celebration IV....

"We're going to have a big presence from LucasArts. And we'll have some, there will be two game announcements plus we'll see some really cool stuff from The Force Unleashed which is the next-gen game that will be out next year and the historical look at Star Wars games from LucasArts so that's going to be great." -Steve Sansweet - Lucasfilm's Director of Content Management

Inside sources close to the organizing of the event say that the announcement will be made on May 24th and will be immediately followed by a one minute trailer of KOTOR 3. The announcement will be Officially made to Starwars fan club and Hyperspace members on the first day of Celebration IV at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Battlefront III is also expected to be announced on May 24th.

Looks promising, but I wouldn't get my hopes up for KotOR III...we'd of heard something, at the very least rumors. But there's been nothing, there likely thinking about the rumored online game with Bioware and sequel to Star Wars: Battlegrounds that's been well hidden. Eh, I guess we can hope...here's to next Saturday
